Two stats that say it all

Our offense much like last year will keep this team from hitting rock bottom even harder than it should with some easy opponents.

7 or 8 wins is much better than 3 or 4. And might even keep this staff in tact.

But it won’t bring the changes needed.

The math is somewhat misleading by just looking at what the offense scored.

There were actually 10 games the team could have scored less than 30 and still won. And there are more times when they could have scored 30+ and lost.

It just so happens that in many of those games they could have scored less than 30 and still won, they scored 30+. Just because they did score 30+, doesn't mean they needed to.
And it happened there were some games they lost where the offense did not due well and the team would have lost, even at the league average points allowed. As in, they would have won if they scored 30, but they also could have won with 25.
yes current example is TB game dallas only scored 16 points so TB only needed 17 to wwwwin

What did we get ourselves into hiring shotty!!?
A walk around pretty coach with a nice legacy name , learning on the job as long as the losses are manageable and Jerry is happy. Dak had a nice bonding him and that sealed it to his favor . He will ultimately be sacked and all the blame will go to him as usual. Plenty of coaches will take that job LOL.

I'd rather have Kellen Moore. He can do the same as Shoddy on the offensive side of the ball, and at least I could tell myself well he's still really young so maybe he'll turn a corner. Shoddy is what he is. (Obviously I don't actually want KM).

The sad part is Shotty is probably a pretty good OC and whys he’s been around the league for 25 years.

Except for some questionable HC decisions I’d say most should be pleased with the offensive scheme and performance. But he’s not HC material,

Agreed. Tampa had a clear strategy of dominating TOP, reducing the numberof possessions for the Cowboys.

Dallas held the ball for 20:39 compared to Tampa Bay's 39:21, almost 19 minutes more than the Cowboys. That strategy worked because they had 241 yards rushing.
Couldn't disagree more with this. Every team in the NFL has a clear strategy of TOP, Tampa is no different. There were many reasons for the lengthy drives one of which is penalties and another is terrible defense. Recall 3rd and 21? That's not strategy that's playing a defense that is not that good. Rushing yardage and in fact all yardage piles up when you have the ball for 90% of the first quarter.

What did we get ourselves into hiring shotty!!?
He may be the worst of the worst, right up there with Chan Gayley, Dave Campo, and the absolute worst, The Red Clapper, Jason Garret. Schotty talks a great game and delivers absolute crap. He is clueless. He demands nothing from his players, he manages games extremely poorly, and he chokes just as much as Dak. These two are not winners. They are the stiffs Jerry uses to give the illusion that he cares. Different players on defense, but the same issues as last year. No toughness, no communication, poor tackling, and penalties that let the opposing offenses keep drives alive. Nothing has changed. To me, the proof that Schotty isn't a good coach is the record and how they got there. Building a culture of failure and allowing the coach and the players to say, "We will clean it up". But they just do not, and there is no chance that it is going to happen in the future This team is made up of salary cashers who don't care whether they win or lose.

What did we get ourselves into hiring shotty!!?
Did you just say that apparently? You don't comprehend or read or are you trying to be funny and sarcastic 'cause it says that? His side of the ball is doing more than a chair, and yes, he's the head coach, but he doesn't run the entire team. These people are being hired by the GM and the rest of the front office. I don't want to hear the nonsense on this must be Brian Schottenheimer's problem. No, it's not. It's Mike Nolan. Mike Zimmer. Matt Eberfluth. And now, Christian Parker. That's right, they did a full 360 on. Hiring experience, retreads, and now we're trying something different in five games. In you acting like this is Brian Schottenheimer's fault. But this is like the 3rd or 4 time that the. Offense has been. Ridiculously good. And the defense has been historically bad since 2016. So yeah, let's just pick on that. Prescott had an off day, a Schottenheimer. It must be him. No, it is the fault of. The people who are hiring these people and at this point this year, you're not even giving this a chance...

Y'all keep trying that what I see from Schotty, Is he's not the problem and he hasn't had a fair chance help. About them. Get some. Defense and special teams going, he can't run it all by himself. He's not doing all the hiring. He's also not coaching. The whole entire team. That is why you have a defensive coordinator and a special teams coach and then a whole bunch of assistants. It's insane whether you're trying to be funny, but you're not. You're trying to be sarcastic. You're not doing a good job of it. Because right now this is laid at the feet of Jerry Jones. And the rest of this team, not Schottenheimer...

Leave you with this one example. Did you think this guy coached well in Cleveland? Didn't he get fired or did he quit? II believe you got fired and immediately got hired by the Falcons. Why is that? I bet they looked at it and said, well, that can't be all his fault. Must be the owner, the GM. There must have been something else because had a guy, a guy like this below, just immediately get another job. But but apparently you think Brian Schottenheimer is not doing a good job. Maybe you ought to take a closer look.

Kevin Stefanski was the head coach of the Cleveland Browns last year (2025) and is now the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons. [1, 2]

So far in the second year of Brian Schottenheimer’s tenure, his overall record in 22 games as HC is 9-12-1. Obviously a lot more football to go this season and the NFC Least is shaping up to be a race for mediocrity, and we are just a game back. Plenty of time to get up off the mat.

