Goodell: I'm amazed at how good our officials are (Read Post 75)

If the owners thought for a moment they would be better off without him he’d be terminated in that same moment.
Yea yea ......... Goodell is great ........ we know ....... the other one has been beating that drum all day

How do we take out the human element in officiating?

Making all calls perfect or getting it right. Even an official in the booth use judgement.

Shoot, even fans sitting on their couch see the same replay over and over again dont all agree on the call.
You don’t, but you’ve gotta admit there’s some things that slip by because they aren’t subject to challenge.

I’m not trying to bad mouth refs as much as I’m saying it seems impossible to ask them to get it perfectly right without help.

We wouldn’t know about most bad calls if it weren’t for replay. Use the same to correct it.

But yes, judgement calls like PI and roughing the QB are tough to reverse. Doesn’t much matter. Even terrible calls that decide games are forgotten about before long.

He has navigated the league thru some unparalleled issues while continuing to grow the brand deserving much more credit that some want to provide .
He's no Paul Tagliabue, IMO. I have a hard time liking Goodell, because I associate him with many unnecessary rule changes to the game, that I don't feel have improved it. Honestly, I wish they would change the commish more often.

That would be a bad look for the NFL, it would be like changing head coaches more often on one team like the Browns and Raiders

Goodell is a spineless jellyfish who will say or do anything to keep his gravy train going.

I never said he’s a savior . He’s been a tremendous leader representing the interest of the owners.

His disciplinary actions have been critical in upholding the integrity of the league while holding off special interest groups lawsuits and ultimately congressional action.
this is so pathetic

it amazes me so much stupidity in one post

If you aren’t supportive of Goodell then you aren’t supportive of the NFL , its owners and direction it’s headed and what the shield represents.

The rule changes haven’t necessarily improved the game but they have preserved the game protecting it from special interest lawsuits and congressional oversight while continuing to grow the brand and prosperity thereof.

Something every commish before Goodell has done.
And why Goodell should be considered in the same elite category as his predecessors.

I’d place him even higher because no other Commish has had such unpopular but necessary means to discipline players and coaches in order to stave off special interest groups and potential congressional oversight in order to protect the shield and continued prosperity.

He's been Commish for 19 years. Maybe there needs to be a 10 year term limit.
If the commissioner is doing a good job and his 10 year term limit is up and then they hire a terrible commissioner, fans would be complaining that the former commissioner should have stayed longer than 10 years, I doubt the NFL and fans would go for the 10 year term limit

They agree with what their heart tells them they need to believe. Also, you're assuming they'd even know the ins and outs of the rule they're disputing but they often don't. So controversy, combined with lack of knowledge, equals "outrage," which the NFL is fine with because it drives ratings. Who needs ref nefariousness with those optics? Lol.

And they do correct on reviewable calls. They are fixing to start reviewing roughing the QB and Facemask calls next year. As they think too many are missed.

Yes , unfortunately emotion driven by their fandom derived from sour grapes fuels much of the outrage for officiating.
