I see various debates over winning vs optimizing draft position. Here’s a little nugget for the win and worry about draft position later crowd.

Do you think it’s merely coincidence that our three time SB winning QB was drafted #1 overall and we drafted at the very top of the draft for multiple years in a row? 92, 93 and 95 SBs were a direct result of drafting at the top of the draft.

Almost 30 years later Jerry insists on drafting in the middle since then to “remain relevant” and we have zilch to show for it. Do you think that is merely coincidence too?

How bout this FO waiting over 30 years between taking a DT in the first round also.....drafting malpractice .

They did it twice just during Jimmy Johnsons leadership and waited another quarter century to do it again

This little nugget has been prepped, deep fried and re-served repeatedly over the years, especially during regular seasons when Dallas was running a deficit in the win column. Here's another nugget that is discussed far less often:

Jerry Jones has demonstrated not placing much emphasis on the quarterback position unless: a) a decent quarterback falls in his lap; and b) he becomes enamored with said quarterback. Otherwise, Jones has never moved 'heaven and earth' in the draft to secure a high first round quarterback. Likewise, Jones has never tried to do the same in acquiring a seasoned, top tier veteran quarterback through free agency.

Jones has a history of being far more aggressively proactive at other positions in the draft and free agency. Why is that?

Yes. A losing record pushes a team towards or atop the draft rotation. Yes. It has not happened often enough for Dallas to capitalize upon. Will Dallas capitalize upon a losing record with Jones making the final decisions on which college players can accomplish that objective? This is an ignored question because some fans only account for what they want to happen, while ignoring what Jones has shown he has done as GM for 30 years.

We should revisit this topic after next year's draft. Gauge the actual picks taken based upon the draft order dictated by this season's final record--especially if the losses continue to mount the rest of the way.

The sheer amount of draft picks is what allowed us to draft great players, not a few top of the line draft picks.

Our lack of success started with Free Agency. We have only won one SB since FA started and that was with the team that was created prior to the SB.

With the advent of FA, we have been unable to achieve success because our GM has low success rate on FA. Combined with being un willing to draft quality players because of his own hubris and image (Ellis over Moss, Ekuban, etc) we have become what we are now. A team that has a handful of star players that can never find full success because we don't have the depth and quality players in the less glamorous positions.

Jerry cares about looking great, not being great. And one day, yall will figure out that the problem is Jerry, and stop watching, stop going to the games, stop buying gear, and he'll maybe finally realize the gig is up and go back to drilling oil. But you wont, and he won't.

GM Jethro can't win and does not know how to lose. What a great position to be in. Drafting 17th and not participating in FA, should help us make a deep run next year.

I mean it has to work sooner or later right?

I don't WANT to lose now. I want us to win out, scrape a wildcard at 10-7 then win 4 consecutive playoff games and lift sb number 6.

I just know that is not remotely realistic but I don't and never will want us to lose.
You are made to be a player! Manager not so much.

I think we have no control over any of it, so it's pointless getting upset at wins. If we had a choice the vast majority were ready to lose out. Once they beat Washington and the schedule softened we knew the tank was over. From there you may as well enjoy winning a couple more weeks. Most everyone knows how unlikely it results in anything meaningful.

Lance was a top 3 pick....whatndidnhe deliver....would an attorney sacrifice a clients freedom to, maybe, win a verdict in the future? Losers wanna lose...

Tanking really helped Landry keep his job... he lost so that Jimmy could win? Thanks, Coach Landry. :lmao: :muttley:

The easier part of the schedule is definitely here however beating the skins wasn't an easy game on paper.

Giants, Bengals and Panthers should supply us with the fools gold we love here.,lol.
It will be fun to watch.
