We won by 14. On the road. In the division. But our play-calling "almost led to a loss"??

Ummm. Ok.

We didn't win that game that as comfortably as some of you are acting. We didn't put the game away until Williams' TD about halfway through the 4th quarter.

Before that it was a 10-3 game.

The OP has a point. The playcalling left a lot to be desired. I got better in the 2nd half but it was atrocious in the first half.

I think part of the problem was Romo kept holding the snap until the one second mark on the play clock. Seemed like the defense got a better jump off the LOS when they did that. Plus it looks like our guys are rushed and not quite as crisp in those situations.

In the second half we lined up and snapped the ball quicker and the offense appeared to be more in sync.

It doesn't have to be a run, it can be a 3 yd pass to get the 1st down on 2nd and 2

The Eagles were bringing a lot of guys to the line and then bailing. I have no idea what front they were in but if they show me that then I am fine with taking a shot down field.

If you want to go ultraconservative then fine. I imagine you were happy when they ran up the gut against the 11 man front on the Tanner TD.

Yeah, I noticed that, it's like we reverted to last year when that was the norm.

Every play. And Philadelphia never had the ball with a chance to take the lead once it was 10-0. Never. Not once.

But we almost lost. Your story man, you tell it.

I said they could have made it close if they got a TD and made it 10-7 after Romo's pick but good thing the defense held. Next week bad play calling may not lead to a win

Not a single bit of this equates to "almost led to a loss".

Just admit you were being hyperbolic and let it go. Yes it was close for a while, but we never "almost lost".

Like I said, once we had 10 points, they NEVER had the ball with a chance to take the lead. This nonsense about what they "could" have done is irrelevant.

You just wanna ***** and moan.

Good play calling is about setting up options for future plays. If you throw it deep every time you get 2nd and 2, there is no disguise as to what you are going to do. And if you miss it, now you have a tricky 3rd and 2 which can stall out your drive. And in the end, if you can get more first downs than your opponent, you're typically going to win the game. That's really how the West Coast Offense evolved. It was Bill Walsh seeing that tallying more first downs than the opponent will likely win you the game.

My issue with the playcalling is that we kept using shotgun and even worse, empty backfield...particularly on 1st and 2nd down. The entire defense knows you're not going to run the ball. And now they can come up with all of these different blitzes. It wasn't like the offense was shredding the Eagles using shotgun and empty backfield sets. In fact, Romo kept getting hit.

And we still snap the ball at the last .00001 seconds when we are on the road. It may work early on, but in the end it will hurt the team. We saw this today as Romo started to get into the habit of doing that and in the end he threw a pick. When we got the ball back, we started snapping the ball earlier and drove right down and scored a TD.

To me, it's a triad of Garrett-Callahan-Romo that worries me. Callahan calls to many pass plays, shot guns and empty backfields. Romo likes to audible out of running plays the hint of a blitz and audibles too much. And Garrett doesn't keep them in check.

I am usually am a big advocate of more balance and running the ball even with it's not working at the start of a game. I can't fault the coaching staff for trying to air it out against the Eagles because the Eagles have a horrible pass defense. I was really disappointed the Cowboys couldn't take advantage of the Eagles' shortcomings more than they did. However; the Cowboys were supposed to have a horrible pass defense as well and you wouldn't know it by their last two games.

It's a win against the Eagles. My most hated team, so I'm very happy.

The one only thing that frustrated me was we seem to get back the penalty problem.
The horrible play calling through out the game which almost led to a loss. I just can;'t understand why if we get a nice 15-20 gain on 2nd down, why do we pass on the next play? I was so irritated with the call to pass on 2nd and 2 at midfield because we probably could have scored on that drive. The defense was very strong and impressive today but the only thing i hate seeing is Romo with those step back throws that can get picked off along with the dumb play calling. And why does Romo have to be in shotgun formation on 1st down?

Just seems like we were doing everything we could not to run the ball and drain the clock. But like I said It's a win and I will take it and the 1st place lead in the division[/quot

Garrett doesn't hold them in check, because Garrett has no clue... He's already demonstrated that...

You are right, we never almost gave up the game because the eagles scored no TD's. But you can't tell me that after Romo's pick and the eagles were in the redzone u were not concerned?
