You'd have to wait for me to be wrong.

Where are all the others admitting they are wrong every year supporting bad decisions with this team?

Well, you can count me out on this one because I don't come here with an all knowing attitude about every player so I don't have to come back.

Cornerbacks are irrelevant....

No. I supported it. Had him in my top 50 value board last year and mocked him to the bottom of the first round in one of our user mocks.

Swing and a miss.

Umm its really too bad that there is not a search function because i distinctly remember you saying that while you liked the prospect you thought he was a severe reach.

I remember because it was when I was making fun of you for taking Kipers board and adding about +7 to the OL/DL rankings.

You liked Fred but you spoke against the timing of the pick.

Why do people think other teams, or even this team, play one coverage consistently? Every team mixes up their coverages. Otherwise they'd get toasted. Seattle doesn't play one coverage consistently.

Not surprised that we hear that several teams were about to take a player we moved up to take. You here this everytime the team moves up to take a player.

I see a backup and ST player at this point. Yes he was productive at Iowa but there is nothing that I see right now that makes me think he could be an outstanding WOLB or a MLB in a Tampa2. His 3Cone and shuttle are not all that great, 4.45 and 7.15 respectively. That's not in the top 10 for his position. His 40 is not great, although he does have a good 10 yard split. His 20 split is also not all that good. Short area quickness. He doesn't have really long arms and he's pretty short at 6'0".

None of this means that he can't be a great player for us some day but all of this means that he is limited physically and that will not help him. I don't mind drafting the player but I don't see the wisdom in moving up to take him. If, as is being reported, other teams had interest in him, let them spend a 4th on him. I think he would have been there later and if not, plenty of good players on the board we could have used.

I did not like this move much at all. Doesn't mean I won't pull for the guy. I will but it was stupid, IMO, to move up for him in the 4th.

JMO

We didn't move up but the point still remains. Horrible value with that pick. I wouldn't have taken him at 254, to be honest with you.

I knew he was about to be drafted by several teams as soon as we took him. The same way Matt Johnson was secretly coveted.

I can get making sure we have a good backup for Lee the way he keeps getting injured. Supposedly several other teams were interested; to me the question would be WHAT round were those teams ready to take him?

Well unless Spagnola and the guy in the Op are lying then they were. It is what it is.

And the Seahawks and 49ers are two teams that our defensive coaches have stated they get ideas from. They are the two best 4-3 teams in the league over the last several years too.

Spangnola is a mouth piece and the guy in the op, I have no idea what is credentials are but doesn't matter. If all of these teams were planning to take him in the 4th, which I see no proof of BTW and only hearsay, then fine. Let them. Those teams are in a different position then we are. SF has a million picks so they can afford to burn some. Sea Hawks, 49ers and Rams are stacked so they are likely looking for backups and not starters. The Card, well, I would hope that we are not trying to draft like the Cards. They have not shown that they can win anything so I would hope that we are trying to do it different.

doesn't matter. If you choose to believe the op, then it is what it is. If you look at the player and what he projects to, then I don't think you can see the logic in taking him in the 4th.

That's just my opinion.

I do too.......swing, hits and its outta here

Have fun pretending. Those that pay attention know better. There wasn't a bigger proponent of Travis Frederick on this board and this was.....before.....the Cowboys drafted him.

Get ready to be further annoyed. I even predicted he'd be on the all rookie team.

I still don't like the pick, but this info at least makes me feel a little better about it. Hopefully Hitchens will help keep the defense from crumbling into oblivion when Lee inevitably goes down.

People need to remember though that the Cowboys certainly don't have a monopoly of reaching for players in the middle rounds, or even the early rounds for that matter.

Commanders drafted a guard in the 3rd round that was projected to go in the 6th.

Giants drafted a DT in the 3rd that was was also projected to go in the 6th.

Eagles drafted a WR in the 3rd that was projected to go around the 7th.

And as brooksey1 pointed out, Seattle drafted a borderline UDFA prospect in the 2nd round.

I would agree with that. Every team has their own board and it is 100% correct that they follow them. Honestly, I don't fault the Cowboys for following what their paid personnel are stating they should do. Having said that, I see no fault from posters posting their dislike of the pick, good or bad.

I'm enjoying the comments and debate in this thread by all.
Good show guys!

As for the player- I never react to draft decisions like this.
I shrug my shoulders and hope for the best.

Of course one never likes to hear the term "Reach" when their team makes a draft choice. Especially "Big Reach", but the milk has been spilled and no FO is infallible- every team makes picks that appear to be reaches almost every year.
Sometimes they are validated (Frederick), sometimes they are exposed for making a bad pick (Stanback, et al...)- like every other team in the league.

I know the Cowboys brain-trust has a less than stellar record, but they have been generally getting better and it appeared that there was more synergy going on over the War-cam (JG still looked like a lost child for much of the time, but that's for another conversation) than last year and more healthy discussions were happening than arguments, but that is all guess-work from superficial visual observation so take that for what it's worth.

I watched some cutups of Hitchens: he looks like what everybody has already said in this thread. A decent player with some good things and some real flaws that will have to be dealt with. I think it all falls on the guy's desire to make himself as good as he can be- he's no Julius Peppers, but he can carve out a nice NFL career and hopefully he helps the team by making some plays and filling in with good play covering injuries in the coming seasons.

Maybe a couple of splash plays on Teams a year too would be nice also.

Fair reasoning here.. i'm hoping he's one of those guys that dropped because of his measurables, but his production on the field trumps all that combine stuff.

I cannot speak to our division rivals but Seattle I think has earned the benefit of the doubt regarding their picks that buck the draft cottage industry.

I would agree with that. We can all hope that this pick will start an upward trend for Dallas in the 4th. I have no problems admitting that I am wrong and would gladly do so if he turns into a player for us.

Does Mr Insider Birddog26 ever say anything negative about the team?

I have no idea. I am sure you already have your answer so why bother asking? This isn't something 'nice' as what he is saying is not a value judgment. A team either has interest and is prepared to draft or is not.

If you want to say that he is intentionally misleading us then fine but the innuendo is tiresome.

You'll be over there looking silly.. as usual.

Its amazing with all of your knowledge that you haven't been signed as a scout to an NFL front office yet, you know.. since you told everyone that Tony Romo would be a superstar and Miles Austin would too, and all.

lol

I go through this nonsense every. single. time. the Cowboys make a boneheaded decision and I refuse to pretend it's a good one. It's the same tired nonsensical argument from the cheerleader fans. They just can't stand how right I am.

I apologize for knowing Tony Romo and Miles Austin pre-draft and calling them sleepers. In the future I'll try to remain clueless and google search draft picks to fit in with the crowd.

I dont see him as a backup. At first, yeah, but later he should push for a job. Maybe sooner.

I dunno but hopefully he's another Holloman. Dallas had zero depth @ LB and thankfully landed a couple of decent prospects. Hitchens may surprise some of his compared measurables were as good as the top prospects and his durability is well noted.

He doesn't seem that good but you never know. He has a legit shot. Our lb core is terrible I dont see how he and will smith couldnt improve it.

My exact thought when they were high diving in the draft room. Same reaction, same round, same alibi.
I'm not doubting that they were led to believe someone was also looking to take the player...almost certainly information coming from the agent...but the reach was not 1/2 round, it was 2-3 full rounds.

Snookered

He's a Cowboy now, so I just hoping they were right.
