Jerry says he's not drafting a qb early in next years draft

So your plan would be to wait until the last possible moment to draft a qb and just pray that there are some good ones coming out that year.....those who forget history are condemned to repeat it.

This is exactly how Jerry operates; he reacts to problems only when they become a crisis instead of anticipating and steadily upgrading talent, except when it comes to TE and WR. See the OL and DL for examples 1 and 2.

You would think that experience would have Jerry thinking QB in the upcoming draft especially with Romo having just undergone his second back surgery in only 7 months. Aikman lost a lot of his mobility after his back surgery and according to him about 15 yards off his deep ball. Aikman's back is part of what retired him. Mobility/escapability is a big part of what makes Romo so effective and who knows if he'll have the same elusiveness after this surgery. I'm not saying draft a QB with our #1 pick but I wouldn't hesitate using a #2 on a QB if one warrants the pick.

I would rather use a #2 on a QB than keep wasting them on TE's that never pan out. If I was Jerry I would feel a little nervous right now with Romo who'll be 34 next season undergoing his second back surgery since May. If Orton doesn't play well on Sunday Night you can bet the Cowboys will have their eye on a QB during the offseason. They have to have a contingency plan in the event Romo has any setbacks and isn't ready to start the 2014 season.

My thinking as well. Of course, there is 5 months between now and the draft. A lot can change, and most likely will. And even if he is thinking of drafting another QB behind closed doors, no sense in coming out with that now. Just means more smoke and garbage.

I'm not sure why anyone takes anything Jerry says with more than a grain of salt. He might as well say: "blah gloo gloo daa da didi batta dip da dee doo."

Blah, what a lame season.

Why would he be honest about his draft desires? That would be beyond dumb to tell other teams your clear intentions.

I agree with Jerry... We are still trying to find that tight end who will take us to the glory land with this offense... Once he's found the mixing piece of the puzzle, lights out rest of the league.

Well..

Its been a queer deck of cards dealt us ever since the Parcells departure.

So why not more of the same.

After Sunday the season will be over and it all begins again.

Garrett interviewed for a job and did not get it so he stayed here. And we are paying the price. He's had one good season and that was 2007. And even then, he was overrated. We had a very solid OL, good running game and a solid defense. He was not this offensive genius people were claiming at the time.

Now he has been exposed. He can't develop any type of gameplan and has no feel for the flow of the game and how to adjust.

Yep, people talk Ozzie Newsome but forget that when I believe it was the Rams were supposedly set on hiring JG becoming the HC, and their front office got inundated with phone calls of anger. The organization then proceeded to deny any move had been made and rejected Garrett as a choice.

49ers are a good example of a strong HC with a disciplined defense overcoming incompetent QB play for a few years. Problem is, we have neither. Romo is an example of a QB that overcomes an incompetent HC. But only that gets you so far.

Aikman was the consensus number one pick. He fell into Jerry's lap. Landry was gonna draft him anyway.

Aaron Murray or Jimmy Garoppolo in 4th or 5th round and put him on IR for a year to let him fully recover from his ACL tear while not taking up a roster spot. This is my feeling.

I'm def interested in Murray in the 4th or 5th rd and I think we would be lucky because of the injury to nab a guy like him. Yeah maybe they don't want the world to know they are interested in looking at a QB in 14. But really this is the right year to do it.

After signing Romo to a huge extension this past offseason I'm sure drafting a QB high in the draft wasn't something Jerry anticipated but with questions about Romo starting the season due to back surgery and now missing the most critical game of the season with a second back surgery he has to be thinking QB entering the offseason. The Cowboys entered the 2013 season counting on both Ratliff and Spencer who had injuries at the end of the 2012 season and both suffered setbacks that foiled their 2013 season with the team.

The Cowboys can ill afford to be caught off guard at QB if Romo can't go next season or is forced to miss games because of his back. If Orton stinks on Sunday Night ala Brad Johnson there's no doubt QB will be high on the Cowboys list this offseason. They have to have a QB behind Romo they have confidence they can be competitive with if he continues to have issues with his back.

Outside of Russel Wilson who is a unicorn in that he is a perfect prospect other than height the failure rate for non top 40 quarterbacks is very high.

Getting Mike Glennon does not help you much. Glennon is probably a young Orton and that gets you just good enough not to draft the Luck Winston's or. Ryan's

I don't understand the Aaron Murray hype, The guy hasn't won a big game his entire college career at UGA. He's basically Romo of the SEC, puts up good numbers without jack to show for it. You don't replace Romo with Romo 2.0..

Look at where Romo came from. You can't find a QB if you don't try. Either way, you can develop QBs who push the starter, can play well in a backup role, and maybe could become a franchise guy. The Eagles drafted Kolb, who played well when they needed him, and then flipped him for a CB and 2nd rounder. They also drafted Foles when Vick was the clear starter. It never hurts to have young QBs developing.
