Funny, Garrett said that Spencer did not have a setback during the week. Another flat out lie.

Are you sure it was a lie, maybe Spencer decided it was in his best interest to get the surgery.
I remember another Cowboy Anthony Wright decided it was better to have the surgery instead of playing QB. I kind of remember Jones Was pissed.

It's just funny how these little minor injuries in Dallas turn into the big huge episodes.

Someone at Valley Ranch needs to be fired because of this. Our medical staff seems pretty clueless with how to deal with injuries.

How on earth is Jay Ratliff not ready? How on earth did we not make Spencer get this surgery back in April?

From everything I've read the Cowboys have one of the better Strength & Conditioning programs in the league.

How often has Romo played hurt and only able to get through a game thanks to the work of our staffs?

Dez has dealt with back and finger issues but always get's on the field.

Witten came back from the spleen injury.

Ware was literally duct taped together last year.

For every injury like this we can point to a great job done by our staff.

BTW if he gets this' surgery in April he is still out for the year.

They could have come to this decision without their having been a setback.

There could simply have been no progress.

Please stop making things up.

I was wondering about him when the new d-line signings started. The setbacks he keeps having are not a good sign.

A lot of people wanted to. They were falling over themselves to add another bad contract to the team.

I can't say that I wasn't also tempted given his performance in 2012 as well as the fact that he is not yet 30. The problem is, however, that it is proven after an athlete reaches his/her peak between 25-28, it is all downhill. It was finally a good business decision after many bad ones.

1. It is not Anthony Spencer's fault he got injured. Everyone who said he was just trying to miss practice or lazy should be ashamed.

2. It is not Jerry Jones' fault he got injured. There was not even a hint of injury at the time of signing. It was not a bad signing just because it didn't work out in retrospect.

3. George Selvie is no Anthony Spencer. This is a big loss.

Please learn to handle a little cognitive dissonance, people.

We wasted $10M.
We? Im sure you meant Jerry. Kudos to Dallas brass for not signing him to a multi year contract. Hopeflly, they can put off surgery and activate him every other week or something. His career is most likely over. Depressing news. Hopefully Rat can contribute this year.

Jerry Jones says Anthony Spencer could be out for the rest of the season with a knee injury.

Uh-oh. #Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says Anthony Spencer needs additional surgery and could be out for the year.

It will be micro fracture surgery for Anthony Spencer - per Jerry Jones

Carlos A. Mendez ‏@calexmendez 2m
Jerry tells KRLD Spencer needs microfracture surgery. Likely going to end his season.

Working to learn: #cowboys Spencer surgery idea directly related to bone bruise/fracture, or other damage,
#cowboys Jerry mentions microfracture surgery with Spencer. @gavindawson will be owed a beer

How can we have been told all this time that Spencer was moments away playing and now this?? What happened that caused the decision to having him undergo another surgery? Did he stub his toe?

Gotcha. I have a feeling Bennett's family didn't care much for the Cowboys. That's just my theory anyway.

All I remember is him talking trash about Free after he whipped him. Wow is free better now. I'd say he has a love/hate bag of mixed feelings for the boys.

We'll never really know considering Spencer has not played DE every down since Purdue. I think it is a loss they could absorb as long as his replacement was solid against the run. So far he (Selvie) has been solid against the run.

Didn't agree with the franchise tag thought we were in cap hell and should just let him go. When he got tagged I was happy to see him still on the team and figured Stephen Jones had a handle on cap concerns.

Best signing in the off-season was Rod Marinelli. I think we will be fine without Spencer.

Wonder how much of this was a "business decision" instead of risking further deterioration of the knee by playing this season with no contract beyond this year. Just throwing it out there, not sure.

We seem to have enough to cover his absence. I think Selvie is playing at a high level.

What happens if any of these guys get injured? That was our problem last year. No depth at all. All looks good now because it's been just 3 games. Can these guys hold up for a full 16 game season? That remains to be seen. The grind of an NFL season is very tough. And a lot of these backups who are thrown into the fire don't make it.

And to whomever said Spencer may be affordable now. I don't even go down that line. Cut ties with him and Ratliff at the end of the season and move on. Spencer hasn't been worth anything since 2009. Very disappointing career. He was always supposed to be that guy opposite of Ware that would cause havoc and he never was. He's old now anyways. Don't need to make mistakes of the past and pay old guys that don't have it anymore.

Moments away from playing?

Did you completely miss the KC game?

Garrett *did* just say in his presser yesterday that Spencer did not have a setback and that resting him was part of the regular therapeutic plan. I'm guessing the team was proceeding with the company line to not give the Dallas media anything to whip up a froth over, and that Spencer's camp independently came to the conclusion that the microfracture surgery option might be the best way to go. The result was that it was handled unevenly from a PR perspective, and obviously the coach was fibbing about the public status of one of his players.

This sucks for Anthony Spencer. He's been a very good player for us for a couple of years. There was a middle-ground deal there this offseason to be had for a long term contract in Dallas, and he didn't take it. He rolled the dice, and it came up snake-eyes for him. We're very fortunate that George Selvie is playing off the street at such a high level.

Too bad. He likely played his last game for the team against KC.

I liked Spencer more than most. I thought he was a very solid player for us.

Glad they didn't sign him to a long-term deal in the off season.
