Hard truth about Overshown

I felt he got by early on with his athletic ability than the ability to diagnose the play. Had a few splash plays early on where he looked faster than Parsons chasing the QB which was impressive, but outside of those plays, he just seemed alright. More of a specialty player or you give him one goal and let him be the QB spy under Quinn.
Think the injuries hurt in multiple ways. Probably sapped him of his athletic ability, mental blocks and well of course missing valuable time actually on the field, whether it be the practice or stadium.

thing is, he's going to come back and make just enough plays for us to give him one of those "team friendly" michaeal Gallup/Terrence steel kind of deals!. If i'm the Cowboys, your best ability is your AVAILABILITY!!!!!!!
Coogs, apparently Stephen Jones puts less emphasis on player “availability” and more emphasis on how cheap he can keep them.

He can't stay healthy. He's not a starter. He looks like a gunner on special teams to me. He isn't the answer. We now know that.
Actually they're utilizing him wrong I get it whatever is being said is somewhat true but he shouldn't be a middle linebacker he shouldn't be brought through the middle he should be more of an outside linebacker a weak sideline backer The guy has skills he's fast but Sean Lee couldn't stay healthy either are we gonna mock him too everyone claimed he was one of the best to ever play he's not gonna take on a 300 pound fullback with a 250 pound running back that's like a fullback with speed in that game it was like tackling allstot twice.. They met a freight train they tried I saw him grab Scataboo the one time he was bringing him down by himself and his help got there late this dude can play football when healthy but yes like Sean Lee like Lve what we like to make a big list of guys who couldn't stay healthy but don't tell me he can't play football and that he's only a special teams player that is why you said Gunner that would be outside he should be turned into an outside linebacker where he could do pass rush support the run but doesn't have to meet head on in the hole That I will concede..

To say he's only a special teams player dude don't get me started just don't He can play football if he's utilized properly and I think they will figure that out but that game the way they had the run game going they were a physical up front they used a offensive lineman as a fullback and then you have this big dude that can get ahead of steam going that doesn't go down come through there and it looked bad game one yes but I've seen him play football since college As a Longhorn fan he can play but he needs to stay on the weak side But in my opinion he should be one of the outside linebackers he should be turned into a pass rusher much like Parsons parsons would have never survived at an off the ball linebacker in the NFL and that's the hard truth Is that what we want the hard truth the coaches are using him wrong he has the talent the speed and the instincts he just can't be in the middle all the time.. To say middle linebacker but he can't be in there trying to play the A and B gaps all the time He needs to be brought to the outside very soon I think they'll figure that out Parker I don't believe we'll just keep using him like that..

It always sucks seeing a player with that much potential always getting hurt, but unfortunately, sometimes the body just doesn’t cooperate. That’s the brutal reality of the NFL. We’ve seen plenty of talented guys come and go because they simply couldn’t stay healthy. As much as it sucks, Dallas has to start thinking about the future and what that looks like without him.

Well I can get on board with the outside linebacker idea. He doesn't have the chops to be inside. Your right. But can he stay healthy? When will he stop over pursuing and missing reads? I know he's not the lone ranger on the latter. Seems to be a team problem going back several years now.

Agreed. I hope we don't "LVE" him in re-signing him to 1 deals over trying someone new. Maybe he'll get lucky and stay healthy, but he's been hurt every year here. Time to wish him the best and move on.

I’m still amazed at how often this franchise has chosen players with an injury history like this. It’s a dice roll you should have do with players in the 7th round or UFA.

This organization has made more risky injury picks than any team I’ve seen in sports. It’s a dice happens here probably because the guys doing the picking know they have no repercussions if they fail.

Most GMs in all pro sports don’t take chances like this with premium draft picks because they can’t lose their job over it. Funny how that works.
They often try to steal first round talent. “Would have been if not for ____” Meanwhile the blank is usually the problem.

Either that or those are the only names Jerry can recall from past drafts. No need to follow up with how they progressed as a pro, just go by draft grade, which could NOT have possibly been wrong. Not them.

I think in general, they reach for guys that have an upside as a starter in every round if minor miracles happen. This leaves them with boom or bust at a low success rate, so now you don’t even have viable backups.

I do still feel as if that’s changed a bit, but it’s not going to take effect immediately.

