Preseason Game 2 reactions (and overreactions)

Just off the top of my head:

Stock Up: Joe Milton, Jonathan Mingo, Jaydon Blue, Jaishawn Barham, LT Overton, Shavon Revel, Zack Kuntz

Stock Down: Devin Moore, Nate Thomas, Marist Liufau, Sam Howell
I was able to notice some things in this game that I did not in the previous one….like the basic structure of the defense. It looks to me as if they are going to ask Liufau and Williams to cover a lot. I’m so sure they are cut out for that, especially the former.

Almost shocking how much better Milton looks, but I would stay with Howell as the two. If Dak goes down, they’ll need them both.

They are probably going to have to keep Mingo. How?

Shame about Thomas. It’s right there in front of him and can’t reel it in.

The best news is that Jerry must be living right lately, since some of these trades don’t look so bad any longer….and did they get a Fred Warner with the pick they got for Osa? Ok maybe I oughta quit there lol.

I am guessing they need to make room for six receivers at this point: Lamb, Pickens, Flournoy, Turpin, Mingo, and Brown. Mingo can play special teams so they are probably putting Brown on the game day inactive list unless an injury occurs.

I honestly don't think they played him
That could be.

The downside of playing a guy like him is his play would be on tape for other teams to see. If they have little or nothing to go on, he is less likely to be claimed.

There are more candidates than chairs at a few positions but that’s a good thing.

They really have to loosen up some roster rules. Teams should be able to keep players that they spent all offseason developing.

Most teams have that situation though. They want to keep their own guys, but a team like Miami might just grab a guy with high upside, like Trigg.

Exactly, and that's why I think they're using the toe injury as an excuse to try to sneak him onto the PS

Milton looks like a 1st round pick. The difference from last year is night and day. He's extending plays, stepping into throws, using anticipation and throwing beautiful passes. If he were playing in college he'd be setting the conference on fire. We may have Dak's successor.
I am thinking schotty and our QB coach have helped him out a lot this offseason.

I especially agree with this... what is with the roster rules anyway? What is their reasoning for only allowing 53 players with only 48(+1) dressing out and not say... 60 with 52 or more?

anyway, if the starters play as good as the backups against their peers, we might be looking at a good team this year.

Well, that wraps things up for preseason game 2. I suppose now it's time for the forum's Preseason Game 2 reactions (and overreactions). The Cowboys are 2-0.........sort of, it's preseason so the records don't really count, but I'd rather see 2-0 instead of 0-2 anyway lol.

I think the first thing for me is that, it's not just a preseason 2-0.....it's been a dominant 2-0 for our depth. I'm aware that the Cardinals are terrible. But, the same depth pieces also dominated the Seattle depth. So, I'm inclined to think that our depth is actually decent.

Barsham and Revel looked AWESOME. I think Milton solidified himself as the QB2. I can't wait to see our starting offense and starting defence play together. Who'd have thought that last year? What a difference an offseason and proper coaching can have!

All in all, well done to the coaches. I know it's vanilla, and I know it's preseason. But I'm delighted at how dominant we've looked the last two preseason games. It's encouraging to me.
OK here's my take,

The running backroom It's convoluted right now I think all the backups right now could be RB 2 , It's that close I don't know how they're gonna breakdown the room but I know one thing they don't need to go outside the damn organization these guys can get it done with William starting and then you find good rotational reps for all of them IIII don't know how you're stashing one of them either I like Israel blue and Mafa but Davis is clearly if I had to start a game today he beat my RB2. It's on the same path as Rico Dowdell it took a while but every time he's in there he does something.. I mean they're trying to push the guy out and he keeps saying I'm not going anywhere just like Rico..

I know this is going to be a hot topic but everyone keeps talking about trig You know the big project tight end and he's gonna take the place of somebody and there's no way you're gonna stash him on the practice squad you know what you're gonna have to because Koops I don't know where this guy came from but this dude is just looks the part of a TE2, Yes I know Ford has that lock down but right now this kids just been playing steady and he's just come out of nowhere and I don't want to overreact but that is what this thread's about he will take somebody's job and some of y'all who love trig, Gonna be disappointed..

That's also a tough room but I think that your TE 2 it's gonna be hard because I think they're all so close and yes including Ford I know he's most likely to be that guy Man these cut downs are going to be really tough because of how close some of these guys are..

Oh yeah Barham he's living up to his billing I know we're not talking about him being a Pro Bowler or winning Defensive player of the Year as a rookie but he's everything I thought he was during draft day He's been doing it all camp all scrimmages and now his first live action in preseason game yeah it's just a preseason game it doesn't matter he looks the same is the videos I watched from his Maryland and Michigan stops..

I like him II like the physicality he reminds me of Brady James.. That's not a knock I think Brady James is very underrated if you watch Brady James highlight reels from his career that is exactly what you want a big bodied linebacker that can chase guys down that can shed blocks but also take on blocks and that just seems to always be where you're supposed to we need that at linebacker...

Yes I realize Milton looked like he's starting to get it and he might be the QB2 but it's not necessary they're gonna keep all three Which one can you stash I don't know maybe you can keep bringing back Sam Howell like you did Will Grier or when you were stashing Cooper Rush and cutting them and bringing them back I don't know but if we had to have a long reliever that had to start five games why Prescott was hurt when you want the veteran to do it I mean the season if it was on the line I think I might trust Sam Howell more Of course Milton has more upside...

Especially when they continue to add games.

I think the general idea is what the players union prefers. Less control of players provides more of an opportunity. Players can’t so easily be stashed on one teams PS while they could have had an opportunity on another teams active roster.

I also don’t know why they don’t allow teams to dress a third QB. I realize the emergency thing, but that’s kinda weak.

Anyway I’d like to see them address this the way they did the IR rules, which were terrible forever.

Nice comp on Davis/Dowdle. Seems about right and they’ve gotta go with Davis. He always has to earn but usually does. His burst is there. Blue should dress and get some snaps in the right spots. I’m still trying to figure out where Lupke fits in. I love the idea of a fullback but I don’t see them going that route at all.

I don’t what they are gonna do about TE. I wish the starter was a little more explosive, but the 2-5 situation is pretty solid. Schoon is gonna always take a beating, but he is a solid backup. The TEs on this team don’t need to be studs.

I like Sam Howell a lot, and Miltons dramatic improvement almost makes me sort of want to beleive that the season may not be completely lost if Dak goes down.

There’s usually some guys they want to keep but initially cut. I suppose that’s some handshake deal and they know they will be retained after the 53 is set. Or is it 55 now?

I can't edit it now but I meant Kuntz But my PC spell checker would not let me spell correct and it was trying to spell it a word that gets blocked out oh well.. I like this tight end I mean he has something he's six foot he 255 pounds and he seems to catch balls in traffic maybe I'm overreacting but that is what this is about..
