By calling him average, it makes you seem very obtuse, because no one in their right mind would call him average. Even if they can't stand the guy. I'm not going to speak of all his credentials of why he's not average, because it's very obvious to most of us. :)

What credentials? Three years ago i wouldnt have called him average, but he's older, has shown little improvement over those years and there are a lot of younger guys id much rather have at QB. I dont put the last three years squarely on his shoulders because the O line sucked, the Defense was highly inconsistent and we have had lots of injuries

Romo--or the game plan-- seeded particularly conservative. Maybe he's sensitive to those in the media and even those in the fanbase that have attacked him for being a gunslinger. It sure seemed like 90% of the pass plays went to short or intermediate routes or to checkdowns/screens.

The one interception wasn't Romo's fault. He played in a very restrained, very drive-the-bus fashion. With all the turnovers we had, perhaps that was the best approach.

But we didn't land the knock-out blows. We had virtually zero deep plays.

I'm personally not convinced that Romo is 100% healthy with his back...and that precedes the rib issues that will now come into play. If you looked at his cautionary decision-making, his lack of running around and juking defenders...his hesitancy to throw deep...it didn't even look like Tony Romo out there.

It was a different offense for Romo and it played huge dividends.

One interception and long extended ball control drives that forced Eli to the bench.

I will take that every day.

The time of possession difference was enormous until the 4th Qt. when the Jints had to respond. Whatever.

There should be no excuses this year. I've cut Romo a lot of slack in the past due to the shaky OL, bad running game and bad defense. Fact is, if we're getting turnovers, running the ball for at least 80 yards a game and blocking, it should be enough for us to get to the playoffs. We have an all pro TE, a very talented Dez Bryant, Miles Austin... what more do we need to really compete?

Younger guys for THIS year? Yah right, maybe for the next 5+ years, but not even close for this year. The only "younger" guy I would even consider is Kaepernick.

You act like he's been a scrub these past years. You've already said "QB ratings and other stats that people throw out is of little concern to me", so why should I list his credentials? You already have your mind made up, Tony is just some scrub/average QB. Heck, it wouldn't surprise me at all if you came out and said you'd rather have K.Orton starting. He's an average QB just like Romo.

Anyways, have a good day dude. Clueless. :D

Romo is an average QB... So he performed about how I expected.

Now to back that up:

36 completions out of 49 attempts for 263 2 TD 1 INT 91% rating. YPC were low for him but of the 49 attempts 33 were 5 yds or less completed at 85%. Callahan calls the plays. We don't know how many he audibled out of but NY took Dez out and while Miles stepped up no one else really did. Romo had all day at times but still couldn't find someone open. Maybe he was scared to turn the ball over so didn't throw to tight windows. Certainly this was true for Dez. We'll never know the answer to that O/W. Maybe people just weren't getting open. While I don't think the Giants pass D is that great obviously it was effective Sunday. I'd certainly like to know what they did but I still don't have the coaches film.

You can find his career stats online to see where he stands. I'll throw you a bone....Romo has the highest 4th quarter rating in the history of the NFL.

Made my mind up on what?, im a fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the players that play for the team including Romo, not a just Romo. Im clueless cause i dont agree with your man crush? umm ok, ill be that. But dont put worlds in my mouth i never said. My original comment was vague so the fact that you interpreted that comment as negative exhibits your mind set not mine.

Romo being an average QB doesnt mean we cant win with him. Id rather be a great team with and average QB like the Ravens last year, than an average team with a great QB. And ye, based on potential id rather have Andrew Luck, Kaepernick, Russel Wilson, Mathew Stafford, Andy Dalton; Even RGIII if he fully heels from the injury.

You can spin this all day every which way but loose and you'll still be wrong. It was a ridiculous post.

said already i dont care to much about stats. His performance was not spectacular. It was good on sunday, if he plays like that every week we should a good season because on paper, we have a pretty good team, especially if the o line continues to improve. But like i said, i could care less about stats. I rather Romo win a couple super bowls than be forth in QB ratine in the 4rt quarter. Its a meaningless stat. And like i said, i understand its not all on Romo.

What was a ridiculous post? that Romo is an average QB? umm ok? Theres little you could do to change my mind on that. Ive seen every game he's played in in the NFL, like i said. 3 or 4 years ago, id probably have in the top 7, right now, not really. more like 12-15. which makes him about average.

