Contrary to belief, we're rebuilding

Even though I wanted Manziel, I'm glad we drafted for need(s). Look at the teams that are competing in our division (Panthers, 9ers, Seahawks) who all have recently rebuilt.. We're drafting exactly how they did, beef up the o-line/ d-line.

A lot of people wanted to take a safety in the first which is understandable, but not every team is going to have an Earl Thomas in the back; content with ours for now (church and Wilcox)

I think we'll contend again in 2-3 years. My hopes aren't high for this season bc I'm not going to disappoint myself, per usual.

Just my 2 Lincoln's.

The Cowboys are in no way shape or form rebuilding. If they were, they would've drafted Manziel. The Cowboys are trying to win now and drafted accordingly.

IMO, they've been rebuilding since Garrett took over. Now, they are closer to the end of the rebuild than the beginning.

Witten and Romo are the only over 30 players on the roster other than the deep snapper.

Not this again...

Every year prior to maybe this one, the majority of people predict a 10-6 or better record. Then when we underachieve again, people claim we were rebuilding.

And Garrett's about been here long enough that by the natural cycle of NFL team turnover, we're going to be cutting players that were acquired when he was the head coach. So the excuse of him purging players who he never wanted won't be there anymore.

I guess it depends on your definition of rebuilding, but if you think this teams goals don't include making the playoffs in 2014 you're crazy. You don't rebuild with a head coach in a contract year.

Other than browns, jags, raiders, who is really rebuilding? The nfl is the league where you can go from 5-11 to 11-5 in the blink of an eye. We were 8-8, this rebuilding talk is nonsense.Even the Vikings and Bucs think they have a chance to make the playoffs.

Aside from the fine folks at Valley Ranch, who believes we weren't/aren't rebuilding?

Unfortunately, how do we rebuild with a 34 year old QB coming off of two back surgeries?

I have a feeling we're going to see the end of Romo's playing days this year. Then we take the $20 mil cap hit and try to find our next franchise QB.

I think anyone paying attention had to realise that Dallas was pretty much rebuilding. You don't get rid of D-Ware if you're not rebuilding.

That has nothing to do with rebuilding. That was strictly a business decision. The cowboys would love to still have him, just not at his salary.

Well, we will get a lot of answers this season. If Carr, Claiborne and Wilcox do not make strides we are looking at overhauling the secondary again. If Carter does not take a leap and Lee finds himself on the treatment table again, then we will have to invest their too. That is another 2 off seasons right there. And then QB and running back will have to be looked at in all probability. It's not so much a rebuild. More like a metamorphosis. The key will actually be how vastly different in philosophies the next head coach is.

Like another poster said that was a business decision, plus they wouldn't have signed melton. The rebuilding notion will be an excuse thrown out by jerry if we go 6-10 this year.

*Shrugs* Whatever floats peoples boats. If Dallas wasn't rebuilding and honestly believed they were in contention for a real Superbowl run then that 'business decision' is made a completely different way. They'd have found a way to keep him and work something out if they thought they were serious contenders.

They know they're not, no matter what they're telling to the fans, and thus they dumped him and decided to move on.

I disagree. There were several factors that went into Ware's release not the least of which was his injury history. Combining that fact with his due salary and having no desire to restructure his deal there was only one logical choice to make and it had nothing to do with rebuilding. The rebuilding thought process went full steam ahead once an amicable deal couldn't be struck by both sides. If you think Jerry Jones goes into ANY season not thinking his team is a contender then you haven't been paying much attention, my friend. The Ware situation didn't just come up. It's been at the back of their minds for two seasons. This was just the breaking point. If Jones didn't plan to contend he never would have signed Romo to the long term deal that he did. It's not something they are selling to the fans. It's their plan full steam ahead right now. Whether it's successful or not remains to be seen but there's no way in the world Jones is going into this season with the mindset that they won't contend. That's not even debatable.

I know Jerry goes into every season telling everyone he believes were a contender. He does so to sell tickets and hope that we're finally over the hump.

There is no way the guy actually believe a third of what he spews to fans. He's just hoping that the fan base doesn't know he's selling them damaged goods and buys into the hype.

I just root for the cowboys rather I believe theyr'e going to be contenders or not isn't important. I'm going to root for them all the same either way.

When the team wins a couple games it will be ready and "rebuilt" and when they miss the playoffs again it will be "rebuilding"

There are a lot of teams out there that wish they had romo, dez, murray, and our o-line. Granted I don't think we are a playoff team, that doesn't mean this this team is rebuilding.

All new WR's, all new Oline, and now working on Dline....

How does that address the point? Our turnover has essentially been the same as the rest of the league. Turnover is natural, because of cutting costs, aging players reaching the end of their terms, and so forth. Miles Austin for example, leaves an open void because of a hamstring injury and now making room for costs. It's not like they didn't think they had their second WR.
