Jerry can say anything, you really believe that Will and Rod had no say about Hitchens? Haha

go listen to the call when he was picked, jerry says bassica laid on the train track for him then bassica tells him that he was picked because he knows a guy that vouched for him

not only that, we had 3rd round grades on the board but they went with this guy with the 4th round grade going against their board cause bassica wanted him

Again do you think Rod and Will didn't have any input you are kidding yourself. They are in a room together talking about prospects, but yet this one was based solely on a guy that vouched for him......haha ya ok

Drinking kool-aid, *** are you talking about. This conversation isn't going anywhere because if you really think that Cowboys coaches, scouts, owner or anybody else that helps in the war room didn't talk or mention this guy then you are just in denial

one coach stood on a table for this guy and told the decision maker to go against moths of preparations and take this guy when they've shown that they are willing to move up to get higher rated guys on their board that fall into a lower round. You are the one in denial.

Maybe you didn't understand, I'm not talking about where he was rated or even if they had him on the board. I'm saying when one person stood up was it just him that made the decision, took the phone from Jerry and made the pick? Or maybe just maybe other scouts and coaches was in the room heard what he said then they agreed? Hmm mm ya you in denial

One of the givens every year in the draft, is that once you get to mid rounds, you'll see many "Mel's Best Available" still popping up on the screen for at least a round or two.

Terrance Mitchell was sitting in that Top ten of Mels literally all day and we got him in the 7th. Just switch where they were drafted in your mind and let it go. They both got drafted and may be able to help. Armchair scouts are so ridiculous. Grading guys they never watched any tape on prior to draft. And when they do watch it it's with an opinion they've already made on a guy so of course he looks bad. Stop listening to Kiper and Mcshay and "experts" that have never met these players.

Does Is a 4th rounder in the 7th negate a 7th rounder in the 4th?

No, at the end of the day, it's all about getting guys that can play and help your team win games. I see what you're saying, and I don't really know why we took a guy in the 4th that could have likely been taken a lot later, but just going by where guys are ranked on a board doesn't ensure anything one way or the other. You could reach for guys who turn out to be great, or you could take guys where they're ranked or later than they're ranked, and they end up being bums. Getting good "value" during the draft is nice, but it doesn't necessarily amount to anything.

I mean, Seattle took Sherman in the 5th round, but at the same time, took James Carpenter in the 1st. If in the end, you put together a winning team, it really doesn't matter.
Yep, in 1995 the Cowboys drafted the "best LB in college football" Dana Howard, winner of the both the Dick Butkus and Jack Lambert award and he couldn't play a lick in the nfl. The other ILB on his team, John Holocek was drafted by the Bills and played 8 years. Kevin Hardy and Simeon Rice were the OLBs.

Hey BPA, no wait. Huge impact player, no wait.
Potential difference maker, no wait.

Hey it's the 4th round we are so good and deep let's just
draft a back LB because remember in the season when we
had to take a guy off the street because S. Lee is made of glass. Now,
we don't have to...whew! Load off me mind. Oh, and to boot they reached for him!

Champions make a living in rounds 4-7. Dallas drafts backups and ST.
How bout them Cowboys!

I agree. Telvin Smith and Caraun Reid sitting there and they start Undrafted free agency early. Like the rest of the picks, but this one has 09 draft written all over it.

Couple of things:

1) There are multiple reports that both the Niners and Seahawks were willing to draft him in the fourth. If you think we could have gotten them later you are wrong.
2) People complaining about drafting ST players need to watch the post draft press conference. They said they were out of the business of drafting special teams players. They would find developmental prospects and position players taht could play special teams.
3) People fail to understand the concept of mutual exclusivity. Sure Bissacia liked him but that does not mean that the defensive staff did not like him. A player can be good at both teams and a position.
4) Our special teams have improved significantly since Bissacia came on board. Why on Earth would you belittle his input when his arrival has helped us to win games?

Carry on with your handwringing because Kiper whoever you have do your ranking for you did not rank him highly.
