The process that led to the Cowboys hiring Brian Schottenheimer

This will make you sick.

A reminder on the process that led to the Cowboys hiring Brian Schottenheimer:

- Dallas sent Mike McCarthy into lame duck 2024
- The season went predictably bad
- They missed the playoffs
- They spent the Wild Card Round doing nothing, going back and forth with him
- This made potentially interviewing top candidates at the time (Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn) impossible, literally
- Monday of the Wild Card Round they finally separated
- The first report of Schotty being connected to the job was because he was the betting favorite out of nowhere
- It was after that it was reported he was having an interview
- They announced him as the new head coach on a Friday night, very un-Cowboys

The whole thing was a mess and so of course here we are.

I will make it simple:
No decent HC wanted to come to this circus and coach for peanuts.
So we got someone just happy for the chance.

This will make you sick.

jerry would not have signed glenn or johnson. strong coaches, who are expensive and want control.
jerry and stephen had a budget in mind for the coach and found one that fits that budget.
and they got the budget results from the coach. why is anyone surprised.

I like how it points out that Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn weren’t able to be interviewed.

As if any guy offered would be interested in working under Jerry. That’s the limiting factor on head coaches. You have to be able to be an assistant head coach to Jerry Jones.

Would those guys do that? If so, opportunity missed. If not, they wouldn’t have ever been chosen.

Jerry Jones will never hire another coach that will win a Super Bowl because Jerry Jones isn’t willing to take a back seat. His options are always going to be limited to people who will play 2nd fiddle to his decision making.

Schotty is another Garrett when it comes to his offensive identity. He doesnt adjust in-game. It took him all the way till the 4th qtr when he realized he should have his receivers run short, quick routes instead of his long developing curl and post routes. The line and Dak had been struggling with the blitz all game and Noone on the staff thought to change anything. The literal definition of insanity.

Dang, it was only a few months ago that this was going to be our year. New DC, great picks by Jerry, then the chokers back, and this year and the next 40 years are over. dang. Maybe in 41 we get better.

I miss those threads, almost puts a tear in my eyes. Cowboys on three..........*three*

What process? Jerry woke from his afternoon nap and hired the first person in his line of vision. Only surprise is it wasnt a family member, but dont put that past him.
Seems like that’s what happens.
One interview with one candidate.
Then Jerry convinces himself that he’s found THE coach.

"Process" implies there was something involved beyond Jerry wanting to have a coach who wouldn't make him walk on eggshells. They were either going to retain McCarthy or hire someone with no other options. Guys like Johnson were never going to be in the mix.

(I know you and everyone else here knows this, I'm just venting.)

We go into every game with a disadvantage in coaching. Jerry refuses to hire competent people bc he fears being left out and disagreeing with coaches who stand their ground. So, we get Wade Phillips, Carrot Top, MM, and now Shotty. All very agreeable men who pretend to enjoy his company. There is nobody held to a performance standard. No standards at all really.

So, last night will be viewed as just a game. It won't inform Jerry about anything, and nothing will be learned. Nobody will be held accountable for their poor play, and around we go. Now, we have 10 days of excuses and hopium ahead of us. Rinse and repeat.

Also a reminder that Jerry called Adam Schefter and asked if he had ever heard of Brian Schottenheimmer and started REMINDING THE REPORTER that Schotty had never been a head coach on any level and then PROUDLY said, "He's going to be the next head coach of the Dallas Cowboys....".

It was all for that moment to plunge and make a splash. To go against the grain. Hiring Jimmy went against the grain and so did firing Jimmy...this is what Jerry loves.

I can see Jerry and Stephen drunk at some hookers joint. Jerry leans over and asks Stephen, " Who's the biggest arse-kissing clown coach who's never been an HC out there? Stephen looks around and says We have that arse clown right now on staff. Jerry: "You big bucket-head loser, that's a great idea."

Jerry made the right decision to hire Parcells and promise to stay out of football matters. He kept that promise ... at first. After that, he just couldn't help himself. He had to meddle. Meddling is in Jerry's DNA. Too bad he didn't have the self control to just stay out and let qualified people run the team.

This team is so incompetently run it might as well be run by Jerry Seinfeld instead of Jerry Jones.

Fun facts about Dallas head coaches post Jimmy:
  • 6 of the 7 coaches who have departed Dallas since Jimmy Johnson never received another permanent NFL head-coaching job.
  • Chan Gailey was the only one hired as a permanent NFL head coach elsewhere, coaching Buffalo for three seasons.
  • Wade Phillips received a brief interim assignment but never another permanent NFL head-coaching position.

Jerry needed to sell the public on a new stadium at the time. Only reason Parcells was brought in.

Honestly, my trust in this team took a huge hit last night.

I mean, the season isn't lost, but we are running out of time (games )

The season was already lost in the off season when Jerry didn't fire the GM and hire a professional to replace him.

I keep telling you guys this every year as a PSA, but a lot of you just don't want to listen to me.

Remember Jerry and the kool-aid gang kept assuring us that Garrett would have HC offers lined up the moment he was no longer Cowboys HC. How'd that turn out?

Jerry made a statement.

Jerry- "whoever ***** ** ****** ***** gets to be the Cowboys coach"

Only a few hookers and Shotty applied ...... and Shotty won.
