Brian Schottenheimer is an Elite Head Coach

Yeah, that was the one thing I wasn't concerned about Schotty. He's going to be better at clock and game management than McCarthy and the Clapper were just by default, it's drilled into him.

He's also, despite some outliers (the fade) doing better at play calling, especially over Garrett's almost every play insanity. One of the things his dad taught me was that simplicity wasn't a problem as long as you read the situation and play to strengths. We soon forget how often Garrett and Moore kept trying to get cute with the offense. Moore's kept doing it with the Chargers and with the Saints. A buddy of mine has a friend on the Saints, I won't say who it is, but all is NOT happy in the New Orleans locker room on offense.

I think Brian's biggest need is to get a bit mentally out of his Dad's shadow. He seems to be wrestling a bit with how his Dad did it and how modern analytics tell him to do it. It's his first year, so that's a natural thing I'd think. Not everyone can be Sean McVay.

Still, those are the little things that make all the difference. How many games did we lose with Garrett, Wade, and Mike because of bad clock management, not knowing the rule book, or bad game management? The fact he knows how to do that is an elite coach in the making. So many games are won and lost on that alone. For me, that was the first area that I wanted to see. To me, that makes a huge difference as to whether we have a good to top coach or a bad coach. The fact he's good at this stuff leans to him being among the better coaches imo. To me, it means you will likely not have a coaching problem that causes you to lose, from an HC perspective. At that point, it's down to the players to execute.

It's interesting how Moore is frustrating the saints from that. Shows the difference between him and Schotty.

I am with you about where his next stage of development comes in. I like that he has that working relationship with Dak. I think he should continue to trust Dak and let him do what he needs to do. I think he needs to just be the best Brian Schottenheimer that he can be. He doesn't need to be Marty 2.0. he doesn't need to be McVay 2.0. He just needs to be the best Brian Schottenheimer he can be, and, so far, he's well on his way imo. The fact that he's a rookie HC and he hasn't appeared on JaguarGator9's Dumb Decisions series yet says a lot. Where he's lost is not trusting Dak, and it seems he's made that clear.

Yes I thought it was a good hire but wasn’t for sure Im saying it know he will get us to the Super Bowl in the next 3 years

And that would be amazing if he does. If we stay healthy and we can keep building this team up (especially the defence and extending Pickens and Aubrey this offseason), I genuinely think we will too. I think he's good enough so far to where I think the Dallas Cowboys will be in a Super Bowl within a few years.

I said a few weeks ago that I wished we could have had Schottenheimer sooner. I'll double down here. So far, Brian Schottenheimer is an elite Head Coach.

Has he been perfect? No, but every coach makes a few errors. However, by and large, he's made a lot more great coaching decisions than mistakes. He's good with clock management so far. In a league where you can regularly call out mind numbingly stupid clock management decisions, Brian Schottenheimer (a rookie HC) hasn't made those. Sure, he's gotten a bit overly aggressive times, but a lot of coaches are aggressive now.

Furthermore, not only has he beaten both Super Bowl Teams in the span of 4 days. Not only has he also beaten the Commanders and was a dropped ball away from sweeping Philly. He's outright OUTCOACHED Andy Reid, Sirianni, and Quinn. Remember when we would be upset because we were regularly outcoached under Jason Garrett? I think it'd safe to say we are not being outcoached. He's putting the team in great positions to win (excluding maybe the Cardinals game, which he has really improved from). He's trusting his QB. He's calling mostly great plays. He's managing his time-outs brilliantly.

It's nice to finally be able to say that we have an elite Head Coach in 2025. Who'd have thought that we might actually have the best HC in the division at the start of the season? Even if we don't make the playoffs this year, I currently have full confidence in Schottenheimer in 2026.
I don't know about elite, let's not go overboard. He seems to have the respect of his players more than a few of our last coaches. That IS something. I also am partial to give him a pass this first season because of what the front office did with the Defense this past off season and for the Eberfluke hire which Schotty had NO SAY on.

He has earned the right to pick another coordinator if he wants this next off season IMO. If he can improve his red zone play calling a little it's possible we might've finally gotten a Sean Payton type coach. No reason not to be at least mostly positive on Schotty so far.

I agree, and regardless of DC, this defence has gotten better. Between the additions, the returns from injury, and the conversation he had with Eberflus, I like how much better this defence is playing. If we can keep building and, like you said, get better in the red zone, we might get nearly unbeatable. All in all, he's been outstanding for a rookie hc.

Plus, like I was saying, I like how he's getting the small stuff right. I think that's important that the smaller details like clock management, game management, and rulebook management are clearly understood. To me, he's got that down pat so far. I also like that I see a physical Cowboys team. It's a nice edge we're developing. I think it creates a culture that will bode well for us in the future.

It's all good while winning. People were ready to throw him out after losing to the Cardinals but the Offense he has implemented is getting to the undeniable point even for all his naysayers. I admit I am one and if things keep improving, will have to admit I was wrong but I am not going to be the only one if that happens. 95% of the national media crucified the hire of Schotty. LOL!

