I see various debates over winning vs optimizing draft position. Here’s a little nugget for the win and worry about draft position later crowd.

Do you think it’s merely coincidence that our three time SB winning QB was drafted #1 overall and we drafted at the very top of the draft for multiple years in a row? 92, 93 and 95 SBs were a direct result of drafting at the top of the draft.

Almost 30 years later Jerry insists on drafting in the middle since then to “remain relevant” and we have zilch to show for it. Do you think that is merely coincidence too?
There's multiple ways to build a team. How many times did the Patriots draft at the top of the draft right before and during their run? What about the Chiefs? I get the philosophy investing in a QB earlier in the draft, but having high draft picks in a tank scenario doesn't always yield the results you hope for. Ask the Jets, Bears, and Panthers fans how the tanks have been going.

Not gonna lie, if we beat the Bengals I'll be looking forward to the Panthers game for sure, and if we win again I'll probably be a little too excited for Tampa.

If nothing else it'll be some fun in a season I wasn't enjoying. I mean as it is now I'm already way more interested to see the Bengals game than I expected to be. I have to thank WINNING for that.
What's real interesting is Dallas should get stronger as the other teams get weaker.

Yes and no.
For me it’s no. You can come up with a great player later in the first round. Go research the top 10 and see how many players went bust or became just average players. Our last top 10 pick went bust.

You're rewarded for being the very best, and rewarded for being the very worst. As long as that continues, it will be about both.
There’s no reward for being the very worst. The top pick in the draft won’t turn you around if you’re that bad, even if you draft a great player.

Football is about winning games and trying to make the playoffs, not losing to improve your draft position.

Not one mention of winning the Super Bowl. Wonder what Tom Brady and Vince Lombardi would say to what the point of playing in the NFL is to them if given truth serum. I would bet my entire fortune they would mention the Super Bowl as part of the point. Making the playoffs is the appetizer to the main course. Always was-always will be.

Drafting repeatedly in the top 5-10 picks has turned around plenty of franchises. Detroit rode several of those seasons to build their lines of scrimmage, and now looks like one of the top 4 teams in the league
