This is often a measurement for a HC’s success.

Are we in a better place now in 2025 than when McCarthy took over in 2020 ?

Im not sure we can argue that. We probably were in a better place during those 12 win seasons but now .. IDK.

Your thoughts …

Greg, my answer is we are in the same position as we were when the Clapper left. We have an old, arrogant fool running everything and refusing to change. Until THAT changes we are perpetually the same.
So it hasn’t really mattered whether we had an inexperienced and unqualified puppet versus a proven Super Bowl winning HC. Results are similar.

I somehow felt better being frustrated and disappointed with an inexperienced and unproven puppet than a proven SB winning HC. Lol

Thats how I see it. Until JJ is no longer the shadow in every Cowboys decision, we will be completely dependent on Lady Luck and the hopes that Will McClay provides JJ with some good choices in the draft.

On that subject Will McClay is essentially a retail store suit salesman. He shows his customer (JJ) a variety of suits but the customer makes the final choice on what to buy. McClay is the highest paid scout in the NFL.

Well, let’s just hope this is the season with Jerry does change, and the coach takes charge. I mean, we can hope right

In essence Whirl, we are hoping for a miracle.

We can only hope the last three decades of evidence on Jerry’s inabilities as a GM will somehow be painted over with the greatest amount of luck and good fortune ever seen in sports. That’s what our hopes are pinned on IMO until the Jerry era mercifully ends

I would say we were better off when Clapper left. At least I had some real hope. And MM seemed like that guy they told us about. Proven SB winner and QB whisperer.

Still pretty young (and at that time promising) personell, the hope of some fresh air with the worst possible coach ever being gone and the reality of this team doing practically nothing in free agancy for the next 4 years wasn't known back then.

And 25 years of mediocrity somehow sounded alot less horrible than "it's been three decades now" sounds.

We're in the same place, we're wasting these players talents!!!!!!
In the last 30 years, think of the Hall of Famers talents we’ve wasted. The last half of Larry Allen and Darren Woodson’s careers; Demarcus Ware, Jason Witten and Zack Martin‘s careers. And probably Micah Parson’s career too.

Woody and LA won rings when they were pups but the rest of their time was wasted. Jason Witten had two WC playoff wins here and in 8 playoff games had 1 TD. Zack Martin was a part of 3 WC wins. Demarcus Ware saw a whopping one playoff win in his time here before winning a ring in Denver.

What a waste.

did around the same Garrett did in less time and without all those abysmal 8-8 seasons
Garrett got blessed with the best oline in football half his time here and Romo changing his playcalling to actually move down the field.

Big Mike has also never iced his own kicker here at least

In the end is doesnt matter even if we had the best coach ever cause of whos in charge of this team.

I just read that the reason why McCarthy didn’t want. The job was because Jerry was gonna force Jason Whitten on him as a replacement project head coach. Not sure if that’s true that’s why I’m not posting it.
but a prime example of what we’re talking about. Micromanaging.

Better place - closer to Jerry being gone.

Worse place - wasted 5 years forever.

Same place - still stuck with #4.
The whole thing is a dilemma
I think number four, is one hit in the hip away from ending his career, I’m thinking the same way as Romo went , Prescott going history was going to repeat