Romo played one of his better games last Sunday. Now, there wasn't the flash of high stats and big plays, but he essentially drove the bus. He did miss on a few throws, held on to the ball too long on occasion, etc but he played smart, very smart.

I don't want to see him play too cautiously every game but every now and then, it will be needed. He is at his best slinging and taking chances and I don't want to see him turned into Alex Smith. He is an above-average QB and I am glad we have him.

Wow ......

wow? wow what? like i said before, i could care less about that. I dont care what Romo 4rth quarter rating is as long as we win. He could have the highest 4rt quarter rating in NFL history, if the team doesnt win it doesnt matter. Like i said, im a fan of the Dallas Cowboys not just of Tony Romo.

Maybe if Dallas is not playing from behind as much as we have been Romo numbers will not be as high as they have been. Dallas led from the start of the game and avoided any big mistakes that could have cost us the win. Eli on the other hand was forced into a position that he had to take the chances and while he did great he came up short and had a costly int to end the game. Gosh sounds like the same thing Romo critics have blasted him for. Putting up big numbers but having a critical mistake that tends to happen when you play from behind.

wow? wow what?.

Wow in that , thats part of what makes Tony a good QB. Its the sum of all those things that you do not care about that makes a QB great.
Anytime you here about someone talking Troy Aikman ...... they talk about his accuracy and his completion percentage ....... you know ...... stats that you do not care about ........

But they are part of the things that make players great.

Nah, when people talk about Troy Aikman they talk about three super bowls. And like i said, All that regular season stats mean little, do it in the playoffs. Far to often fans complain that the media puts to all the Cowboys failures on Romo, alot of cowboys fan seem to put far to much blame on the rest of the team like Romo isnt apart of the failures this team has had. He just as much a part of it as everyone else. He's made just as many mistakes. No separating it for me.

Sometimes I just wish he would throw it up to Bryant and let him do his thing. It hasn't stopped CJ or any of the other premier WR and I know Bryant is capable of coming down with the ball in the majority of those situations.

Baffles my mind. Bryant can out jump everyone in that secondary but they don’t give him a chance. Romo was trying to be cute with everything. Keep it simple. Get a fast tempo going. I agree, he had ample time to throw and couldn’t find anyone.

Romo was dinking and dunking taking what the defense gave him and people think he's trying to be "cute". Why would you throw into double/triple coverage when you have a HoF TE and a very good #2 WR in 1 on 1 matches? You wouldn't, you'd keep taking what they give you instead of forcing the ball when it's not necessary.

Funny thing is, if Romo would've done what you just said and thrown a pick, I bet you would've been here hollering how Romo needs to stop with his gunslinger mentality. SMH.

I'm not sure what thread to put this in as there are plenty right now that are discussing Romo and the offense, but what just occurred to me is this: Romo just showed me that he is capable of a few things that I wasn't sure about. First, he can run a west coast type of offense. I'm not entirely sure what to call what we saw Sunday night, but west coast comes to mind. I don't want to get into semantics, so please don't respond with the book definition of west coast offense. That's just what it looked like to me. Romo controlled a short passing game targeting his receivers on short to mid range passes to move the ball down the field instead of with big plays. Now, that's probably because the Giants were taking away a lot of the opportunities to go deep, but the fact remains. He also targeted Murray over 10 times. When is the last time we saw Romo throwing that much to a running back?

Romo also showed good patience and the presence of mind to stay away from trouble and take what the defense gave him. Before Sunday night, taking what the defense gave him would not be a trait I would use to describe Romo. Our QB is, by nature, a risk taker. He wants to push the ball down the field, and he has succumbed to that desire, sometimes fatally, in the past. But against the Giants, he resisted. He could have changed the play had he wanted to. I saw the coverage, but I still expected Romo to throw it up to Dez at some point and probably several times, double coverage be damned. But that never happened.

I guess what I'm getting at here is that Romo showed me a greater ability to adapt to the situation than I've seen in the past. So many times before I've seen the offense and Romo throw it deep over and over with incompletion after incompletion, and never stray from that plan. But this time, the Giants showed him something different, coverages they normally don't use, and Romo made the adjustment. You can say he was afraid and call it weak sauce if you want. You can be concerned if you want, but what I see is a QB taking another step, being smart, and doing what it takes to win the game.
