Spagnola: Gary is Just what the Doctor Ordered

You don't like him or you wouldn't cry that he's a "loudmouth."

Your logic is based on the idea that they couldn't have acquired the same players without trading Micah. That only applies to Lawrence.

The proof that your logic is wrong is simply dollars and cents. They have $5.5m cap space right now. Subtract Lawrence ($3.7) and extend or restructure QW (~$14m) - forget Pickens or even Gary - and you've created enough cap space to add Micah's cap hit ($19m). Takes 30 seconds of math.
And ‘this is your logic?
6, that is SIX players for the price of ONE. count the draft picks.

See I almost believe you except for this it happens all around the league Deandre Hopkins about three or four years ago they couldn't find a trade partner he was cut from Arizona outright and picked up from someone else and went on to still have plenty of his career left.. He played in a SB with Kansas City,

I know they couldn't find a trade partner.. Then what did they do , OH, I guess they pulled a Jerry and just outright cut him happens a lot, i'm not going to see here while I'm too busy this afternoon and give you every example but other teams do the same thing...

Which by the way don't bring up Amari Cooper because at least we got a 5th round pick for him saved nearly $22 million in salary instead of cutting him like Deandre Hopkins and got zero for him and ate 22M in dead cap, Only to watch the same player they cut they couldn't find a trade partner for end up at least making the Super Bowl..hmmm

When you use the word, it only happens only the word only puts you in a bind because you have nowhere to go and then when somebody can give you even one example that you're wrong,

you're wrong..:muttley::popcorn::oldcouple:
Actually I know other teams do it. But that was not my point. If I would have stated that, which I did think about. I am sure you would find fault with it still.
However Jerry does it or seems to do it more than my other team. Which was my point. As most fans would disregard the others teams as well.

So Hopkins, maybe another player here and there. But not as widespread as you are trying to make it out to be.

This might be accurate but let’s not blame parsons for a cheap owner issue.

The reason this defense hasn’t been very good the last couple years is on the shoulders of the GM, not the star edge rusher.
not gonna argue with you on that

...I think Jerry, won another deal.
Jerry got lucky, and yes, I feel he won the trade. Somebody in this organization made this trade it was not Jerry all by his self. This was a game changer for Dallas great trade, big win for Dallas and they are a better team because of it. Big Q, Clark, Gary and Lawrence for Parsons and a 2nd and a 4th is a Dallas trade win all day long. Defensive tackle has been made a major strength, this was a weak position in Dallas for way to long and Gary is a wily vet and a good football player. If Lawrence becomes a good contributor that will be icing on the cake.

Ha ok, which other lol?
If Dallas can catch fire and win a Super Bowl with the help of this trade it could be talked about as being the best since the Herchel Walker trade. It was Jimmy Johnson back in the day, and it makes me wonder who made the move with this trade, Ol Jerry ain't the mastermind.

Dallas Cowboys are better trading Parsons and making the moves as has turned out. The object is to be better with trading Parsons and acquiring players at positions of need. Mission accomplished
Based on what exactly? The Cowboys had the worst defense in years, giving up 31 points per game. They didn't make the playoffs and won fewer games than they lost. I am not sure how anyone at this point can say the Cowboys won - or lost - this trade. This season will tell us a lot about this trade. Let's see what happens.

Based on we haven't received yet the full trade value of the trade.so I agree in your statement "Let's see what happens but we won the trade

Gary is an above average player who is aging. We know this right? He is nothing more than a bridge to real difference makers.

Here’s the net, the way I see it. Please correct me if wrong….

Dallas gives up:

Micah Parsons
2026 second
2027 fourth

Dallas gets:

Quinnen Williams
Kenny Clark
Rashan Gary
Malachi Lawrence
Whoever they would have lost by paying Parsons.
I would agree except for the "whoever they would have lost by paying Parsons" part. Parsons' cap hit this year is $19 million. Clark's renegotiated cap hit is $13 million. Williams' cap hit this year is $21.7 million.

Next year Parsons' cap hit is $26 million, Clark's is $22. Williams' is $26.

All these people keep pointing to Parsons' making $ 47 million per year when really it is a 4 year $98.3 million contract with an out after 2028 that would save the Packers $50 million in cap space. So at the end of the day Parsons' contract is not even $25 million per year.

There was no one we lost because basically gave 80% of that money this year and last year to Clark. Great reallocation of money, but it wasn't in addition to all the people you listed.

Not saying it wasn't a good trade but can we stop acting like we saved a ton over money by not giving Parsons the same contract the Packers did?

That’s difficult to disagree with given this front office, but it would have been one less large contract they gave out at a minimum, no? I think they’d have lost a minimum of one player and/or not pursued Thompson. It’s impossible to know but I do get your point.

I’m sorry but considering how awful DT was for so long, the proof being getting bashed up the middle by good teams, I make that trade all day, even if Lawrence is only meh. I’ll take the upside.

Honestly that trade was really the base of my renewed enthusiasm, even if we all know that was not what they originally wanted to do.
100% agree

Yup. Drafting guys like Jaylon, Schoonmaker, Kelvin, Mazi in early rounds is why our D sucks. I know there's draft misses, I do, but these guys were easily analyzed as bad draft picks before we even drafted them.

And the year before with Parsons we gave up 27.5. Wasn't some precipitous dropoff.

It's a welcome change. Parsons was a rare talent, but this team cannot draft DTs. The best in recent memory was Osa and you'd have to go back to Maliek Collins in 2016 before him. Otherwise it's been Trysten Hills and Mazi Smiths and John Ridgways.

Quinnen and Clark can be this team's best DT duo since Lett and Maryland in 1995.
