The Unique Fun of a Regular Season Game Day Thread

Very pre-occupied during the game, but I will always go into the gameday thread and read most of it, and the post-game thread is where I get my therapeutic thoughts out lol... you guys are telling the truth though... time flies way too fast as the years go on just means you need to enjoy your peace and sanity on gameday and make sure nothing gets in the way of that!

We are less than 3 weeks from the start of real football that counts! Best time of year starts in September and all the speculation and hope we all have for the season begins to be tested.

One of the wildest roller coaster rides you can ever see on this great forum is watching the ups and downs of a regular season Game Day thread. It’s almost as good as a stand up comedian as long as you don’t take any of it too seriously.

It’s like being in a giant restaurant watching your favorite team with hundreds of other Cowboy fans either screaming with joy or demanding the firing of a coach….on each play! Sometimes it seems like we need a counselor hotline available…and that’s just for the first three and out!

So just for fun, here are some guaranteed funny moments on a Game Day thread that are as predictable as a sunrise:

• If our offense has a three and out, you will see, “This is the worst offense I’ve ever seen. Schotty sucks. Get a real play caller in here.” “Game over.” “We may not score.”
• If we score on the next possession, “Great call!” “What a drive.” “Unstoppable”.
• If our opponent scores first, “Here we go. Game over.” “Parker is a joke”, “Get a real DC in here Jerry.”
• If Dak throws a TD or an INT, a war begins between those who believe DP is “the worst QB ever to wear the Star” and those saying, “He’s better than ____”, and then the middle school cafeteria food fight begins and some people have to be benched or locked out. No middle ground for a lot of folks.
• If we win…”Super Bowl.” “This team is different.” “We will run the table.” A bunch of “I told you so” comments.
• If we lose…”I knew this team was a joke.” “Fire everyone.” And…a bunch more “I told you so” comments.

Game Day threads are a great way to enjoy the games, hang with fellow Cowboys fans, and hopefully enjoy the game more. And it can be really fun if we all keep our heads…wait a minute…who am I kidding?


Regular season will be here soon and I can’t wait. Go Cowboys!

The gameday chat is usually where I hang out. The actual forum thread sometimes brings out the worst in people

The chat tends to be more focused on football.

The biggest opportunity we have is when people with over the air antennae inadvertently spoil the action because they see it before dish/cable get it. Streaming feeds are even further behind.

I cut the cord this year and use a streaming service so I may not be able to hang in the chat, which will be a bummer

I love reading the gameday threads after the game,i get to wrapped up in the game to bother trying to read or write comments,to much work..lol

I'm only 45 (which is young compared to the lot of yuh), but it's insane how quick 3 weeks goes by now. I almost wish it was still 2 months away, because the season will be halfway through before you know it. Also, Garrett sucks.

Time goes by quicker the older you get.

I just can't help getting into the gameday threads. There is some kind of orbit to them that I just can't escape. If I'm at home, I find it fun just sharing the experience with other fans. And while, yes, the mood swings can be an absolutely insane pendulum, they're also pretty damn entertaining. But there's something genuinely fun and human about experiencing the game with everyone else.
Even if I'm not at home and I see a really good or really bad play, I'll find myself opening my phone and running to the thread just to see everyone's reactions.

I stay out of them because it brings out the absolute WORST in the fans

If the other team gets ONE singular YARD they erupt into “fire everyone, we suck, 30 years”

Yup. The comments are incredibly bad in the game day threads.

I completely understand. As a mod, I’m “on duty” sometimes on those Game Day threads, and they can be funny, or fun, sometimes predictable, sometimes too venomous. Never boring.

But I get it. Not a lot of analysis or logic usually found on those threads. Just raw fandom.

Yup, I don't miss that from my Mod days on the old site.

Garrett represents a decade hoping for the best for my Cowboys but never achieving the ultimate goal. Wasted years indeed.

But here we are, heading into Fall once again. The eternal optimist that I am, has me looking forward to yet another Cowboys season, full of hope and the potential of a Super Bowl season.

One of the funniest things that happens on the Gameday thread is when a call goes against the Cowboys, “the refs are clearly paid off”.

Despite the fact that the Cowboys have been the recipient of calls in the upper 1/3 of the league almost each year. Yes the Cowboys get penalized a lot, but they have often led the league in pre-snap penalties (which are not “judgement calls)

To some it’s not even possible that a Cowboys player is holding or dropped a pass. Conversely, our opponents are holding on every play; in fact cheating in some way every play.

It’s true - the word fan is derived from the word “fanatic”.

People feel the need to do things like that and it’s not possible to actually discuss anything meaningful during the game.

Usually I try to follow and just give up.

I’d actually revamp the format but I don’t see that happening. Again, the traffic can’t be a bad thing for the house and I respect that.

I stay out of the game day threads except for half time. You can’t watch the game and be reading and creating content at the same time.

It does help and give some context to folks who cant see it on real time though and ive always appreciated the fans that do it as it helps those of us that work weekends, nights and holidays get some good info.

The internet game trackers help but our fans do a real service to us with their descriptions

Eh, it's just people wanting to participate. Short message or long winded essay like Blueblood. It's all good in my opinion. Plenty of time to break down the details in post game topics that move slower.

But the Garrett era was arguably the closet this franchise has come to breaking thru on multiple occasions with him as OC and HC.

The fact is was best of this era ( 4 divisional round appearances, 3 playoff wins. ) punctuates this downtrodden era with only one playoff win and divisional round appearance outside Garrett era.

Jethro represents an Era + (30 years) and counting of hoping for the best while taking a more apathetic attitude.
