Jerry Jones: It’s not just optimism, it’s a fact that we’re better

The offensive line has gotten better....this teams best defense is going to be its offense. They are going to have to consistently put up points and use that running game to keep defenses off the field.

I don't really buy that too much, you have to put your defense on the field at some point. And if we are going to be committed to running the ball, we have a rb who is always injured.

Cowboys owner and General Manager Jerry Jones has no doubts that his team is better right now than it was last season.

Jones said after the NFL draft that it’s clear to him that the Cowboys’ roster is stronger than it was in 2013, when Dallas completed its third consecutive 8-8 season.

Yes, we are better,” Jones said. “There’s no question about that. Relative to where we played last year, we’ve had a very impactful draft.

Better is a relative term.

You're right. But the defense was on the field far too much last year. I mean in the Saints game.....they had 40 1st downs.....the defense simply couldn't stay off the field despite getting a grip of turnovers that would sometime result into a field goal. The defense just needs to make a few stops a game. That's it. Get a few sacks. We're not going to be the Seahawks anytime soon. But i'm just focused on getting off the field on 3rd downs right now.

Our offense didn't exactly come to play in the saints game either. With our offense we need to get a few stops but that is easier said than done, I still am uncertain about our dl and safeties.

Gotta good feeling about the upcoming season. Haven't felt this good about the team since 2009(maybe 2011. Which we should've won 11 gms). I love most have already counted us out. Seen someone put us in the top 10 of next years draft.

I think we're 6-10 at worst and 9-7 at best.

Unless we have an advatantage schematically this year then I don't see much changing.

Well that's exactly my point which is why I said our offense can essentially be our best defense. Constantly grind it out and use the running game will help the defense tremendously.

I could see us being 6-10 and I could see us being 13-3. It simply depends on how our youth develops. A lot of our holes we have on this team can simply be upgraded if guys continue to progress and get better. If Sean Lee gets better, if Demarco gets better, if Dez gets better, if Claiborne gets better, etc. Its a whole new team. If they're as good as they were last year and no progression? Expect another 8-8 or worse season. This upcoming season was never dependent on our free agents or rookie class. Though they can definitely help. But this is the time now where your past drafts can either benefit you or help you.

Regardless of what a Jerry says, and people have legit reason rolls eyes at his constant optimism,

I DO think they will be better.

It's not just based on hope either.

As always, time will tell one way or the other.

That is only going to work if Murray stays healthy. Otherwise get ready to throw it on every down.

The problem is I have zero confidence Red can keep his finger of the pass button for more than 20 seconds at a time. We've seen it time and time again, even when the running game was working fine.

Better luck with injuries will make a huge difference. If so, Marinelli will have a chance to coach up this defense to a middle-of-the-pack group which will be a major improvement.

Better luck with injuries plus the new additions should definitely make us middle of the road and that's huge for one season

Yes, if we can stay healthy, we're definitely better. But we've got to prove it too. Saying and actually doing do not go hand in hand.

I understand. I'm just banking on the coaching staff going with what worked last seasona dn what didn't work. If we're basing it on past coaching.......we can expect 20 or so runs from Demarco......we need more.
