Does anyone think our offensive line is good enough for the playoffs?

What would you do to improve the offensive line?

Yes. But game repetitions with the same group will make it much better than it is now.

We heard that last year. The solution to the problem is to plug a guy in at a position he has never played a couple of weeks before the season starts?

Let's break it down:

LT: Under performing top 10 draft pick. He has been OK. Nothing special.
LG: Leary has never played in a real NFL game and is coming off injury. Berny is a career backup playing a new position if Leary can't go.
C: Again, never played in a real NFL game.
RG: Free. So bad he took a pay cut and playing guard for the first time in his career. Berny, see above.
RT. Free or Parnell. Parnell couldn't beat out Free, who was one of the worst RT in the game last year.

Championship!

Great breakdown of the oline. I have much more hope than I did before reading this post.

Yes, got busy with work today, but I think that we need to trade a player, preferably to get immediate help on the line.

Right now, we have one backup forced into a starting position. There's not enough depth to get things going.

Trade Orton for a Guard, trade a running back for a Guard. Trade a promising LB for Depth on the line. Something!!

I'm less enthusiastic about trading a draft pick for an OL, but SOMETHING has to happen. I'd be ok with it.

I wouldn't trade Orton, maybe a RB though since we have 4 solid options.

The problem with that is that i doubt other teams value any of our RB's other than Murray near as much as we do.

Honestly, i might think if we do have an injury and Kowalski is still on the street, i'd think about signing him back.

Unfortunately, our OL hasn't improved.

I call Fredrick an improvement, Smith with another season under him and improvement, Leary is an upgrade and Free is also better than last season we have Parnell as the one question mark. 4/5 compare to last year isn't too bad.

I'm more concerned with other units than the offensive line. I feel like we have a good starting unit and actually have some depth there. I'm more worried about the depth on the DLine and in the secondary. CB was a position I felt good about all offseason until Saturday, carrying 4 active CBs is flirting with danger because Scandrick never really lived up to his hype and Webb is a huge question mark. We are one Claiborne/Carr injury away from seeing both of them on the field at once which scares the day lights out of me.

unfortunately our 3 biggest needs of the off-season OL, DL, safety are still huge question marks

credit our roster builders

not one of our biggest need areas were adequately addressed

Wow, I can't believe that over 50% of those who voted don't think we need another guard. Dallas has one backup quality player on the offensive line, no matter how the deck is shuffled.

Rounds up to 60%. Surprising for a thread that suggested there was an OL deficiency to begin with.

I'm not surprised, there are a lot of prideful types locked into their previously stated opinions and analysis. It'll be a cold day in you-know-where before they acknowledge that Livings/Berny/Costa/Arkin et al are less-than-JAGs

not surprising at all considering the audience

Yea, I can't believe that also. Just goes to show the lack of something (trying to keep it civil) amongst the voters.

The starting line up of the following:

Smith LT
Leary LG
Frederick C
Bernadeau RG
Free RT

This group can help you get into the playoffs....

Lol. The results must be hard for you to reconcile, huh?

People have done a really nice job on this board building the case for an improved pass defense and takeaways. They've seen the team play well on offense with weaker starters. They've watched OL play in preseason. There's really no reason to use personnel as an excuse now.

All that said, the poll will probably even out over the course of the day.

I think our players are good enough. I think Garrett is mentally challenged for moving Free to guard and having Parnell start at tackle. We have good enough players. But our so-called leader is a joke.

And I'm not voting in the poll because they're all stupid solutions.

Wait, I thought Garrett had worked his way up to a preseason 4? You're not telling me a 4 is a joke now? Man. Tough crowd.

I like a few other moves and the players we've garnered. But 4 isn't where I want to be. I lack confidence in his consistency and his ability to coach at all positions, like Parcells or Jimmy Johnson.

Maybe I'm wrong. But I don't think so.

Doug Free should stay at RT. He's had enough problems switching positions and this is now his 3rd position on the offensive line. It's gotten ridiculous. I see the potential in Parnell, but I'm not confident in him starting. If anything, I would have looked at Parnell at guard and kept free at tackle. I just don't have a good feeling about Free at guard. I hope I'm wrong.

Based on...?

See my explanation above. Basically, you have 2 guys who have never started in the NFL, a career backup, a guy who sucked so badly he took a giant paycut, and an under performing top 10 pick.