There are two stats I ran across however that I think sums up what this team is most challenged with:
STAT ONE (Involving scoring)
  • When Cowboys score less than 30 points, Schotty’s record is 1-10.
  • When the Cowboys score 30 or more, Schotty’s record is 8-2-1.
  • The NFL avg for pts per game for teams is 23.
STAT TWO (offensive possessions)
  • Through 5 games, the Cowboys have the least number of offensive possessions with 45, or 9 possessions per game. League avg is 10.4 per game. Sea leads the league with 62 possessions or 12.4 possessions per game.
  • When you have to score 30 or more to win, and you don’t get that many possessions in a game, your offense is in a place where it has to score almost every time it has the ball.
Through 22 games under Schotty, we have less than a 10% chance of winning if we score less than 30. Ouch.

The hope for improvement: GETTING TURNOVERS AND SHORT POSSESSIONS FROM OPPONENTS. Turnovers and extra stops from your defense give your offense extra possessions along with some short fields.

Without more TOs from our defense giving our offense more possessions, our offense will have to continue to score 30 or more each week to win.

Hopefully Mike Pettine can help Chris Parker dial up some stops and TOs.
Well, at least somebody sees it the correct way. I know Schottenheimer is supposed to be the leader of the entire team, but he can only do so much with what he's got. He's not doing the hiring, the special teams coach, the defensive coordinator, they're not living up to their expectations. I think he's doing his part, his decisions being overly criticized as some of the ones that were picked on a lot when you look around the league this year. I don't see. Where there's a big difference in some of the mistakes he's made, in the amount of mistakes some of the season head coaches have made in similar situations, we've already went over it. So yes, please. How about some short fields, some easy points, some more time of possession for the offense? That would be really nice. Although what we're saying is they're going to have to score more points. What we need is actually to score less points and still win games.

I mean, look at the Jaguars. I don't know what they did last weekend, but up until last weekend, their last. 10 games they have held teams 20 points or less. Many of those were at 17 points or less. Yeah, Liam Cohen looks like a genius on offense, right? Oh, Trevor Lawrence. He's found his new self. No, he hasn't. His defense has made it easy on that side of the ball. Give that to Schott, Heimer and Prescott and they will do wonders in this league..

Here is the most sobering stat:

Mike McCarthy was 13-10 without Dak
Schotty is 9-13-1 with Dak

Sure, the defense was better with McCarthy, but the 2020 defense was terrible and Mike still went 4-5 with Dalton. Schotty has brought down the entire operation. And Jerry isn’t going to do a darn thing about it.

(McCarthy was 36-22 with Dak).

Well, yeah, if you only want to point out the two, that makes total sense. But we already saw the rest of it. The offense has been super efficient. Up until the last game, they've been carrying this entire team for almost two seasons now. And yes, they're gonna have a couple of off games. But other teams have that, and their defense is special teams. Step up. They don't say well if if you. Have less than your perfect game. Yeah, we're gonna lose. So sorry. We're gonna blame the offense. There was some turnovers and some mistakes made on offense. Whatever happened to Prescott's hand in the Tampa Bay game was affecting him, but the balls were still catchable. But yeah, I mean, it's like saying play perfectly on offense or we're losing. That is a lot of pressure.

You only joined about 4 years ago and already have 10,631 posts. The richest man can't buy time, as I always say here, but yet here you are spending your valuable free time on the clown team with a choking culture. Brother you have no room to criticize anyone. Instead of supporting a clown team that chokes, may I suggest volunteering at a doggy shelter?
Why do you care how I post? Ignore me if you can't take it.

And this is why Jerry is MOST responsible for this mess. He chose to hire Schotty. He interviewed 4 total candidates for the vacant HC Jon including Schotty - Robert Saleh, Kellen Moore, and Leslie Frazier.

I didn’t think too highly of any of those guys but Saleh and Frazier at least had HC experience and are defensive gurus.

Not saying we should have hired any of those guys. I’m just saying that was a pretty weak search. The most profitable sports franchise in the US did a pretty weak job of looking for a HC.

That’s where Jerry has failed. Since jimmy he has put the most expensive sports franchise in the world in the hands of retired friends ( feel bad for barry ) , or second or 3rd tier head coaches , except Parcells. The reason, he wants all the credit and no blame. The situation has gone long enough, and this is coming to an end in 3 years max as he ages.
If he had put aside his ego, and followed other billionaire owners scheme, like Stan Kroenke ( owner of 8+ franchises: rams , nuggets, avalanche , arsenal soccer UK etc etc ), who focused on hiring the top coaches , he would haven’t what Kroenke has , a 2 super bowls and counting .

That differential can even appear more lopsidedly striking when expressed in alternate terms:

Tampa Bay TOP: 39.21 = 2.62 quarters (65.5%)
Dallas TOP: 20.39 = 1.38 quarters (34.5%)
Differential: Tampa Bay +1.24 quarters

That was worse than the similarly-strategized Giants game, which shook out like this:

Giants TOP: 36.40 = 2.44 quarters (61.1%)
Dallas TOP: 23.20 = 1.56 quarters (38.9%)
Differential: Giants +0.88 quarters

The Cowboys have narrowly won the possession battle in only two games thus far (Ravens/Texans) and are 1-1 in those. The Cowboys narrowly lost the TOP to the Commanders in Week 2, yet made the most of those minutes and won in a relative laugher, 37-20.

I'll repeat it again......"The offense has to be flawless and score 30+. " Anything less is a crap shot or on this board, an attack on our QB. The NFL avg is 23. Thanks Jerry, thanks scouting and player evaluation. We don't even give our offense a chance for the most part.......what was the last turnover granted from our D?
