Lack of Tackle Depth!

Just be adequate. I didn’t expect them to move on from Guyton but saving the Steele salary and replacing him with a stop gap veteran would not have been a bad idea.

They’ll end up paying for it one way or another.

Didn't we just free up a nice chunk of capspace? if we aint gonna use it to get a passrusher, i wonder if we can get Decker.
It’s not a matter of cap space. They either have it or can create it. It’s a matter of wanting to use it.

They used a first on Guyton and gave Steele a big contract. They aren’t ready to admit failure on either.

It also takes two to tango. I don’t believe Decker is in any hurry to sign, and will likely do so with a team that suffered an injury and he can likely start.

I don’t blame him. If he wants another 2-3 one year deals before quitting, sitting on someone’s bench isn’t going to help…and again, this is when Stephen is really cheap. He probably has Decker at like 3m for a year when he will probably get closer to triple that.

I’m pumped over the new faces on this team but it’s definitely tempered by the OT situation.

oh no if im going after Decker, then Guyton is moving to RT and Steele is becoming the swing. Im also giving him 2 year deal spread out over 3 years. Decker instantly becomes the 2nd best OT we have had since Flozell.

I don’t hate that but I don’t know if moving Guyton right now is the move, and I certainly wouldnt expect them to, especially if the reports of progress are accurate.

I just want Decker here before he signs elsewhere. I mean, please….pleeeeas don’t count on Shelton to play meaningful snaps this year. Please!

We heard about Steele's struggles yesterday in the joint practices, this is nothing new. He is what he is, a good run blocker that is maxed out as a poor pass protector. Doesn't mean that cannot succeed with him as a starter, Doug Free had a similar skill set. Good news is that Guyton appears to be having a strong camp, his biggest concern can he stay healthy?

Also have heard that Bass is getting a lot of snaps with the 1's at LG. This could mean that Tyler Smith might be the team's #3 Tackle if they decide to use their 5 best lineman.

Thomas reportedly has taken a step back this season and Shelton needs to get stronger. Haven't heard much about 2nd year tackle Cornellius.
I'd say right now that Smith would have to step in if Guyton failed or went down. I'm not sure what we'd do on the right side.

Depth, there really isnt any at the moment. They were saying Thomas has been so bad he didnt look like an NFL player on G Bag yesterday. Shelton doesnt look ready. Watch roster cuts in a few weeks as maybe a likely add spot.
Thomas seems to be following the path Asim Richards took. I thought Richards was going to battle for the starting LT spot after Tyron left, but he just fell off tremendously. We wanted a better OL coach and actually got two of them, but sometimes it's just about the talent on hand.

Guyton reportedly has worked on both sides in camp. Agree, if he goes down Tyler would replace him

I think Tyler Smith alot of RT. I actually think it would be his best position. He could be dominant in both phases. Wont happen though

Forgot about Richards. That’s three recent mid round OT that they could barely get on the field.

Fine, but don’t go telling me that Shelton is going to be ready to contribute this year.

PFF has our Oline at 17 going into the season. With a lot of room for improvement if Guyton steps up.

1. Denver
2. Philly
10. SanFran
11. LAR
13. NE
15. Seattle
20. Cinci
23. Giants
24. Balt
27. Houston
28. GB

17. Dallas Cowboys

LT: Tyler Guyton
LG: Tyler Smith
C: Cooper Beebe
RG: Tyler Booker
RT: Terence Steele

The Cowboys could quite easily have the best interior offensive line in football in 2026. Left guard Tyler Smith has earned PFF grades above 70.0 in all four of his NFL seasons so far, while right guard Tyler Booker led all rookie guards with a 72.0 PFF grade. The question marks are on the outside, particularly at left tackle. Tyler Guyton did show some signs of improvement in his second season in the league, with his PFF grade improving from 49.4 as a rookie to 57.5 last year, but there is still a lot of improvement needed.

If Guyton shows improvement and Booker makes his 2nd year jump, we will be fine. Not elite, but it could shake out as near the top 10. More than enough to win.

I guess in GB they are just throwing in the towel?

I would think that would be our best option if something were to happen to Steele. Guyton is more familiar with right tackle than he is with left tackle. Some act like if you can play one, then it is easy to play the other, but it's a lot like learning to do something right-handed then suddenly switching to doing it left-handed.
