Which position can we afford to wait to the 5th to address?

Watching the Voch/Broaddus podcast yesterday, they had an interesting discussion and talking about which position they could wait on to the 5th to address. They have these 4 positions, in no particular order: WR, NT, CB, RB.

Wide Receiver-finding an impact receiver after day 1 could be difficult. There are a few interesting prospects, but will they be an upgrade of what we already have in Tolbert/Mingo?

NT-do you want to see another Saints type of performance again, where the QB barely had to throw the football cause they ran the football right down the field? Have done little to nothing to help their run defense this offseason, if not gotten worse.

CB-could they even field a starting group right now, especially considering Diggs won't be ready to start the season? Who is the nickel, who starts opposite Bland, what happens if Bland goes down again?

RB-this whole offseason has been about fixing their poor run game from a schematic point of view. They are going to need a quality back to be successful. With Dowdle gone, do we have faith in our current group at the position?

I would add Linebacker to the list, especially with Eberflus as our DC now. A former LB coach who always targets high end linebackers for his system.

All this screams, trade down, trade down. I think they can get their RB in the 4th, but not in the 5th. Same could be said about CB/NT, but not WR. Find a way to get that 4th back and they could have a chance.

Personally I don't think they can wait until rd 5 for any of those positions.
I think this draft the team needs to prioritize finding quality players at NT, RB, CB, WR over everything else they need. Yes that's 4 positions and only 3 picks so they are going to have to get creative and get another pick one way or another.
I think if they have to, the positions they can afford to wait on (somewhat) are DE, LB, OL, S, TE. Do I want top draft picks for each of those positions? Yes please, of course I do. But I think the 4 positions listed above are in far more dire a need of an upgrade than any of these others.

OG, OC or TE.
Already have plenty of bodies that aren't total scrubs that decent coaching up will produce good performance.
Don't need them period much less in the 5th or later.

It is worth repeating. Not having a 4th round pick stinks. I think we could have gotten a decent player in the 4th round if we had our pick.

But I can't think of a position that can wait other than offensive line and safety. Other than that, I think they have to find the best player at RB, WR, DT, DE, LB in each of the 1st 3 rounds. Obviously, they can only fill 3 positions that way which means the others have to wait until the 5th.

I’d probably go RB. Give me the more expensive positions eary and then double dip at RB later. Could even use your multiple 5s to trade up into the 4th.

Could probably add guys like Tahj Brooks, Devin Neal etc in the 5th.

I would say DT, S and CB........
**DT... finding a 2-down tech1/NT day-3 shouldn't be that hard
**CB...We have two starters for 2025 but Diggs will miss some time to start the season. But strong Front-7 play can always a few warts in your secondary.
** S.....

It's a big risk and totally missing out on another loaded RB class. I think the sweet spot for the position is going to be in that 3rd-4th rd range. Getting an extra 3rd or 4th can easily fill that need. We hope players like Brooks, Neal, Gordon fall to the 5th, but there is no guaranteed where then we get another Duece who is a healthy scratch every week.

With all this being said, we cannot leave this draft without an impact CB, DT and WR. Losing that 4th really stings and they have no choice but to try to recoop the pick somewhere within those top 3 selections.

You have to fix the run defense, adding another late NT does nothing to fix the problem.

Are you comfortable starting Bland, Elam and Carson/Muku with zero depth?

With the state of this roster, I would even consider moving back to late in rd 1, if it meant we could be 2 more top 100 picks. In this draft that is highly unlikely, but that what this roster truly needs.

We got better defending backs once Mazi improved. Running QB's not so much. That tells me we need LB's more than DT's if we want our run D to improve. The two that gashed us the 2nd half of the season where Barkley and Mixon. Barkley gashed everyone. Mixon really hurt us on the perimeter and cut backs

Those outside runs have been a problem for a few years, it starts with Parsons setting the edge, having linebackers not getting caught up in the trash and corners who can tackle in space. All three levels have struggled, Parsons has improved but other two have been liabilities.

Im hopeing to see Parsons at LB on run downs more. I want to see rookie year usage. If we draft Williams/Stewart and they feel good about Kneeland, that may actually be possible. Downside would be how long as it been since Parsons has actually played any real LB snaps?

If we go WR or DE 1st, it gets really difficult to fill other needs. If it was me, Id look and see whats on the market I can add post draft. CB seems strong there, so I would deemphasis that. I dont like the available WR's, but I like Keenan Allen. Id try to get a handshake deal done with him before the draft
