Is Shemar James an option to start at MLBer?

I really think Barham is going to turn out to be one of our best picks in this draft. Obviously, I can't prove that, but I feel that he only ended up being taken in the third round because of his coach's decision to move him to end because of need. He spent most of last season learning how to be an end while he was on his way to becoming one of the top linebackers in this draft if he had been kept at that position. From everything I've read and seen, his tape from 2024 at linebacker was much better than his tape from 2025 at end.

James needs to have a good camp/preseason to make the team. The only locks are dmo, winters and Barham

But I don't see him as a middle linebacker why is everyone trying to pinhole everyone of our linebackers into can he be the middle linebacker we don't need to specify who's the middle linebacker is right now that's what camp in preseason is for somebody will rise to the top and just in case there's some ball you don't need to be the green dot guy and be the middle linebacker the green dot play calling defender can be anyone we've seen it be safeties before it could still be Caleb Downs..

I believe overshown winters and downs will all share that duty throughout camp but it doesn't matter who the middle linebacker is if that's what people keep thinking that he has to be able to be smart enough to run the defense and call to plays that is not true your middle linebacker used to traditionally be that guy and now it could be anyone on the defense and that's why they cross train that's why they have position flex there'll be three guys that summer long will be practicing wearing that helmet with the communication device in that way if anybody gets injured or not in on certain plays there's got to be somebody else to be able to do it..


To the question at hand I think James will fit in somewhere he definitely was throwing into a bad situation and I believe he has a skill set to make the team and find a role Probably not as a starter yet but he will probably be more on the weak side, But I have no idea I don't really care I don't think there needs to be labels just put the best duo as starters on off the bottom linebacker and never take the rest of them in and out I really don't care what you call them and I don't think in this defense neither does Parker I think everyone will have a role and it doesn't matter if it's traditional or not..

He's been getting reps so he's an option but I think he's the 3rd option right now. I would give Overshown & Barham the nod over him currently. Barham might just be the early down Mike with Overshown the nickel guy.

In this defense there's going to be probably four linebackers on the field at the same time 2 off the ball linebackers so those two above might be playing a lot together yes with winters in and out Like I don't think this defense is gonna have specific labels this is not gonna matter who's the middle linebacker who's the weak side linebacker who's the nickel guys are because this is gonna be more like Dan Quinn used his guys a lot of position flex Whenever the offense looks over there in the center and the quarterback are trying to figure out who's who they might be wrong a lot that is why they will utilize guys in multiple areas on the field But this is more gonna be a base 43 with different looks but that means there's probably going to be the two outside linebackers and 2 off the ball linebackers on the field quite a bit..

But then yes they will rotate guys in and out and I'm sure James will find a role but right now he's gonna be fighting for backup spots for sure special teams..