I agree with you but I think you underestimate how much respect McCarthy had. It may not have shown much on the field but the team absolutely did respect him in the locker room and weren't happy about his leaving.

Schotty is absolutely getting more than Garrett though. Even though Garrett was a player and a Cowboy the dude, like Moore, was always the biggest brain in the room and let everyone know it. Watch some of the behind the scenes stuff with him and you can see Garrett was a condesending extremely foul mouthed guy that constantly coached by telling players how dumb they were for not executing. He had a college football, drill sergeant mentality driven by his adoration of his mentor Nick Saban and it just didn't work.

One thing I got from meeting Schotty personally is that I very much doubt he's bringing that Junction Boys style to the team.

Well, and it'd make it that much greater if he actually proves them all wrong. And as a horse, all I usually say is neigh, but I can't neighsay him. He's been terrific!

The Titans probably would. Id imagine the Giants would. I think you'd probably get the Dolphins wanting him after what he's done with Dak. I think the Browns would take him. And there are a few others with young QBs who'd want to try him.
What he did with Dak?Dak was rookie of the year.

I think we do too so far. He's been impressive. It's nice not having to worry about the HC.
He looks the part minus the look of dismay Wade perpetually had with his lower jaw open, Campo with the mad look because he knew he sucked, Chan with just happy to be here glow, and JG with youthful gingerness.

Well I wasn't one of those ,I actually thought it was a good hire ,not right away ,not like the day of, I thought it was a joke, I really thought we were being trolled yes April Fools, but when I saw the staff he put together it changed my mind, and I would never call him elite, But he's a really good coach,

I like the way he calls plays for the most part ,I think he designed this offense better, but him using Riley and Klayton Adams what they're doing with the offensive line, And I said it go back and get the receipts from what I said back then. Like before game one ,and I know this season hasn't gone as a lot of us hoped, but Brian Schottenheimer himself, his offense, a lot of decisions he's made, the way he's galvanized his team through a lot of struggles, I like him, I really do like him..

I know people can go and use all 12 games and find five or six knucklehead decisions, but you know what I can do that with all the coaches, Or maybe there's a little bit more, but I just like him better than McCarthy, and I don't know why there's just something about him that seems more blue collar, homegrown, even though he wasn't Jason Garrett like he didn't play for the Cowboys, there's just something that feels like he's a good fit for this team, he can grow with it...

Don't fall into recency bias ,He's He's doing a great job, He's helped galvanized his team with all the struggles and the negative things that's happened the last month, he's doing a really good job, but he's not elite, come on man..

I hear people talking about how great Matt Eberfles is now too i'm not letting anyone off the hook.. That's what you call recency bias you guys are smelling those fumes from this 3 game win streak and I get it it was so depressing before the bye week and now it feels so good but that doesn't mean that he's elite...

Said this before the season started and they asked like what grade would you give the guy you know after watching him through camp and everything and I said a B plus ,and I'm still going to give him a B plus this team...

But like our team and like some of our young players he has room to grow he's a first time head coach and maybe he can improve that grade but I am happy they hired him I I think he's a good fit for this team...

The Cowboys are 6-5-1.
They have won 3 in a row now that they've gotten Agen O, sam Williams, hooker, quinteen Williams and others on field... Shotty has been great so far, that can't be disputed, especially how he handled the kneeland thing... Bottom line though, Jerry has made some smart moves for a change.

He didn't just out coached Ried, he dog walked his fat butt up and down the field. He out coached a desperate KC team that went to three consecutive SBs. Not easy.

I can appreciate the positivity, but let's not exaggerate man, you're being extra, LOL

first of all, he didn't dog walk Andy Reid, that would be Spagnola, he coached against the defense for the most part, that's his main job, I know he's a head coach as well, but Amy Reid and Patrick Mahomes put up four touchdown they lost by three points on the road..

I wouldn't call that dog walked, it was a great game actually, but yeah, it's nice to come out on the other end of two games in a row against what people would allege to be better coaching staffs,

so yes, it's a nice little run we're on...

No t just the last 3 games though, he should get credit for the whole year,

the way he's handled the thing with Marshawn Kneeland, the way he's handled all the injuries ,all the chatter ,all the noise, he's done a really good job keeping this team together, and I like his offense, I like his schemes, I like his hires with Riley and Klayton Adams, he's done a really good job..

I mean the Cowboys aren't where fans would love them to be, but a first-year head coach he's doing really good Especially pulling double duty as the play caller...

3-0 since adding talent to the defense.

Schottenheimers offense has been great all season.
Except against Chicago. Except against Arizona. Unless you consider scoring 17 or less great. I'd throw in the first Philly game, but that one's on Lamb and Ferguson.

Although the final score was a three-point difference, we marched down the field to run out the clock and could have scored at least three more there if we'd needed it. I think sometimes that gets lost when a team effectively runs out the clock. KC was the desperate team down by 10. That's a pretty good accomplishment.
