Goodell: I'm amazed at how good our officials are (Read Post 75)

Thus far you have provided no evidence that Goodell hasn’t led the league to more prosperity and popularity protecting the shield and building the brand fulfilling his position for representation of ownership.

The owners call all the important shots ....... he just exist to hand out fines and promote crap to appease radical interests that has nothing to do with football.

Yet you act like he is a big savior.

Sad and pathetic.

Not reading through every post but did anyone mention how ridiculous it is to expect older people to run step for step with the elite of elite level athletes and make a split second call as to what actually happened? Spot a ball when they can’t see through bodies, etc….

Yeah it probably IS “amazing” that they get things right as often as they do.

Just use the same technology that allows fans to see the mistakes to get the call right. They’ve been pretty good with that lately.

Pass interference remains the biggest problem.

Listen, there have been complaints about bad calls since the beginning of football. That will never change.

But the outcry has been worse than ever under Goodell. Of course the NFL is more prosperous now, with the sponsorships from things like Draft Kings and other betting related sites- things the league would not touch with a 50 foot pole even a decade ago.

Hmmm, I wonder if there's a connection....

Screw websites like FanDuel or similar sites that pick winners. All you have to do is watch how the refs call the games, and you’ll know which team will win.

Once I saw the refs refuse to call a facemask against the Seahawks on Stafford, I knew the Seahawks were going to win the game.

I never said he’s a savior . He’s been a tremendous leader representing the interest of the owners.

His disciplinary actions have been critical in upholding the integrity of the league while holding off special interest groups lawsuits and ultimately congressional action.

It’s amazing that if fans truly believe in these conspiracy theories it’s certainly not reflected in their betting habits which continue to grow.

Most likely the noise is coming from a very vocal minority who basically just have sour grapes.

Is there hard evidence that officiating is worse than it was before all of the reviewing . And I’m not even sure we can provide hard evidence fans are more in uproar than eras past. We just have social media now where mostly anonymous fans with sour grapes speak out.

So what happens in the SB, when the game is decided by a blown call.

I wouldn't say it's a Goodell issue (I don't care for him, BTW). The blown or missed calls were always there, it's just that TV (replay and better announcers) have the ability to point every little thing out like never before. Welcome to "progress".

It’s difficult for a game to end or be decided near end of game on a blown call as so many are reviewable .

Blown calls have always been part of the game. Having so many plays reviewable has limited .

There’s always going to be a human element . Unless we want play stopped after every play so all officiating and play is reviewed for perfection. Is that what we really want. I certainly don’t .

He’s paid near $65 million per year. By the owners. Obviously you don’t know what he does. Just as obvious, a group of people that understand value, particularly their own, collectively pay him an astounding amount of money. Suffice to say as long as his efforts make them richer he’ll continue to be their commissioner.

The NFL has more to do with money than football.

Roughing the passer has it beat ......
Ah right….about the same really.

It’s tough to reverse those though. I can understand that to a point.

Would just be nice to get it right. It’s disgusting when an egregious call can’t be reversed.

There should be a head ref in the booth with a monitor that has all the power.

Many games come down to inches and seconds. Get it right one way to another.

How do we take out the human element in officiating?

Making all calls perfect or getting it right. Even an official in the booth use judgement.

Shoot, even fans sitting on their couch see the same replay over and over again dont all agree on the call.

Sigh ....... another one.

Exactly. And the NFL once made a commercial poking fun at the "script" when in reality all that ad did was reinforce the conspiracy theory. Because I didn't expect the NFL to even take the leap to acknowledge it.
