Overton being overlooked?

yeah i got nothing. results are what they are. i've just seen a lot to get excited about. it's weird
Man i have too. Then I’ll watch other teams play and their defenses are bad and look worse but they don’t give up nearly the same points. I’ve never seen a defense like this. And I’m wondering where do we rank against the run against running backs. I feel like it’s improved.

Brother there's no need to start off like that. There's about 20 here that I totally respect because you all are fair minded fans, with no agenda other than you all want to win.

Ranching, after the loss to the Ravens spoke his mind. One said something like "Find another team" "Hater" like they say Rockport always does to fans who complain all the time. It's stupid that they can't see the difference in the criticism from you and Ranching, and from others here who NEVER have a good thing to say about our team, even after a win.

I wish you, Ranching and those other fair-minded fans would speak up because it's more believable, imo. We (fair-minded fans) know the difference between your criticism and the criticism from those lunatics who hang out under the bridge here who stay quiet after a win but come out in full force when we lose.

Now to your thoughts here. I think we're showing some improvement. Parker is new to this; he's working with new players, and several are rookies too, and some of those players never played in the type of scheme Parker is running. I'm only a coach coach/GM, but I think D is starting to show signs of life. I think you said in another thread that we only need to be around 20th in league. I agree and that's very reasonable to think we can get to that. Long as our offense keeps us in games until the defense gets to that ranking, we have a shot.
Dayummmmm, wish I could rep you 100 times. If I were more eloquent I could have written this but I agree with this whole heartedly.

I don't live on the message board although I drop in daily, sometimes multiple times, and even spend a bit of time reading some of the threads but there are soooo many Debbie Downers here that it is almost depressing and if not depressing it is infuriating. I am trying to be more mellow in my old age but some of these jerks make it hard. Wish they'd get a different angle or some new content.

I don't wear blue shades or drink blue koolaid. I see many of the team's shortcomings but dadgummit ... that horse is dead, and it's been dead for decades in some cases. Yes, Jerry is and can be infuriating and I get he is at the root of many of these issues but coming here with hundreds of those "Bash Jerry" posts adds NOTHING to the convo and damn sho ain't gonna affect management. Please, please bring some mental cognition to the table y'all !!! PLEASE ! If you can't see that 2026 Jerry and Cowboy management is acting different and this team is being managed differently then by all means go to another Cowboy site or buy your own danged NFL franchise.

Also despite STATS (which is ALL some of you fools can see) the 2026 has a trend and has faced some injury trials that the historically bad 2025 D didn't face. C'mon y'all, open your eyes and put your brains into gear ! If CP stays this D will be good, probably Brian Flores good. Of course Flores veteran D has had years to learn and put that D into practice and wasn't functioning at this level his 1st year as DC.

In the meantime, enjoy these Cowboys and post likewise!

I get that but if 6 or 7 players are playing at a high level they should be better than they are. Last year the defense was just as bad but with far worse players.
Not really. As a unit, they still are a bottom feeder defense. Parker's scheme is likely the issues.

But do you think QW, KC, Downs, Barham, etc can play their position and keep Ready Steward and Bland from giving up huge plays in the secondary at the same time? It just doesn't work like that. There guys are making plays in spite of all of the issues.

Sometimes good players play on bad defenses. Sometimes bad players are weak links on good defenses.

I'd look at who's constantly getting toasted out there (Bland, Steward, Carson, Bell). These guys are JAGs in this scheme.

We need 11 good defenders on defense, not 6-7 all-stars.

But basically it’s made out that everyone is playing well but Bland and Steward and Winters.

Every defense has flaws or weak links. I just don’t think players are playing as well as everyone says. Do I think Downs, Barham, Overton and Malachi are playing good for rookies? I do. I’m not sure if that’s good enough.

Man I hate to be that guy but there’s about 5 or 6 guys who people keep saying are playing good football on this defense…just for us to be one of the worst in the league. How can everyone be playing this good and we still suck?
I hear you. The ones playing well either don’t play high impact positions or don’t do it consistently. Otto and Overton play NT, Barham had one elite game. That’s different from an edge rusher raising hell every week (like we had with Micah).

