Rate the last movie you saw

I tried watching Old Guard 2 on Netflix last night. I fell asleep a couple of times so I have to watch it again. But from what I saw was kind of lame. I'll try to watch it again tonight maybe.

What I did see, it sets up for another sequel. The question is will Netflix actually film it or cancel it?

It was not as good as the original but I think with the original you went into it with no expectations where with the sequel you were really wanting to see it...at least that is how I felt.

Pretty sure they have a third part, not sure why they would end it like that if they do not plan on it.

Since Netflix has not committed to do a 3rd movie I am guessing they are waiting to see how ell this one does. If viewer interest is there they will do the 3rd one. If not, they we let it die.

That may be the case. I think several examples (at least) of that perspective are embedded in the original film, also. Other things, like a bad plotline or direction, tend to put me to sleep, which is what I think @Creeper may have been alluding to.

As I have mentioned in the past, I view all fictional work as make-believe. Any strong female role characterization (or multiples of them) in movies and television series are entertaining to me. I have a huge imagination, so I almost always enjoy how those kinds of depictions fill it.

I wasn't thinking about the female thing actually. I agree it is overdone these days, but under certain circumstances they can pull it off. I did not find some of the fight scenes with Charlize Theron convincing in Old Guard 2, but it didn't disturb me as much as some other shows. I think Old Guard 2 did not have an interesting plot, but maybe I was just too tired to deal with it.
 
Just saw Elio with my daughter. Simple same Disney movie formula with a twist of the unknown. Kind of like a cross of Zootopia and Up.

She was entertained so I will give it a 6.5.
 
Terror by Night black & white 40’s. Basil Rathbone as Sherkock Holmes. Seen it many times . Train mystery at night and you never guess who the crook is . And not one special effect or robot my goodness .
 
My sister convinced me to watch "Nonnas" on Netflix last night. It is not the kind of movie I would normally watch, but coming from my older sister I gave it a try.

It is a story about an Italian American boy who grows up close to his mother and grand-mother. As an adult he attempts to replicate his mothers Italian dishes, then decides he wants to open an Italian restaurant but instead of hiring real chefs, he would have elderly Italian- American "nonnas" cook the food and make the restaurant like a big family get together. It's a cute story and a lot of the Italian culture is poured on heavily, almost too much. Both of my parents were first generation Italian-Americans, so I grew up with a lot of that culture. I only knew 1 of my grandmothers, and she never learned to speak English after coming here at age 15. I will say this, I have never been to an Italian restaurant where the food was as good as what my mother, aunts, and grandmother cooked. So the idea for the restaurant seems like a good one to me. Btw, this is actually based on a true story about a Staten Island restaurant. In any case, having been in this kind of family, it was never as thick with Italian culture as they portray in this movie. And trust me, every Sunday family get together was a big cooking event for the women in the family. The "Sunday" sauce was always critical to the meal and it was always the best I have ever tasted.

I don't know how if non-Italian Americans will understand all the cultural humor or even the importance of food to Italian American nonnas, but there is still something enjoyable about the story.

The studios managed to dig up the usual batch of Italian American actors and actresses, or at least half Italian in some cases. Vince Vaughn plays the boy as an adult. At 55, he might be a little old for the part. He is half Italian on his mother's side. Susan Sarandon plays one of the cooks, she is also half Italian. On a side note, she and I share some distant relatives based on our DNA profiles. Talia Shire is another, along with Lorraine Bracco and Brenda Vaccaro. Drea de Matteo has a part as does Linda Cardellini, who you might know from the Avengers movies where she plays Laura Barton, wife of Hawkeye.

I am not a big Vince Vaughn fan so that was one big negative for me, and honestly, I think Drea de Matteo, Lorraine Bracco and Talia Shire are just so-so actresses. But they are not horrible in this movie. They aren't good either. If you like cutesy stories sopped in a cultural background, you will probably like this movie. I could take it or leave it.
 


Kinda of Meh although the idea behind it was kind of cool.



Reminds me of Insidious...especially the last key one.
If you like those movies, chances are you will like this one.




Interesting concept. Some of the "twists" in it are pretty obvious.
It's not bad but I think it could have been much better with a few changes.
 


A few funny parts but for the most part the same movie made many times. Two guys start off not liking each other and at the end become friends.



Did not even knew they made a sequel. You pretty much know what you will get with a Liam Neeson movie. Nothing new or innovative and even if it is silly at times, at the worst it is ok for a mindless action movie.

Could have been WAY better. I wish they would have leaned more into the lore of the music instead of wasting so much time setting up disposable characters. It was great seeing Delroy Lindo in something. I haven't seen him in a long time in a movie. Michael B. Jordan was good playing twins.

There's some awesome pieces of cinematography, including an amazing sequence that is hard to describe, that has to do with music transcending the natural world.

The movie is mostly just a From Dusk Til Dawn knockoff, however.

I enjoyed it, but yeah, was wondering why I wasn't reading much how it felt like a Dusk Til Dawn knockoff. Then I read an article about the movie business doing nothing but retreads and reboots these days, and one of the guys in the article pointed out that even the highly rated big earners this year like Sinners were just copycats of other movies.

Yeah, disappointing for sure. They had something unique with the music aspect and just kind of wasted it. They also spent 30 minutes too long building up throwaway characters.
 
Bring Her Back: 9/10

Straight forward horror flick with some really gruesome scenes in it. The Philippou brothers are the real deal. I liked Talk To Me better, but this was pretty good.

Has anyone rated 28 Years Later?

First, the rating: 5/10

The movie was a big disappointment. It was entirely predictable, relied too heavily on gore and completely wasted the talents of Ralph Fiennes.

I really liked 28 Days Later but like many sequels, 28 Years Later failed to measure up.
 
Final Destination 1. They're on 5 or 6 now, so decided to give this franchise a try.

Looks like the whole series are stories about people who should have died but didn't and so the Grim Reaper is coming for them?

What I dug about Final Destination 1 was its fear of flying. I used to have that and took me a while but finally got over it.

Watching that movie was like watching a true horror movie. LOL. They really capitalized on all the paranoid thoughts someone has who gets on a plane with that fear.
