Steele struggles continue

They extended him.before injury.

He just never recovered. His apss protection was average to above average and he never got his mobility back. He can't step to the right and has a Choppy, life the foot and stump move to the right and doesn't slide any more. He doesn't even move to the left.
They extended him after the injury.

And yet Steele remains better than Guyton. That’s the problem. We have two issues at OT. One issue is much more easily fixable. At least Steele is good in the run game. Guyton has so far been horrible in both the run and pass game

This FO is content to keep trying to win with two undeserving OTs. Their leadership is non-existent. There's evidently no inclination to replace them with better players. Yet, they keep them active and failing to be effective. They prefer to keep blind eyes to the problem, hoping for miracles. It's simply beyond sad to run a pro football team that way. Yet, they wonder why their players don't respond.

Initially, I was most concerned with how Guyton would play at left tackle, but recent reports indicate he’s playing well.

Now the focus shifts to worrying about Steele at right tackle. And reports indicate he’s playing is NOT playing well.

And I don’t see a viable alternative currently on the roster.

I hope the team realizes this and does something about it.

Ah, yes. Dak has had a few stinker games every year. CeeDee has had some dropsies and Pickens flat out quit a couple games last year.

So why dont we talk about that? Instead we pick on a RT who has been very serviceable and has been called the best run blocker Zack Martin ever played with.

Oh, and Guyton who everyone with any foresight new was a couple years away when he was drafted.

Ive said over and over again, a good defense gets us a shot. Only a consistently good Dak will get us to a SuperBowl.
You don’t think getting at least league average tackle play would go a long way in getting a more consistently good Dak?

Steele had a down year last year. In 2024 he was close to top 10 in run blocking. 20s in pass pro.

So what was different last year? Oh, maybe a rookie guard playing next to him? I think Booker being better this year will help Steele.

Plus, Steele just doesnt miss games. Outside of the knee injury, he is always available.

You cant keep sinking 1st round picks into the oline. Steele will be fine. And they are trying to develop some backups.

He is our fifth best OL. Unless there’s a star RT available, or unless someone on the roster is better, you ride with him. There aren’t many NFL teams whose 5th best lineman is better than Steele.

yeah he was getting beat by our pass rushers too so no surprise, the sad part is we have no other option at RT since Shelton is extremely raw.
Our run game would be affected negatively in a huge way if Shelton were to start at ORT.

.... at some point they should take a chance on Shelton, and get those wheels turning. Season hinges on Dak staying healthy.
Shelton is a year away. His shoulder injury hindered the weight training needed to gain the strength required to play in the NFL.

Not really. Steele is a horrific Pass Blocker. Guyton has shown signs of being viable as a pass blocker. Steele is only better than Guyton as a run blocker.

Well everybody is worried about the tackles this year,

I'm sure the coaches are keeping an eye on it I mean everyone was worried about Guyton and I'm sure he's still not perfect but it looks like they may just have to play the rookie maybe Nate Thomas or somebody else over there Like we'll see if someone something else rises to the top and preseason games 'cause really it's the games Are they gonna play the tackles in the preseason games or are they the some of the starters that are not going to play II think you have to play them just to see how they go against live competition real competition not scrimmages not practice...

I guess you have to replace the lesser of two evils and maybe it's the right side versus where people thought they might be the left side but they can't do both..

Even taking a pay cut, Steele has the 13th-highest cap hit for RT in the NFL, hardly what you want to pay for an adequate backup.

But you are correct the cap hit if we cut him (post June 1st) is actually a quarter million dollars more than keeping him.
Yeah never meant it made great business sense. Just that it was salvagable. Could of been worse had he not taken the pay cut.

Both are Jerry’s pets.

He is stubborn.

Doesn’t like to admit he was wrong.

We all have our favorites, but they all leave eventually.

It’s in the best interests of the team to replace both players.

I mean at least they've got defensive tackles.

Don't really need no offensive tackles cuz in their eyes the current guys are good enough.

And THATS the problem.

Cowboys!

13th really isn’t that bad considering most lower on the list are rookie contracts. Steele is a low end veteran starter and is paid as one at $11m per. I wish he were a stronger player for sure, but he’s probably paid fairly.