It’s not entirely his scheme or playcalling. Having five injured players, many of them key starters or heavy contributors, is a big factor.

They’re not all back yet, and now they’ve JUST added JPJ.

Most of us already figured it might take until midseason to get things where he wants them, and with the injuries plus a new player in the mix, he’s working to get it on track.

I’m looking at Game 10 to really see where they are. I want to see this team fully healthy, especially in the areas hit hardest, mainly safeties, corners, and a linebacker. Sure, other teams deal with injuries too, but it slows down the progress of flipping a roster and implementing a new scheme.

That was always going to be a huge undertaking, no matter who’s on defense. And here’s proof: the Houston Texans, a playoff-caliber defense with one of the best units in the league last year, same scheme, same players, and a defensive head coach, still had trouble stopping our offense when we lit them up in the second half, and they were pretty healthy.

So before blaming Christian Parker after just four games and a slew of injuries, maybe take a little splash of cold water we call reality.

And then lastly not an excuse they have yet to have any of their pass rushers become impactful at all they're hardly noticed on the field he does not have a top 15 pass rusher in this league let alone top 10 or top 5 Yay spent $200 million over there with the Texans just on the defensive line over the offseason they paid them they made sure they stayed they add some more..

Again, it might take a second offseason to really see this take off but for sure stop judging it after four games yes it has a lot of work that needs to be done but I'm not giving up on the fact that he can become a very good coordinator when we get enough pieces here for the 34 again have it healthy.

First of all, thank you. And you should post more often to try and balance out this place. I'm good friends with the guy who owns and operates a very popular VH fan site on FB. He lets the trolls do what they please because it's traffic for him and they help with threads and posts. But there he lets us call them out and shame them, here that is not tolerated. It's the same mindset here. If they ban all the trolls and Debbie Downers, then it's less money for them. They act like Jerry Jones. Jerry believes in "get them talking about my team and it doesn't matter if it's negative talk." The great Rock & Roll philosopher, Diamond Davis Lee Roth once said, "It's not whether you win or lose, it's how good you look, baby!" This site has the same philosophy as Jerry Jones. But at least they should let us bash the trolls. And I do think the Debbie Downers chase away those good posters. Fans like @AsthmaField should be posting a lot more. @Ranching too since he has the most knowledge of the game than 99 percent of the people here.

I do wear navy/royal blue glasses and I'm so drunk off Jerry's blue Kool-Aid that I should be in rehab.

Yep you're right. The negativity isn't going do anything. Which is why I always try to be positive. It's not easy but I try. I see the positive and negative in just about everything. I'm a glass half FULL kind of guy.

And even a blind man can see this year is different. No way would the old Jerry Jones get rid of Parsons. Parson always brought attention to the team and Jerry loves him some attention. The old Jerry wouldn't have hired Parker and let him bring in his coaches. It's been said way too many times to think about, "Jerry is the coach and GM." That poor horse has been dead for a long time, so I see no reason to continue hitting that poor thing. It's not going to change anything.

You're right again. It does take time. You're using common sense here. I think common sense is God given, but people just don't use it.

Let's hope and pray for the best for our team.

We need Overton to eventually replace Kenny Clark and he's off to a great start.

That Shelton guy o the oline looked overmatched on the field against Houston…
Shelton is only playing on special teams and as a jumbo package tight end. He's getting no real reps on the o-line so any struggles there are not his fault.

But basically it’s made out that everyone is playing well but Bland and Steward and Winters.

I do agree with some of that I mean I'm looking at this draft and I don't know how they're all going to turn out maybe no all not frontline starters but this might be one of the better drafts we've had in a while.. Time will tell but my gut feeling is like the way they're playing now four games in being thrust into spots they weren't ready for,

I think they're gonna end up being one of the better drafts that we have had in a really long while.

Pass my that Kool-Aid....AAAHHHH, That's good stuff. I took it serious when my paycheck depended on it, here i mostly just mess with some of these guys. Occasionally, I get serious, but it doesn't take long for a pencil pusher to come out and call me "just a HS coach" lol.... used to tick me off and then I just let them vent. All those HS years they spent being laughed at and walking around with Wedgies! Oh, look!!! Here comes one now..let's see who it is!!
