Jerry says he's not drafting a qb early in next years draft

The key word here is early . . . that's not to say we wouldn't draft one in about the 4th round or so. Other major weaknesses would certainly seem to preclude taking a QB in the first three rounds. DT and DE are two of them that come to mind.

Jerry Jerry Jerry.... This guy never learns. To be fair I think the 2015 QB crop will be much better if the names stay in school after this year is done.

I remember when Parcells made Romo the starter. Jerry didn't seem to be that behind it at the time.

You talking about when they benched Bledsoe for good on the MNF game against the Giants? I remember that. Bledsoe threw a costly pick at the goal line right before half and that was the end of his time here.

But that would never happen now. Parcells had the ability and leash to make those decisions. No way Jerry would allow Wade or Garrett to make that same decision.

Yea I remember Jerry commenting and he wasn't sure it was the right move. You're right. No coach since then has had the power to bench a QB.

I remember hearing these same excuses late in Troy's career and even right after he retired. But the successful teams in the league don't wait til they are desperate, they plan ahead. Doesn't even have to be a 1st rounder. I've seen several quality QB's recently that were drafted in rounds 2-4.

That would actually take the scout department and coaches to know what they are doing. We don't have that. And we have Jerry pretty much the voice in the draft. It takes a lot of research to try and hit on a QB in the later rounds. Starting with 3 and after. Jerry was the one who traded up to take Quincy in the 2nd round, when a lot of people had him as a 6th round talent.

Exactly. Keep building the trenches and the rest will fall into place behind them.

Unless a top QB falls in the draft i don't expect the Cowboys to get a QB. Frankly i would rather see resorces used on DL and OL.

All the good prosects will be gone by the time Dallas is on the clock and you do not want to reach for a QB when you are in position to grab a better overall player. Now is someone like Carr is there, Dallas will take a QB.

So which is it? Jerry the awful GM without the skills to find a QB or Jerry the GM good enough to find a gem in the later rounds?

It shouldn't take much to find see a QB in rounds 2-4. Andy Dalton? Kaepernick? Foles? Cousins? And that's just off the top of my head from recent years.
But I know one way to not find a QB, and that is to not try. We've only drafted 2 in nearly 20 years - Quincy and Stephen McGee. Smart teams would at least use a mid to late rounder on a QB every 2-3 years, unless they are totally set.

Right, just get used to more 8-8 or worse type seasons while we keep the same coach and same QB. What is the definition of insanity again?

God have mercy on this team for the next few years. 8-8 seasons and the 17th overall pick every year until Romo retires

I did this research for just such occasions. Since the league expanded from 28 teams to 30 in 1995, these are all of the teams that ranked 20th or worse in consecutive seasons in both defensive passer rating and rushing TD.

Since when is the 2nd and 3rd round deemed "later rounds". And no, I have zero faith in Jerry actually finding any gems. But maybe if Jerry listened to his scouts occasionally instead of Lacewell and Switzer then we could possibly find a quality QB on day 2. But I would actually look in the 1st, but not opposed to the 2nd or 3rd round. Of course you first have to want to look at the QB's in the draft which Jerry seems to have zero desire to do so.

After last years Escobar drafting who the heck can predict what they'll do?

First pick has turned out to be golden. The rest meh.

yeah, lets draft someone to carry a clipboard and pay first round money to for however many years when we have the worst defense in history. We have some real geniuses around here.

This is a VERY DEEP QB draft. We should get somebody to at least compete..

You do realize there is more than 1 round in the draft, right?

I understand that but I also realize how hard it is to find a legit franchise QB. To expect one to fall in your lap when you have an immediate need for one is pretty foolish.

When you have a QB in his 30's with back issues and your scouting department is telling you when you're on the clock that the QB at the top of our board has franchise potential, I don't know how you turn that down.

I think I'd be willing to burn a 1st round pick to avoid a repeat of the years between Aikman and Romo.
