The Aftermath Of The Ravens Game

Dak didn't lose the game. Coaches did not prepare the team to close out games. Mistakes, penalties, and lack of focus contribute to losses. We have talent. This was a game we should have won easily, we kept giving it back to them. Play calling was largely contributory.

Fumbling the ball we had a great drive going
Illegal motion took us off the 3 yard line
Missed field goal
And we still had an opportunity to win it at the end
That’s when your point is valid

Dak looked panicked. The coaching staff obviously panicked. This was a week 3 game.

But hey, as long as we don't get into situations like that, and we get out in front and all we have to do is take a knee to end the game, we should be ok.
Dak always looks panicked against better competition. Compare that to how he looked beating up on the commanders

We might win the division and make the playoffs. That's as far as it will go. Jerry always assembles teams that will stay around the rim and this team is no exception. The team has no heart. That's been the problem with many Cowboy teams this century. And it starts at the top. Jerry continues to hire his puppet coaches . People that won't overshadow him. Who did most of the talking after the Porter trade? It was Jerry once again trying to show the world what a great football man he is. This team is still a flawed team but what the Raven game really showed is when the pressure is on, this team will fold like always. It doesn't matter what trades we do or who we draft. This team is doomed as long as Jerry is in charge. He seems very desperate now. Should have been all in the last 30 years.
We're not winning the division this year. We're no where close to being on the Eagles level. We might get 2nd somehow, mainly because of injuries on the Giants and Red Skins, but right now we are the 3rd best team in the East. We have to earn 2nd.

But yeah, people are missing the point why people are upset. You got some people yucking it up that people are "giving up" the third game in the season. But those are short term thinkers, like you are explaining. It's not about making the playoffs; it is about how we most likely perform if we do get there. Week 1, deer-caught-in-headlights look in the season opener against what should be an easy win. Week 3, in a game where both sides of the ball start a comeback to win a game many of us marked as an Loss before the season started, you have a no guts, no glory move to throw the ball away, which cost us the game. That kind of leadership is not going to help us if we do somehow manage to squeeze into the playoffs.

It's people who look at the short term versus people who look at the long term. If I look in the short term, yeah its only game 3. If i look towards the long term, the defense hasn't improved from last year, we have puppet coaches, and the quarterback is not an on the field leader that could handle the pressure of the playoffs.

I'm not sure 'mentally fragile' is the right way to describe the team.

My belief is that there is no push from the ownership on down to be the best, that winning doesn't matter all that much. Jerry has said in the past that just remaining 'relevant and interesting' are his goals every year. Does that scream that the franchise is really focused on competing for championships? Does that tell you Jerry will do whatever it takes to get back to a super bowl? It doesn't.

So what happens when your boss tells you it no longer matters how you perform, that as long as you make things interesting that will be enough to satisfy him? The team takes on the attitude of the man in charge. I look at this franchise and I see a group of people who don't really care if they win or lose, and it isn't anything new, this attitude has been around for a while. Remember Romo's famous quote "If this is the worst thing that will ever happen to me, then I've lived a pretty good life." after a crushing 44-6 loss to the Iggs in 2008? The 1990's super bowl teams would have been destroying their locker room after an embarrassing loss like that, but Romo was like 'oh well'.

Winning didn't matter then and it still doesn't matter in 2026. Winning at all costs hasn't existed since Jimmy left the building.
Winning doesn't matter much to some of these fans either apparently. Grin and bear it and smile, is their motto.

Eagles suck, Giants are in trouble, commanders, lol

Puppets prepare teams? Is that what you thought when Jerry hired the latest puppet?

I think there was a real danger the Ravens game could hurt the Cowboys psyche for a few weeks, but I also think the Porter trade could have changed that. It gives the team something else to focus on and I am sure the players are happy to see a top CB come into their locker room.

Having said that, it is still the coaching. Schottenheimer proved to me he will never be a good HC and I am far away from the team. I can't help but wonder what the players in the locker room think about that disaster in Brazil. I am wonder now is Dak deliberately threw that 3rd down pass away to spite Schottenheimer for suggesting he throw it away rather than try to make a play.

So where do we go from here .

The apologists will say it's only one game it's only a few plays.

They will rebound from this they will learn they will get better and a bunch of other excuses.

But down deep we long time fans know exactly what's going to happen.

Our leaders coach and quarterback have just put on display to the whole team their lack of talent in big moments.

They're complete and utter failure with the game on the line.

Sure the players will talk the company line and say how they'll rebound and it's a long season and they'll learn from these mistakes.

But down deep in dark places with their agents whispering in their ears we just cultivated a whole roster of career protectors and business decision makers.

What we witnessed was bad football and we can't unsee it but worse yet the rest of the team can't unsee it no matter what company line they throw at the media.
Our coach hopes our quarterback can still trust him.

Our owner said what he saw was unexplainable.

Does anybody believe the team still has confidence in its leaders seems like a lot of uncertainty coming from the top brass.

And if they lost confidence can they get it back.

Does anybody believe our leaders can change and get better in big moments and rise to the occasion.

Is the season pretty much done after that display will we underachieve just collect paychecks and muddle through.

Got to give it to Jerry he threw some more talent at the roster after that disaster can we make the playoffs still mathematically of course but mentally
They've shown us who they are time and time again. I will say though that Jerry is finally putting some focus on the defense, he changed his usual MO, and if that works out then the team dynamic might change. Don't force Dak to carry the team and the results may surprise.

Here is the difference, it wasn't a lack of talent by the players. We screwed up the play calling and time management. No excuse to not give ourselves a better chance for a TD at the end or AT WORST leave no time on the clock. Also, there are no excuses in football but our DBs after Downs and Bland on the field for the last play (Bell,Clark, Speed, Steward) aren't our DBs going forward so that again addresses the lack of talent point. None of those guys should have been active, let alone on the field with the game on the line

On the bigger point, I never thought this was a SB team so Meh. You either win a SB or you build towards one. This team is WAY better than last years so we are in the build towards one stage IMO. How much better than last year? We don't know yet. I suspect somewhere in between where the typical sky is falling crowd stand and where those that think we should win every game stand. Crazy thing is looking at our division, we just may be the favorites. Our division flat out stinks.

'Just enjoy the ride' is something I frequently hear. A team and ownership that doesn't care if they win or lose and we're supposed to simply enjoy the ride. Right......

I can agree that this team wasn't a super bowl team, not that I thought they would make the playoffs. But is this defense better than last year? Better than before Parsons got offended by Jerry trade negations to the point that he had to be traded because he would've become a cancer? I could've gotten past the trade since he needed to be traded at that point anyway, but the second trade made no sense. I think we would've been better off with the draft capital for this next draft. When are we going to worry about a future quarterback or the future of the team as a whole. That 2nd trade was a win now move, what did we win while mortgaging away our possible future?

I know it is going to happen, with probably no playoff success, but what you think they are going to be saying on year 15. And why is year 15 acceptable? What will the excuses be for the lack of success and mediocrity...

I feel like you're painting the picture slightly darker than it really is. Notice that I said "slightly".
