TRADED Cowboys trade for OT Broderick Jones

As a fan, dont like the trade.

He’s a one year rental at best. And a bust.

IMHO, this problem needed fixed in the draft.

They passed on Lomu and Trost.

Who says you can't extend him??????

After watching this video....makes me think maybe the Cowboys are doing this deal as insurance for left tackle....and admitting that Shelton was a mistake.

He is not a bust. He has 38 starts I believe and was their starting LT before neck injury and spinal fusion surgery. While active in camp, he is still trying to regain weight and strength. It will take time, but he may be our best option at swing tackle right now due to his experience, and as he works himself back into top shelf, he may provide great competition at RT.

I honestly think that Jerrah was feeling his wild oats and perhaps his Johnnie Walker when he made this trade. Most people, including me, have been positive about Dallas' offseason.

However, trading for a guy who Pittsburgh couldn't wait to offload, and hoping that after four years (a) the light goes on, and (b) he's physically up to the task despite spinal fusion surgery, makes no sense to me. This isn't at all analagous to the Pickens situation. The Steelers decided (incorrectly, IMO) that he was a head case they just didn't want to deal with. Completely different than a flat-out bust with a terrible medical history.

One theme that's been mentioned a lot is that 'there's a tackle shortage in the NFL'. Well, there's a good tackle shortage in the NFL. We're talking here about somebody capable of handling the swing tackle position, not an All-Pro. I think there is a far better alternative than Jones out there. As an Iggles' fan, might I point out Fred Johnson? Did a solid job filling in for Lane Johnson last year. By no means an all-pro, but a solid swing tackle, he's had that role in Philly the past two years. The Birds drafted (in the 3rd round, ironically) a man-monster out of Miami in Markel Bell. There is talk in Philly that Fred Johnson could be moved and that Bell could be given that spot.

My point (and I think that I have one) is that this move from Jerrah was made hastily out of a sense of panic. I think there were far better options out there at likely less of a cost. He should have at least waited to see what was out there before casting his lot with somebody who has 'bust' written all over him. I'm calling it now--this trade will prove to be a waste of resources for Dallas.

They did the deal because they didn't want to go in a bidding process with other teams

I was hoping to see we sent Steele to Steel City.

Big cap hit to do that. His cap hit is $8.7 million, but his bonuses would cost us more than $20 million if we traded him.

Besides, I'd rather have the two competing, best man wins, because Jones isn't much better than Steele (if he is at all) at this point.

For me this sounds like Guyton 2.0, doesn’t it? Independent of him being a left or right tackle it hasn’t klicked yet for him, so that he translates his excellent physical profile to on court performance.

we swapped our 3rd for their 4th and we got as tackle out of it. Oh my.... thats it, we are doomed for the next decade giving up that kind of draft capital.
