you guys are the most reactionary bunch

HE SMOKES WEED DON'T DRAFT HIM HE IS DUMB BECAUSE HE DOESN'T HAVE ENOUGH FORESIGHT TO STOP FAR ENOUGH OUT TO PASS THE DRUG TEST!!!

most of these guys smoke weed, and the rest have at least one other substance that is banned for one reason or another in their body at any given time.

the majority of Americans want the substance legalized, two states have done it, half have it as a prescribe-able, the majority of Americans take some sort of medication daily for pain relief or any number of other ailments but lets over look this guy who can do something at his size that few people on this earth can do because he couldn't hide his drug use well enough.

smh, all I can hope is that the powers that be in the cowboys organization have a little more sense and can capitalize on his mistake and get a first round talent at a position of need at a discount.

My doctor told me that kids that smoke weed a lot before when they're young often do not ever mature beyond that age in their lives emotionally or in their judgment skills. And at least in my life experiences, my buddies in high school and college that were always smoking weed have gone absolutely nowhere.

Thats a fairly poor assumption

He said that smoking weed doesn't have a noticeable impact on the brain once it's fully developed, but when it's still developing, it can stop that development in its tracks. I can tell you that folks I knew of in high school have barely matured at all, and they're in their 40s now. There are always exceptions; I just don't know of any from my youth.

It's not an assumption. There was recently a study released that supported that statement. Apparently, according to the report, weed effects younger brain development more severely then older adults. Why I don't know but the report did support that.

wow...he's a wise man because that's a fact. Look at all the research on it. My experience has been similar and I coach/mentor kids almost every DAY not to do it as a teen. Their brains are developing and it wreaks HAVOC on their brain. One of many articles on the subject:

some of these people don't 'google' very well. Been LOTS of studies that back it up. Too many to post here. Also look up the link between chronic depression and anxiety in adults that were pot smokers as teens...it's off the hook. I know more than a few people that have had horrible bouts with both that smoked alot in high school.

...and the same can be said for alcohol (probably more so). Most teenagers are going to drink. The effects of both are overblown when compared with the environmental toxins, prescription drugs, and, artificial food additives no one seems to have a problem with.

Diluted sample = failed test. 19 times out of 20 it means someone was drinking mass amounts of liquid to cover up. Won't get into my background, but trust me -- it's the same as a positive urine.

I'll preface my response by saying I've never tried drugs, not even marijuana. With that said, I think it's pretty presumptuous of the league, media and fans to treat over hydration as a failed test. I routinely drink over a gallon of water a day because I run a lot. By the NFL standards, I -- someone who's never as much as touched a joint -- would be treated as a substance abuse offender simply due to the volume of water that I intake daily. Is it really that improbable that world class athletes would drink similar quantities of water the night before the most important workout of their lives?

Good point. I'm curious at the time frame from when they are informed that they must take the test to when they must submit the sample.

That sucks because I smoked weed every day in high school and now the #5 school in the country is about to hand me a PhD. Maybe I should let them know the facts before they make a huge mistake.

It depends on how much dilution is acceptable. There probably is an acceptable level/threshold that was not met by these particular guys. They realize most athletes are going to hydrate before and during the combine if they are smart. There probably is a difference between over hydration and diluted samples. They've been administering these tests long enough to know that difference.

Just send them a copy of your posts on here and it will be obvious. :D Congrats.

I would prefer to draft a 1 tech in the mid to later rounds. These gus are bigger and look just as quick or quicker than Jernigan.
Justin Ellis
Zack Kerr
Ken Bishop

Good list. Recently heard the Chiefs really like Kerr to back up Poe who had a lot of snaps last season - too many. They've had him in for a visit. Has the quick twitch Marinelli looks for - would be a nice mid-round pick-up. Don't have too much info on the other two.

Good point, and you're right. You also have to consider the profession that these individuals are in. Were this in some other (non-athletic) walk of life, it would be more suspicious.

With that said, however, don't you think this sort of thing would come up a LOT more often? Are we to assume that only Tim Jernigan (and the others) are drinking lots of water? I don't know, but there's still reason to be suspicious I think.

Kerr is big, quick and intense.

Bishop dominates low level competition to the point that it's almost unbelieveable.

Ellis looks like a Nix clone but is a little quicker.

Congratulations on your PHD- that is one heck of an accomplishment.
