Just messing around hahaGreat at run defense? Porter? The Porter we traded for? Really? You know we trade for his father right?

Ah...got meJust messing around haha

Sure, pick the doomsday defense, but pick one of Landry's from the mid to late 80's and I'll take this one!Go player by player against any of Landry's doomsday defenses and then come back here to high five me.
Thanks, this is solid insight. I'm a little jaded when it comes to adapting schemes to fit the players. Eberflus didn't even try and the jury is still out for Parker. If Porter is put in a position that fits his abilities, it's a decent move. I'm just not confident that will happen. He's a good talent. I'm not mad that he's on the team. I just don't see how his presence fixes the problems that we've seen. His skills are naturally suited for press coverage because he’s big and physical.
His entire career he’s been playing in Tomlin’s Tampa 2 defense which is a zone.
The main tweak that Tomlin made was that he let Porter play at the line of scrimmage. It was “press zone” coverage but was still a zone with but sork man coverage mixed in, especially when the offense had an elite WR1 like Chase. This allowed Porter to be physical with receivers and jam them
Parker’s (and Fangio’s) defense typically has the CB line up with a bit of cushion and requires the CB to make reads post snaps. We’ll see if Parker tweaks his base scheme to take advantage of Porters specific skills.
He didn’t let Bland play press but Bland kinda sucks now. He might reconsider a bit with a better player at CB1
1st, 2nd, 4th and 7th. No 2nd in 2028.Do we have any draft picks left?![]()
Parker literally did this stuff with Quinyon Mitchell last season and Patrick Surtain before that. Thanks, this is solid insight. Parker wasn't calling the shots last year and initial results this year are not good. I hope he proves me wrong.Parker literally did this stuff with Quinyon Mitchell last season and Patrick Surtain before that.
Don't the Jets get the better of Dallas' 1st round picks? We may not have the Packers' pick given what's happening with them. It actually looks to be a toss-up which pick is higher - ours or the Packers. The fact it's a 2028 pick....to me makes it a no brainer. That's a pick almost 2 years out. You make that deal in a heartbeat. Chances are...we recoup that pick in a trade down in the 2027 draft with that Packers pick.
So you don't have a solution you just want to complain?I do not have to say what they should do in the here and now lol. That’s for you to decide for yourself. I am laughing at the absurd notion that fans have to accept the inevitable and go along with the captain plotting a course to ram an iceberg.
I have said it before-this website and the group of fans is immeasurably more entertaining than the milk toast product being sold with the star on the helmet. Which is why I come. For what it’s worth, I can definitely see the Cowboys making the postseason in this weak conference and exceptionally weak division.
noThe questions remains. Does a move like this put Dallas over the top?
noDoes it put Dallas into at least the middle of the pack in defense?
noDoes it erase the horrible coaching decisions made during the Ravens game?
noDoes it make Dallas a top 1-5 team in the NFL?
Let’s hope the Raiders break down and are like 4-4 or 3-5 by then, just to open up the possibility of a Maxx trade again because they can’t tell themselves they are good.So let's say we turn it around a little. The trade deadline is after week 9. The Cardinals will be out of it by then. Josh Sweat has like no guaranteed money after this year and AZ seemed to be rumored to being ready to move on but it seemed they couldn't or wouldn't trade him yet in the offseason. How much could he really bring back in a trade at this point? A 4th at this point for a half season rental?
Maybe we really go all in and try and help the pass rush at the deadline as well. For this year cap wise he'd cost us like 8/17 of his $9.8M salary and another $.5Mish in game day bonuses so a little over $5M or so. I could see it. Next year we cut him with no cap hit or trade him and try and recoup a pick. Now you have a pass rusher to go with the rest of your defense. Not sure IMO it would be smart because I still don't think we would be a SB team, but I'm not Jerry...
Part of the reason I used Sweat in my example was to show he could be a 1 year rental. If you traded for Maxx you are keeping him long term. Adding Maxx, Pickens and Porter to the cap...Let’s hope the Raiders break down and are like 4-4 or 3-5 by then, just to open up the possibility of a Maxx trade again because they can’t tell themselves they are good.
