Romo Update: Back Surgery may have found additional complication, but team confident in return

Just as an aside;

This potential nerve issue was tweeted during the week of the game. I forget the source, but he essentially said the source was Tony's wife and was saying that the sources feeding them the notion he is gonna play is hogwash. It was already known he couldn't play based on it.

his brother in law Chace Crawfored was quoted as saying Tony had floating fragment near spine and risked paralysis.

If i was Jerry Romo would be a guy id ask to take a serious pay cut

Seriously....he plays like a bus driver, holding onto the ball, and then dink and dunking it. Then throws 2 yard out routes to witten on 3rd and 8. Regardless if it's the play call or not.

Do we really think it will get any better?? Especially with this? Take a pay cut man, and we need to draft a QB and when I say draft a QB I mean 1st round or early second via trade....

I know we all want D-line and front 7 help. That won't mean much if we have Brad Johnson at QB

That's the scheme they run with Callahan calling the plays.

Sorry but it ain't changing no matter who is throwing the ball.

And why would Tony Romo take a pay cut? He's on his final contract and has earned what he makes.

With a legitimate front 7 this team is in the playoffs.

Yeah, Romo won't be around for much longer. Will be yet another player we gave the farm to who will not be returning the favor.

This coming from someone who cheers everytime Dallas loses so he can put the blame on Romo and only Romo.

He should take a pay cut, just like Brady has, who is arguably head and shoulders above Tony, for what's best for the team. Why Handicap us, when it is clear you can't do it alone, or with a little bit of help?

Of all the players on this team who should take a pay cut Tony Romo isn't one do them. Dude's torn his body apart carrying this team.

Let him come back next year healthy and see what he does. I think he'll be fine.

I doubt a floating fragment of disc would cause paralysis but it's possible. This is not a big deal until it becomes a big deal which is much less likely than likely. Upon awakening he would know if the nerve root is decompressed which the surgeon would know before closing. Unless he gets an infection or significant scar tissue he should do fine. We'll see. We should know well before the draft how he's doing.

Generally the drop off for top notch QBs is 38+. More don't do well after that point but there are exceptions. Romo's game makes me think he can go to 38-39.

Off on his throws? What? Have you seen his stats?

He put up good stats, but there were several times when you could tell he didn't really have the zip or the strength on his throws. Like in the GB game, when he was underthrowing Dez repeatedly on deep throws.

He wasn't trying to throw those passes any harder though. It wasn't that he couldn't, he chose not to.

I know man.. I was being sarcastic. :)

lol @ Romo going to 38 or 39. I would be willing to bet money he doesn't.

Then, there is this from the article:

"The Cowboys insist that this surgery is unrelated to last spring’s “cyst removal’’ that was performed on May 22 and kept Romo from practicing with the team until July 22. But in fact, sources say that operation was “spine-involved’’ as well (likely a partial discectomy to remove disc pressure on a nerve)."

discectomy disc·ec·to·my (dĭs-kěk'tə-mē)
n.
The partial or complete excision of an intervertebral disk. Also called discotomy .

The previous surgery was excision of a pilonidal cyst. That does lie adjacent to the spine, but it's not at all associated with the disc or nerve roots.

The pressure of herniated fibrous material on a nerve is the cause of palsy, which is only temporary if relieved early.

This entire scenario is no different than Peyton's neck, and he's doing pretty good.

They need to draft a QB this year. All this back talk about Tony sounds serious & job threatening.

Nonsense. The team is not worried. Repeat. The team is not worried.

They were not worried about Spencer or Ratliff either.

When they say they are not worried, it might be time to start worrying.

My dog has that same problem in her neck. It is pretty debilitating.
