From now on, I will just expect us to lose every game. Every time Stephen and Jerry speak it's clear they have no idea what they are doing. So why should we expect things to go well?

I reached that point in my fandom a few years ago. I hope for victory but I don't expect it. It's made it much easier on me to tolerate failure without being torn up over it. Hope for the best, expect the worst is my motto, and it helps me sleep at night.

I agree with mostly everything you said. But let me ask you a few honest questions. Are either of the QBs that played in the Super Bowl last year better than Dak? I would argue they are not. Do you think Dak is a better QB than Schotty is a head coach? I would argue he is. Do you think Dak is a better QB than Jerry is a GM? I would argue he is.

Let me also say it took me a while to come around on Dak....and that was after looking at the QB play around the entire NFL and admitting to myself that there is only ONE Patrick Mahommes in the NFL...and we don't have him, so every other organization has to figure it out without Mahomes type QB, and we do too.

So is the real issue Daks salary? Because I think the owner feels as if Daks paycheck means he can cover all the other warts in this organization...and that is NOT how football works. Because even if you take his salary down from $60m a year to $53m a year (because the market is what the market is) nothing about the product we put on the field every Sunday and the results would change.

So my overall pushback is Dak is good enough to win..with the right pieces around him...but that is true for 90% of the QBs in the NFL. And even saying that...look how Mahomes looked when the pieces around him fell off. And I say that knowing full well that Mahomes is better than Dak. Hell, look how Aikman looked when the players, organizational structure, discipline and coaching fell off around him. Troy is probably still having nightmares of Clay Shiver at Center in Dallas.

Disclaimer: I am not a Dak lover or hater. I am a Cowboys fan. And Dak is not at or near the top of the list of what is wrong with the Cowboys. But I get the sentiment "if you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem"

I saw some of the same problems that we had last year under Eberflus, even if we improved the talent. When you are running complex schemes in your first year (particularly zone), it's hard to get everyone on the same page right off the bat. If players have to think too much about where they are supposed to be on a given play, then they are slow to react to it. Defense generally isn't I do this no matter what, it's I do this unless the offense does that, then I do this unless the offense does that, then I do this.

I would expect to see some progress as we go forward, but it's hard to say how much and how quickly. I think the teams that succeed early on defense have an established scheme that the players know or keep their scheme relatively simple and add complexity as the season progresses.

We had a whole lot of players out of position Sunday night. I consider that to be on the coaches.

I learned my lesson once again after last week. Never buy into this team. Assume they will lose, often in embarrassing fashion.

You make some good points however here is how i look at it

Whether we think another QB is better or worse does not really matter, that is too subjective, a QB that got to the SB has shown the ability to lead his team to at least 3 consecutive wins against the top teams in the playoffs. Dak has been in 3-4 different systems and OCs and HCs and has not even been able to win back to back games in the playoffs in 10 years!!!!! 10 years. He does not have to ability to break the cycle and turn it around if the ship is going down

He is also being paid 60 million which limits the team

IMO Dak is “the Jason Garrett of QBs”, he looks and acts the part of a competent QB but can’t produce under pressure. He will keep you ‘competitive’ but never get the team over the hump

At some point it is time to move on

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think I agree with him. I just watched the Lions get smoked by bomb after bomb from Josh Allen. That was the Dallas defense last year. They couldn't stop anyone from scoring at will. The Giants did hold onto the football, but they were slow and methodical. Kudos to their efficiency,. The defense made a couple stops early, but the offense stalled, and slowly the Giants running game wore them down. Not ideal, but not catastrophic.

They allowed 28 points and had some really bad luck with funny bounces. They kept the plays in front of them. The safeties did some great work against the run. Limebackers still nerd alot of work. The corners didn't get roasted, but there were several lapses in coverage. Bad communication. Several new starters and a new DC in a buzz saw Giants stadium following 9/11 remembrance and festivities. It sucked. They need to figure it out. If the problem is communication, that can be corrected. If there's a knowledge gap in the system, it seems the coaches and players are smart enough to figure it out. If they can't, or if there's still a talent deficiency, it's going to be a long season. I'm leaning towards miscommunication and confusion, but we'll see.

I’m in misery? Didn’t know so thanks for the heads up. I was just getting ready to enjoy a full weekend of football completely unaware of my condition.

Relative to what we saw last year, yep, they absolutely kept plays in front of them.

Their longest pass play allowed was 19 yards. Average ypc across all Giants pass catchers was 10.0, with a high of 13.5 from Darnell Mooney...on 2 receptions. Malik Nabors had 6 catches for 69 yards and no scores. Cam Skattebo averaged 4.5 ypc. Not a great look from the defense, but they weren't getting torched on the ground or through the air.

Death by 1,000 cuts sucks to watch, but the inverse of watching a QB drop bombs all day is far worse. At least they gave themselves opportunities to make stops, even if they didn't deliver when it mattered. Several missed opportunities for fumble recoveries and bad communication were the differences in this game. It's something to work with.
