I'd be good with option #2. I don't see a big difference this year between most of the guys ranked at #20 and the guys ranked at #30.

Pick #12 seems like our last chance to grab a top talent who falls, so I would be hesitant to move off of that spot. It's like last year when Tyler Warren fell into our laps.

I'm good with either and the beauty of it is that these deals fit for both teams.

Bobby Wagner still out there at 36 what about a one year give him the green dot . He’s bound to have a good effect on the young LB’s Dallas drafted lately . And draft another one in April rebuild .

When you really consider options with Overshown he is a bit of an interesting case study. I could see Overshown being a unique chess piece as a situational pass rusher, big nickel safety, etc.

But if Overshown is used improperly (traditionally) in a 3/4 defense he seems to be too undersized to really be an every down linebacker, depending on what ask him to do. If he is taking on guards on a frequent basis I doubt he lasts the season.

This truly why CP was brought in. Not to turn chicken you know what into chicken salad, but to find a bit of a misnomer in Overshown and maximizing his value to the defense utilizing his particular set of skills, even though on the whole he doesn’t fit a traditional, undersized off ball LB or oversized safety.

I don’t think Overshown is very good playing backwards. He’s all down hill at this point in his career, and probably won’t be otherwise later.

Someone on here mentioned this style of D CP bringing in doesn’t ask its lbs to play the field like a lb in a Tampa, cover 2, where their drops in coverage are much deeper. And like you suggested, he would be pretty effective as a situational edge rusher as he has already showcased.

A good chance that something happens. There are a couple of ways to a deal with Miami.
1. Trade 92 for Brooks.
2. Trade 20 for pick 30 and Brooks.

Number 2 would work especially if Miami did not take a receiver at 11.

Perhaps 92, but if they are actively shopping him, I think somebody with multiple picks will give up a 2 for him, assuming he signs the extension. I do not see Miami giving up Brooks for your 2nd scenario. Why trade him just to move up 10 spots? If they want to replace him with another LB, there are plenty to choose from or they have plenty of capital to move up further to get Styles or Reese

Tolbert is currently their top receiver.

Especially if the last year of his contract. They would need to renegotiate it. So now knowing this, not even for a 4th.

Maybe a 5th since he would be another 1 year rental.

No keeping your picks is a better way to go . Target a FA and go after him .

Brooks wasn’t a free agent.

None of the FA LB’s are in Brooks category (IMO). I wouldn’t have spent big money for Dean, Lloyd, or Walker. I think they are getting paid more than they are worth, so I’m glad Dallas didn’t get in a bidding war with Las Vegas.

The only one of those 3 that I liked was Dean and He’s been hurt every year going back to his college career.

Brooks, on the other hand, is worth bigger money. He is a complete off-ball LB (with the physical and mental ability that Parker wants) and he would be exactly what Dallas needs. I’d gladly give up a 3rd for him, although I’d rather it be next year’s 3rd. Miami has so many picks this season already, they might would rather a pick next year in a draft that is laden with QB’s.

Speaking for myself, I’d trade for Brooks and hopefully come out of round 1 with an edge and a CB. That would give the Cowboys a real good chance of having a more than competitive defense this season.

In a defense that (IMO) will show a lot of improvement solely because of schematic/coaching changes, the players Dallas get in this scenario could make a very big difference this season.

With a first round where Dallas ends up with someone like Mansoor Delane and Cashius Howell (for instance), would make for a significant offseason of improving the defense.

That would be a really nice offseason of work on the defense. Particularly since I think the biggest improvement will come from the new coaches and the excellent scheme… but that would be a huge jump in personnel as well.

Really believe they are going to see what happens in the draft first before they make a trade for a linebacker or edge rusher, kind of like last year when they traded for Pickens after the draft.