No they just need to change his assignments I believe he is a perfect guy to play on the outside as an outside linebacker he needs to stop having to meet a 600# in the hole because that's not his game it's speed and instincts and he has that and I think they'll fix that he doesn't need to be an off the ball linebacker any more than Parsons was..

You believe sometimes the coaches and the owner need to wake up and know the hard truth and this guy should have been the guy not Liafu or some other projects they had oversh can play in a 34 outside linebacker position and be more of a pass rusher a guy on the outside doesn't have to meet guys in the hole all the time That's the truth that's the hard truth i'm telling you he can play getting a hammy or getting his leg rolled up on those are just bad luck

That was a tough game for game one He has a tweak in his hamstring, and you all are acting like he's injury prone because an athlete got a tweaked hamstring you are just ridiculous..

Yes it's the NFL big boys playing the NFL they get injured he's not injury prone but he needs to be protected from himself and I believe he needs to be an outside linebacker I really believe that should be his role...

The dreaded P word gets coaches and scouts fired. Potential means the play hasn't achieved anything yet. May never.

To be fair to Overshown, none of our linebackers look good except Barham. Winters looked mighty bad too.

Demarvion Overshown was drafted in the 3rd round in 2023. A guy with great speed at LB, and a desire engine that ran high. He would have been drafted in earlier rounds that year had he not had a problematic injury history.

How bad was Overshown’s injury history? Let’s start with his 5 years at Univ of Texas:
  • Between 2018 and 2022, the Longhorns played in 64 games including post season. He played in 50 of those 64 games.
  • That was about 78% availability. Not great, but certainly better than his pro availability.
Since he was drafted in 2023, here is Overshown’s availability history in Dallas:
  • He has played in 19 of the 52 regular season games he could have played in since his arrival in Big D.
  • That is an availability rate of about 37%. Ouch.
  • After his hamstring injury Sunday night in NY, he will be missing at least one game and maybe two.
Overshown is a hard working, committed young man. No one can question his heart or work ethic. He has twice worked through terrible knee injuries to return to the field. I feel bad for the young man’s luck with injuries.

But as the old saying goes, the first ability every professional athlete MUST have is availability. With an availability rate of 37%, we cannot keep holding a roster spot for a player who is constantly injured.

That may sound cold hearted but if we are committed to turning this thing around, you have to make hard decisions like this. Overshown is in a contract year. If I were the Cowboys FO, this would be his last year here.
If you keep Overshown around you pay him like a depth piece, and plan on him spot playing as a reserve. You cannot pay him and plan on him as a starter.

I would move on if I were the Cowboys, simply because he hasn’t shown a lot even when he has been on the field.

I'm gonna do it i'm gonna be same old blue Here comes the big letters with fancy font and color

he is not injury prone, having a guy roll up on the back of his leg last year whatever it was in a big pile is football that's accidental bad luck, and now all of a sudden we're exaggerating about a hamstring tweak?!!!!!

in game one with the first full contact game of the year, there are a lot of guys with tweaks this week,

Look around the NFL There are a lot of players that have gotten worse than just a hammy..

Barham has the physical traits to eventually be a strong player. We need to draft more players with size, power and speed.

I hear you but when do we stop calling it bad luck?

Yes he can You guys call it major reprone 'cause he had one injury that was non contact you do realize in sport like football when you're in a pile and your leg is locked on the ground and some big 300 pound guy rolls into the back of your leg you're probably going to get injured I would like you to do it would you like to come to my house in the backyard and let's film it and you just stand there and let me go full speed and dive into the back of your legs sideways with your leg being stepped on in the front so it can't move I can promise you you're probably blowing your ACL out too..

Gotta hear me are we exaggerating that now a tweet hamstring is injury prone in the NFL in game one first full 60 minute game with full contact high humidity and he tweets his hamstring and now he's injury prone I'd say he's got a lot of bad luck but again move him outside but with a soft tissue issue that is not being injury prone that is sports Some of y'all probably did that getting out of bed today..lol

He made flash plays prior to the second knee injury. I don't remember any since he came back last season.
No, he wasn't the same after he got back last season of which I wasn't expecting much anyway and this season was going to be the last hard look. But if you're injured straight out of the gate that's an ominous sign. Short of him flashing again after he gets back, we just part ways.
