Brock Purdy on why he took a team friendly contract

People look at Dak's $60m and Purdy's $53m per year and think they aren't that different.

That really isn't the case. Purdy took a 5 year backloaded deal where he put himself at risk. It will be easy for the 9er's to cut him in a few years. Its almost guaranteed that he never sees his last year making his contract less.

Dak took a poison pill 4 year deal where the Cowboys will have difficulty getting rid of him and likely will have to hand him every penny of the contract. Dak is the ONLY QB in the NFL that keeps demanding these 4 year deals too.

Overall, my issue with Dak isn't on the field or with him as a person. Its his financial "get my bag" attitude that has cost the team.
You need a lot of money to tear down a Mansion and build a new one. Maybe this time, he will have a full football field instead of a half one to impress the ladies while he does his little dance.

You mean like Dak did when he played in the option and the tag

No, because everyone knows he’s a system QB and he wasn’t getting big offers anywhere else
I wonder how many of these guys that are dissing Dak for his pay check, will walk in tomorrow and ask for a pay cut? Always easy to talk about another man's money....

He got 263 million after having the worst year of his career….

20 TDS and 12 interceptions…

He’s very fortunate he got offered what he did.
Timing does have a lot to do with it. If he had been trying to get a new contract after an MVP year, his price would have been much higher.

Not saying he doesn't mean what he says, but it's the agents who negotiate these deals and they are going to get what they feel their client is worth vs. the market. That is the agent's job.

This kid has had a roommate his entire career so far. No more of that. He’s a big boy now

My guess, zero
For that analogy to work, you would have to suggest that the employer was offering one employee so much that it would put other employees jobs in danger and \ or that the remainder wouldn't support enough employees to actually carry the workload.

If that was the case, I would take less.

Anyone could go ask for a pay cut at anytime. The point is no one is asking for a pay cut. Some might take one if compsny was in trouble and jobs are at risk. But no one is gonna just volunteer

asking for a paycut is not the same thing as taking a slightly lesser massive raise. speaking for myself only, i bypassed a raise to prevent a coworker from being laid off. and i wasn’t making annually what dak makes in a game

THIS. Timing is everything. We waited to sign Dak and he goes out and came in second in MVP voting so we had to pay king ransom.

This was Dak's stats in 2023.
Dak Prescott had a passer rating of 105.9 with 4,516 yards, 36 touchdowns and 9 interceptions in 17 games in 2023. Which may have been the best year of his career stats wise.

But it's not Dak's fault that Jerry keeps resigning him. lol

Jerry and Stephen Jones are push overs when it comes to signing their own guys. They fall in love with the player too much which clouds their decision making when thinking of the bigger TEAM picture.

No one's talking about another man's money. Only comments are strictly related to the salary cap hits from his enormous contract. And that is strictly related to wanting to win a super bowl.

Was Brady a "system" quarterback? And he always took less money because he was intelligent enough to know he needed help to win championships. He never had to be the "highest paid at his position". And he also was about winning instead of "building his brand" so I guess the comparison is wasted on the majority of today's athletes.

Because the 49ers had an alternative, a young, but experienced former 1st round draft pick in case Purdy tried to hold out..

Mac Jones may not be their long term answer, but they wouldn't have been afraid to start him for a season.

The 49ers have a history of not reacting to any perceived leverage from a player.

The 49es have drafted 14 QBs in the past 26 seasons. They try to give themselves options at the position.

The Cowboys have drafted 6 in that same time span.
