I would definitely say they overpaid based on the market for defensive ends.

A lot of good ones signed for less than half of what the Spencer tag turned out to be.

And whenever you're looking at $10 million spent on no production, it's disappointing.

Hopefully, for the team's sake, the young guys like Selvie they've brought in will pan out for now and the future.

$10M for no production this year is definitely disappointing, no argument there.

Makes Ratliff more important, but at this point I don't expect him back either.

Why is that in any way attractive? Get a younger DE instead.

Bring back Selvie, draft depth and rotate. I would hope we do not just sit pat thinking Crawford coming back is enough.

Options. If they do not draft a DE with their 1st pick this April, it would be nice to have options.

And I agree that they should not count on Crawford; he is also just an option. They need to keep loading up on young talent, keep their productive young players and bring in affordable vets who are willing to play for cap-friendly contracts. Spencer, unfortunately, will be unable to command a huge contract so I would place him in that last category.

talk about getting paid big money to do nothing...

Question: Since he played like maybe 1 total quarter is all 10mil guaranteed to him?

Yes the ten million hit for this year hurts. But guess what oyr cap just went up 10 million for next year. Just think if he got that nice 45 million dollar deal from dallas with 20-25 guaranteed imagine what that cap would have looked like

Sure about that?

Bennett played three positions last year for Tampa and had very similar numbers to spencer.

And all throughout his career spencer had ware a hall of famer on the other side.

Kept him one year to long.
Of course you can second guess what you pay Spencer all day long, but I think he's the far superior player. His sack numbers have always been hindered by the fact that he has had to play coverage so often.

Funny, Garrett said that Spencer did not have a setback during the week. Another flat out lie.

I knew he needed Micro-fracture surgery, something fishy about this injury from the start that just didn't make sense.....big waste of a franchise money....

If there is one concept I've learned in law and business, it's that just because a plan doesn't work does not mean it was a bad plan. There is inherent risk in every move, and a bad plan does not minimize risk. If we had let Spencer walk, we'd be risking losing a major asset for virtually no return. Franchising him wasn't a bad plan because it minimized risk to the point that we can easily recover -- a bad plan would have been to give him a big contract a la Ratliff.

Oh, and those crowing about Bennett -- you do realize that Bennett and Selvie have had virtually identical production, right?

Definitely true, but the market for players was a surprise for everyone this offseason.
