Yep, the players union really needs to work out a compensation plan with the league regarding tagged players and injuries and payouts by the team that don't effect the cap! That’s easy to say as a QB. As a receiver you get hurt you’re cooked.
They definitely waited too long on the first contract and they ended up costing themselves more money delaying a deal. The 2nd they could have let him play out his final year, but they ended up extending him and he went on to play his worst season and got injured before rebounding this season. I dont think he would have gotten 60 million a year after his 2024 season. He's technically played under the franchise tag once, but regardless the Cowboys could have managed this contract better.Dak played on 2 tags which is why we are stuck with the worst QB contract in the NFL. We had to sign him for what he wanted or he could have walked for nothing. Thats the corner Jerry backed himself into.
do they think because they can make all this cap space that we can just use it like this and take a 28 million cap hit? We could use that money elsewhere if they'd just extend him.Well, certainly not right now. He’ll play on the tag or be traded.
I usually do not listen to Jerry, except for some clips I may watch on here.Jerry said it himself in a bus interview. Didn’t you watch those?
That’s the reason to extend him. They don’t want to commit any more than they have to beyond this year.do they think because they can make all this cap space that we can just use it like this and take a 28 million cap hit? We could use that money elsewhere if they'd just extend him.
Well, that’s where he said they didn’t even touch on a long term negotiation and simply informed him he was going to be on the tag.I usually do not listen to Jerry, except for some clips I may watch on here.
Also, does anyone truly believe what Jerry says?
I believe he says stuff to throw people off and probably does not remember half of what he says.
one day that liquid money is going to dry up and he won't be able to handle life!!!That’s the reason to extend him. They don’t want to commit any more than they have to beyond this year.
Jerry liked to keep his money liquid.
Yep.Dak knows how to beat Jerry. Wait him out and Jerry will always back himself into a corner.
You provided he said that only in a post. Where is the link, that is the proof.Well, that’s where he said they didn’t even touch on a long term negotiation and simply informed him he was going to be on the tag.
I stated this and you said I had no idea if anything was discussed.
I provided the source, Jerry himself, and you said he can’t be trusted.
You can’t deny he said something and then discount it when the words were his own and on video.
Wish I was cool to do that with no link, my post may actually vanish!!!!You provided he said that only in a post. Where is the link, that is the proof.
I can say Jerry said something as well, and provide no link.

It is the same.Well yes the Cowboys being stupid is also a part of the equation lol.
I just don't really think playing on the tag is the same as betting on yourself.
This clearly means!!??
it's exactly why he should force them to pay based on the season he just came off of, don't take less, they don't want to pay you, say you want to be traded!!!!!!!! Numbers just aren't working! It is the same.
Pickens has to bet on himself and show he's not a one year wonder. It's why the Cowboys are willing to let him play on the tag this year and then decide whether or not he's worth a long term deal in 2027. Let's make sure last year wasn't an outlier. If Pickens slides back and catches 55 passes for 800 yards and three touchdowns next year, is any team paying him $30 million APY long term?
And if another team wants to move in and sign Pickens now, the Cowboys get significant draft compensation.
If Pickens believes he's not a one-year wonder, he should be maximizing guarantees by signing his second UFA contract as soon as possible, even if that means taking a bit less than he would get as a UFA.It is the same.

Thanks for sharing. When the PAD DADDY speaks, NOBODY listens!
I can guarantee you this—Dallas is not paying that man $37.5 million with Lamb already on the roster at $34 million. It’s not happening. He can seek a trade elsewhere, and in three years find a new deal, because I don’t think the Cowboys will even bother going through with it.Betting on himself would be signing now and then cashing in again in 3 years, imo.
All that Pickens can do on the tag is lose leverage. Sign your ~4x$150m deal now and then get your extension after year three or go UFA at age 29 to get your second $150m+ deal.
