TRADED Porter traded to Cowboys (2027/6th round, 2028/2nd round)

So nothing they ever do will make you happy
Don't know why that is your take on what I said, but whatever.

I'm happy with this move. I'm not happy with how idiotic this front office has been for the past 30 years.

I get that they're slim at corner, but does he even fit the system? I appreciate that they're investing heavily on defense, but I don't see how this moves the needle without a consistent pass rush.
His skills are naturally suited for press coverage because he’s big and physical.

His entire career he’s been playing in Tomlin’s Tampa 2 defense which is a zone.

The main tweak that Tomlin made was that he let Porter play at the line of scrimmage. It was “press zone” coverage but was still a zone with but sork man coverage mixed in, especially when the offense had an elite WR1 like Chase. This allowed Porter to be physical with receivers and jam them

Parker’s (and Fangio’s) defense typically has the CB line up with a bit of cushion and requires the CB to make reads post snaps. We’ll see if Parker tweaks his base scheme to take advantage of Porters specific skills.

He didn’t let Bland play press but Bland kinda sucks now. He might reconsider a bit with a better player at CB1

I was listening to "insert Cowboys YouTube channel that I will respectfully not name" and they said "He's a man corner, he can't play zone."

Uh, what? JPJ is an actual elite corner. He can do both at a high level. Better at man? Sure. Difference is his offense couldn't score points, which made that defense even more terrible. Still elite.

There's about a 100 yards of difference between yards allowed on our defenses last year. Pittsburgh PPG was 23.

Top end FA talent is ridiculously overpaid. That's why lots of teams don't sign them.
Exactly. You usually get a full letter grade below what you pay

Sign a “B” player but pay “A” level money,

The key is knowing what you need and then going after it.

Jerry gets scared off of free agents because he (and Stephen specifically) always want to “win” every deal and in free agency you don’t get that type of control because you’re competing head to head with another front office.

The secondary success is dictated by the pass rush. We’ve paid top dollar for corners, spent high draft capital bin corners and they all turned out to not be good as they’re paid especially once the pass rush is nonexistent.

Porter Jr goin find out real soon how much of a pleasure he had playing behind Heyward, Watts, and Benton.

I’d rather spent the capital on the front seven.

I know yall probably weren’t aware of it but I live in DC so I see the ravens and commanders game every week and both their oline were heavily compromised by injury. The cowboys were suppose feast on those olines. Commander were missing their best olinemen and the ravens had their back guard playing center.
Corner and the front 7 go hand in hand. Both are equally important.

I don't know if you remember a few years ago we got killed even with having a solid pass rush in Micah against the PAckers.

With better corners maybe now you have more confidence in blitzing more.

i’m not sure how good Porter is, because i don’t watch many Steelers games, but the compensation seems fair, also do the Jones clowns know they can trade with other teams besides Pittsburgh?

We still could
Would love it, but won't hold my breath.
They're already going to owe a couple of former Steelers a lot of money, and Pittsburgh has already received multiple 2nd and 3rd round picks for Pickens, Jones, and Porter. Besides, they apparently thought Gary was better for similar money lol.

Would have much rather offered similar compensation for Edge Alex Highsmith, who already has 3 sacks this year, and is very solid vs the run. He's also under contract through the 2027 season, and his cap hit is approximately $20M.
They haven't been able to generate a pass rush, which will continue to negatively impact the secondary regardless of who is back there.
Id rather have Herbig to be honest

I would like to make a comment about the pass rush. I would argue that in the first three games the cowboys have played three of the most mobile QB’s in the league. Dart , Daniels, Lamar Jackson are all very tough to track and contain. I expect to see an improvement over the next 3 games. We have Stroud, Love coming up. I think we see the rush improve as the season goes.
