How long do we wait to draft a RB?

For the record, I firmly believe a RB round 1 is a waste when you can get above average starter later and pick a starter at another position in round 1.

RBs are everywhere nowadays.
100% on point. Is Jeanty going to get 5ypc minimum?

Here is the list of prospects with a grade of 6.10 or higher. The grading scale is included. The teams I believe need to draft a RB are the Raiders, Bears, Steelers, Jags, Broncos, and us. This list is taken from NFL.com and does not include the NextGen scores. Who would you be happy with? Can we grab a quality RB in the 3rd round?

GRADE

8.0
The perfect prospect
7.3-7.5
Perennial All-Pro
7.0-7.1
Pro Bowl talent
6.7-6.9
Year 1 starter
6.5-6.6
Boom-or-bust potential
6.40-6.49
Will become good starter within two years
6.30-6.39
Will eventually be plus starter
6.20-6.29
Will eventually be average starter
6.10-6.19
Good backup with the potential to develop into starter
6.0-6.09
Traits or talent to be above-average backup
5.80-5.99
Average backup or special-teamer
5.60-5.69
Candidate for bottom of roster or practice squad
5.50-5.59
Priority undrafted free agent
So unless we draft Jeanty, the best we can hope for is a RB who "will EVENTUALLY be a Plus starter". Not even a Good starter & will probably take more than 2 years to do that.

Is this grading really accurate? I thought this class was better than that.

Projecting a career is hard and riddled with error. A grade doesn't consider the attitude and drive of the player. Trent Richardson was considered a Pro Bowl player but busted hard. Jordan Mailata's draft profile put him at candidate for bottom of roster or practice squad but just was named 2nd team AP. But the draft profile did say Richardson had "much of his production were yards on plays in a good scheme with a seam and an opportunity to get to linebacker and safety level without much trouble. He may have more trouble getting to the perimeter at the next level and won't beat fast outside linebackers on angles alone," while the profile on Mailata said "Big dude, athletic. Someone will draft him late and he's a project, but very much a freak athlete for his size."

Yeah, it's a crap shoot for sure. You do the research and make the best educated pick you can.

It's extremely sketchy imo. Not sure how he has some names on this list ahead of others not even listed.

I would trade back if possible to 15-20 range. Then focus on WR/CB in round 1 and 2. Then RB/DT in 3 and 4. Get another RB in 5/6.

I get the feeling they won't draft RB in the first 3 rounds. I feel like they would rather shore up OL if they were focusing on improving the run game, and really see what they have with the 2 RBs they picked up in FA. And I think we will see increased workload for Deuce since there is supposedly a coach of his now on the team?? First 3 rounds: I predict they will get an elite OT or OG, along with a CB and maybe a DT or LB, not necessarily in that order.

Jeanty is the only dude that is considered "special", everybody else on the list is on a tier below.

If you want Jeanty, he has to be the pick at 12, he wont be there in the 2nd round. As far as the others, you can probably wait till the 3rd and grab at least one of those dudes.
Not Hampton. He will be gone in the early second but most likely the first.

no later than 76,I actually want to draft another Back like Brashard Smith later too.

They have to be careful because if Jeanty is gone at 12 and Hampton isn't good enough to take at 12 he probably goes late first and there could be a run on RBs in 2nd and Cowboys are chasing the position.
