How good are Cowboy going to be this year?

This is our reality. We are an average team with glaring weaknesses at several critical premier positions

Zone can’t accept that though so we are going to be hearing this is a make or break year for Schottenheimer with calls for him being fired at various points.

We haven’t had our prediction poll yet but I’m sure it will be higher this year.

I’m still quite cautious because this is still in my predicted rebuild window

It’s a fair argument that if the defense is improved which it should be over a historically futile defense in 2025 then if offense is close to last year it should be an improved overall team this year.

I think the bigger argument is how much improved is the defense and can the offense repeat its excellent season.

The over/ under this year is 9 1/2 which I think is reasonable to believe with an improved defense even if it’s in lower half should improve a top offense to 2-3 more wins than last year.

Dont think thats a big stretch as most argued last year with closer to average defense we were a playoff contender. But championship aspirations are way over the top hype which is unfounded without seeing the season unfold.

And so my question for this year still remains. IF all these massive defensive improvements still only nets 7 wins this year then is that still considered massive improvement?

First of all....so much about defense is how well they jell, the fire they possess, and how the team just clicks.

We don't have "massive improvements on defense". Not yet any way. We just have names. Hasn't everyone in here watched the league enough to know that every single year teams throw a bunch of Dream Team-ish type "names" together.... and all this hype starts, but when the games start, the conglomeration of names simply don't play well together? I mean...that's why they invented the phrase "looks good on paper"

Look at our own division rival Philly. Destroyed KC en route to one of the most dominant SB wins in history... and then next year, with most of the same players, with every pundit saying they by far had the most talented roster, went out and just didn't play well together last year.

Names don't make a team.

As simple as it sounds, the best teams, are good at playing team football.

So que all the injury excuses you want....but this team hasn't played good team football consistently for decades. Yet.. people STILL make assumptions based on what they see on paper

I think it really comes down to how well the defensive additions/changes translate to gametime success. We should be better at stopping the run now. Will a Downs-led secondary be able to maintain their assignments and prevent us from getting torched like last year? If yes, and we end up middle of the pack defense or better then we at least make the playoffs.

But one offseason aint enough to fix our defense. We still need a bonafide pass rush and a general at LB. Could use another consistent CB as well.
 
Offense will be good. Defense will be much better. Best kicker in the league. Soft as butter culture plus a clown head coach plus a tougher division means 8 or 9 wins.

Yes we do. These are not the dream names you're referring to, we've added good solid players. It's not about looking good on paper, these are proven NFL players. If you can't see the massive improvement, that's on you.

If the O falls apart and the D is top 15, then yes, the D massively improved.
 
I am expecting a much better defense, better offense, or more consistent.
They should be able to get into the playoffs.
I am hoping they can win the division, but just a hope there.
