This is pretty consistent with most players tagged for a 2nd time. Generally speaking, they don't seem to have issues with the initial tag, but the 2nd is a different ball game, especially if they play at a similar/better level.

I can't see any team even negotiating with him before calling Dallas to ask what it would be willing to take instead of two first-round picks.

If he hadn’t been tagged, Denver absolutely would’ve gone after him. I’m on a Denver forum and there was a lot of buzz about wanting him. They even gave up a first and a third for Waddle, who isn’t in the same league as Pickens. So yeah, teams clearly want him.

Osa’s contract was awful. Only Dallas would hand that kind of money to an underperforming DT while someone like Josh Sweat was available for less. Yeah, I get it — different positions. DT vs DE. But the point still stands.

You can find a serviceable DT almost anywhere. Plug a guy in, let him eat space, and move on. Pass rushers like Sweat don’t grow on trees. That’s the kind of player you invest in if you actually want pressure off the edge for the next few years.

Moves like this don’t just make you question the front office — they make you question the sanity of the Jones family and whether they actually understand how football works.

This^^^^^^ remember Stephen Jones' words the day they tagged him? "We can't take a chance on losing him". But applied the non-exclusive tag, instead of the more secure, iron-clad exclusive tag. This tells me he was 100% confident NO team would make a qualifying offer required for a trade.

Honestly I think its the fatigue of constantly having a terrible defense - i think the concept of trading him and adding another 1st round defensive player makes people feel better than what you are talking to in the offensive mismatch for opposing defenses.

I agree with you that him plus lamb is amazing for matchups but even that being said if we got something like a mid round first and a 4th id do it in a heartbeat simply bc of the reason stated above

Unlike the Dallas Cowboys the other 31 teams can understand a talented, young wide receiver not feeling good about being forced to accept playing on the franchise tag. No team will hold his behavior against him. Only a trash organization like the Cowboys can’t appreciate the difference between a player that’s a hostage and one that’s a volunteer.

At a certain point Pickens will be thrilled to play for any other team at lower compensation if need be just to get away from Dallas. Hope he signs the tag 24 hours before game 1, shows up for the first game, dons his uniform, and lies down on a training table during the opening kickoff holding a copy of “Inner Excellence: Train Your Mind for Extraordinary Performance and the Best Possible Life”. Hilarious.
