Have I missed the news Pickens signed the franchise tag? He can’t be traded if he hasn’t.

I thought we were able to? Even if not, perhaps it'd be something agreeable to Pickens to sign the tag to be able to be traded. Either way, if we can make this trade work, we should.

Pretty sure Pats and Seahawks fans were thinking the same thing this time last year.
We literally had the #1 offense and the worst defense in the league last season. Upgrade the D to the middle of the pack and we are right there contending IMO.

Going to take 2-3 years to get to middle of the pack or better imo. Even then that wouldn't mean Dallas is a contender. I haven't seen them as an actual contender since 2007. They weren't contenders when the lost to sf both times in the playoffs with top 3-5 defenses.

Pats suprised me last season the seahawks didnt. This hasn't been a good offseason. So I dont expect a good season coming up.

i like your thinkin rusty but i dont think pickens is gonna get us a first rounder. And trying to get a 1st, 3rd and a bunch of other picks is asking for the impossible IMO. The new team will have to pay him a fortune, i cant see anyone parting with alot of draft picks to do that. Maybe I'm wrong.

If jerry didnt know this agents name last year, I guarantee he's gonna know it by the time the Pickens situation is resolved.

Having two WRs taking up 30 percent of the cap doesn’t make sense to anyone but you.

It’s not a crazy scenario. It’s the reality of the cap and having two guys who have no idea what they are doing at the helm.

Lamb is 6.5% of the Cap. If they sign Pickens, he'll be around 4% of the cap. They'll most likely never take up 30% of the cap for as long as they are on the team.

Honestly, I think it depends on how Jerry sells it. The Raiders would probably want a WR to help Mendoza. So, why not see what they'd want for Pickens


Also, thank you!! Sidenote, I'm excited to be in Pittsburgh Friday (will be one of two separate trips to Pittsburgh). Was initially going to drive there and back that night, but then I found a hotel 8 minutes walk from the draft for $288. So, I ended up doing that (so that way I'm not leaving Pittsburgh around 11 to get back to Cleveland). Which is great because I can partial suit (without the head) at the draft the Friday Night, and I might fullsuit at the draft on the Saturday morning until about 1/1:15. Then I'd have to head back to Cleveland for church and a hang out that night. It's especially important to me to fursuit during the draft because this will be year 20 since the convention i go to in Pittsburgh moved there (will be there July 4 weekend as well). So, this will be my way to say thank you to Pittsburgh since they always welcome us furries to town. So, this will be my way to say thank you to Pittsburgh (while wearing a Cowboys jersey over my suit) in only a way I can.

So, for those on this board who will be at the draft, you might get to meet a furry on Saturday! Also, I should have a tail on Friday Night.

No. Pickens controls that and I doubt he’s going to sign it without first getting a new deal. He may eventually get traded, but it won’t be this week.

I think they’ve been intentional. I don’t think they ever had any intention of signing him long term. They know they can have him for one or two more years at an under market cost.

So why not just do a front loaded long term contract, take the bigger cap hits now and have a star player on a bargain deal? Thats the part I don’t get. Playing two years of premium cap hits and losing the player seems worse than two years of premium cap it’s and keeping the player seems worse

Because there is a limited pot, unlike in the 60s,70s, and 80s. Your argument would have merit if there were no cap.

Somehow teams like the rams, eagles, chiefs, seahawks, and other recent SB winners say, “Hold my beer” when told about their cap restrictions.

If you honestly believe the Cowboys are doing a great job managing their cap dollars you aren’t paying enough attention to any other NFL team. Especially the ones hoisting Lombardis this century.

The biggest challenge would be the acquiring team would need to have room to absorb the $27M tag amount. Even if they immediately sign a new contract with a lower cap hit, for the initial trade to go through, the tag would have to fit.

That’s an excellent point. There’re probably ways to work around that, though. That’s what the smart folks get paid big bucks to do.

I think we do with Dak as far as the QB goes. And nothing says we can't draft a WR to replace Pickens. Plus, Flournoy is a solid WR too. So, I think we can generate decent enough weapons even with the trade. Plus, I like Williams. I do think we have a decent run game. I'm actually about to post a mock.draft I just ran involving a Pickens trade and trade down that I think covers most if not all of this. While we are not a championship contender in 2026, I actually think a Pickens trade gets us closer to being able to contend in 2027. I think, in fact, we could win our division and get at least to the division round IF we draft right, and that would likely require a Pickens trade.

That defense had Micah on it. And the high powered offense didnt show up.
