Report: Pats took less to trade Milton to the Cowboys out of respect

I certainly support the Milton trade, I just find it amusing we could be so down on sending a day 3 pick for Lance, but so high on the Milton move which was essentially based on a single game. Different moves and players yes, but both were day 3 picks for QBs that were 1 and 2 years into their NFL careers.
Not to mention Trey Lance....24 years old. Joe Milton....25 years old. It is kinda crazy to me how fans are so high on one and down on the other.

I like Milton’s upside for sure, but he is going to have to play at some point soon to develop and what if Prescott doesn’t get hurt? This isn’t Michael Penix.

Ah maybe that’s it….Jerry has bought himself a QB controversy unless Dak plays much better.

He gave up more for Lance, so….

Maybe the longer term plan is to talk Dak into accepting a trade.
If Dak plays poorly, that trade becomes tougher. Besides that, I think we got Dak for 3 more years.

The Cowboys traded their 5th round pick for the Patriots 6th round pick last season.

Other teams were offering more?

If Lak gets hurt again, Milton will get his chance.
I'd bet that he starts several games because Lak is going to miss some.

This kid chose the Cowboys over, Steelers, Giants, Eagles, and Raiders........ can't blame him.

Sounds like his agent is fudging his bet that he has a better chance for a starting job behind Dak.
* compete with Dak within 2-3 years ( Dak's contract becomes less restrictive)
* No chance behind Hurts with Eagles
* Giants and Steelers probably would have been similar to Pats, playing behind a young franchise QB.
* Raiders are in the process of extending Geno few more years.

That plus he grew up a Cowboy fan and family is one too

It is pretty smart, Dallas usually has a top 15 offense, Dak has had issues staying healthy and is getting older.

Plus his mom is a Cowboys fan

Was thinking the same thing. That can’t be the reason; probably because he’s a Florida kid and Dallas is the only warm weather team on that list, AND the only indoor team
That’s not why. His family are all cowboy fans and so was he growing up.

Sometimes it’s just what they say it is.

Isn't this kinda like Joe Milton publicly disrespecting Dak Prescott by saying he is more certain his best future is in Dallas..? I mean, the Giants and Steelers HAVE NOT drafted their franchise quarterbacks. Whoever they pick is a complete unknown for both teams.

He has already decided he has zero chance of competing with question marks for those teams. Plus, Geno Smith has not been labeled as a 'dependable' starter until Seattle backed him. Yet, Milton does not wish to compete with a veteran quarterback, whom the Raiders are gambling on via a trade instead of through the draft?

I can understand about him avoiding Philadelphia and Jalen Hurts. No one is unseating a defending starting Super Bowl champion quarterback. Should he see Dallas actually being the easiest route to jumpstarting his career hopes?
You realize you just used Coog as a source for this, right?

:lmao:

I didn't necessarily mean he would say no comment. I would think he'd say we need a backup now that Cooper Rush is gone, and then go on an praise Rush profusely. Probably would say having Milton to compete with Grier for that job is a good thing.
Yep. That would be sidestepping a question.

He’s not a kid. And New England could not have cared less about where he wanted to go. They took the best offer and dumped him. Now, go back to farting rainbows.

A source of Coog's? oh HELL no. lol.

In my post, I have overly inflated my speculation of what I think he was thinking based upon what was stated in the OP's tweet (posted by @Hawkeye0202), which was:

The #Patriots had a better offer for Milton but chose to send him where he wanted out of respect for him, per source.

Hahah

lol, understood.

It was just timing.

The page where you responded followed closely a Coog post saying he “had seen somewhere” that Milton chose the Cowboys because Dak was injury prone and he had a good chance to start.

Probably, exactly when Uncle Miltie becomes a free agent.

He obviously needs development time. What’s the plan there? Dak getting hurt? Make it make sense.
