Steve Mariucci on NFL Network

So we have a double-barrel coaching attack featuring Coach Jones and then his sidekick, Assistant Coach Garrett, right? Meanwhile, I think three playoff teams have a head coach in his first year with the team. Sad as it is to think about, am I right about this? Chargers, Chiefs and Eagles all with new head coaches right?

Atta boy, Coach Jones. Keep up the great work, big guy.

Steve Mariucci just says....

"When your front office wants to start telling you, as the head coach, who will be on your staff...it is time for you to move on."

I agree. You?

Welp it its like this: I agree with Mooch. However you need somewhere else to move on to. Thats the disconect. Doubt ginger is on the short list as next HC in many other NFL cities.

I think Garrett would gain credibility around the league if he made that stance...other Owners/gm's might not think him the fool that most everyone else does that does not have the last name of jones

Before someone doubts me, did I accurately relay this discussion on NFL Network?

You were spot on. Marriucci even stated he faced something similar that made him leave San Fran. Stated it was even in his contract and yet the owner/GM/whoever still tried to meddle.

I agree completely....if I'm Garrett, I walk in to Jerry's office with a list of Head coach controlling demands and if Jerry doesn't agree, I'd resign immediately...staying here now at this point is only going to hurt Garrett's ability to get a job somewhere else, whether as a head coach or a coordinator or QB coach

Not really.

There has to be at least 500 HS HC positions available once Garrett posts on Career Builder.

I agree with Mooch. Control of my staff would be a dealbreaker for me.

Garrett can't turn around and ask for a different set of parameters for himself - after all, he was foisted upon Wade. And like somebody else said, when you know your next job would likely be a multi-million drop in pay and status, you just continue to ride the ride. Nothing I've seen in Garrett says he has any real kahunas going all the way back to his "dress code" that Barber promptly ignored without repercussion. Barber didn't even get a cut in playing time or miss a start. Garrett is paper mache all the way. All fluff, no substance. All of which, along with my what I mentioned above, makes him incapable of even considering Mariucci's stance.

if live would be just that easy.

I hear you bro. But, it sounds like maybe Mike Munchak with the Titans took a stand. They've had meeting with him and it was up in there about his return; now its been announced that he has been fired. NFL Network is suggesting that management would've kept him but wanted to make changes to Munchak's staff...and Munchak said....Nope, if I dont get the staff I want..then fire me. If this is the case, I give the man credit for standing up for what he believes in.

Just think, our guy fired his brother (for no reason and he did a good job in Tampa with their wr) because the old man told him to.

Then he allowed outsiders to hire his dc.

Yes man collecting as much cash as he can before he is sent off.

And the owner here is cheap and does not want to pay quality coaches. Nor does he respect what they do for a living.

Garrett would have resigned last year if he was ever going to, but of course not.

Garrett must have pissed too when he took the OC job well before Jerry hired Wade.

Not many businesses where a manager gets to fire the entire staff and bring in a new one. But there aren't many businesses where a manager is held so accountable for performance.

Look no further than broadcasting. Happens all the time with format changes.

No coach that comes to dallas will get to bring in thier own staff They will get to bring in some but not entire staff

I believe Mariucci's point was that there is no group vote and there is no discussion and there is no debate.. If the head coach doesnt get to pick his staff, then he should hit the road.

Sounds nice, but Ignores reality. Alot of folks on these forums seem to forget that the owner pays everyone, not just a head coach. If you think there's a coach in the NFL who can hold an organization hostage, you're dreaming. They're all expendable. Belicheck may be the closest to an exception, but owners still control it all. Look at the turnover of coaches and tell me Mariucci isnt full of crap. It sucks to be unemployed as a coach..just ask him.

Right. I agree. I feel that way about Romo too....i know contracts and money play a big role , but if i am to it romo, I want a chance to win right now! I would risk a few million for that chance......

But. They aren't going to do "all that" now are they??? Why would they ?

Agree...And you can throw in when the front office is telling you who is gonna call the plays as well. We saw last year how Jerry lopped off one Garrett's nut by taking away the play calling. Now Jerry finishes the job by telling Garrett who is gonna be on the staff.

How can a team possibly respect this man when they know he holds no power what-so-ever????
