Matt Johnson Injured At Camp

"Bye" or "see ya" isn't less respectful than what we're seeing here. Unless you're talking about a guy like Rat who brought the disrespect on himself.

In any event, that's an aside. The guy wants to play and play well. He's on record saying the injury situation is frustrating and embarrassing. It's costing him a shot at lifelong dream. And it hurts our Safety depth. It doesn't kill us to show a little class when a player gets injured.

How Is it costing him? The 135 pick is not an automatic to make the squad but he has received 2 years worth of NFL checks from the Cowboys and may still make the team.If he is cut tomorrow he should consider himself one of the luckiest men alive.

I don't recall that particular thread from when he was drafted, but for my part, for the last two years I don't really see the guy getting any hype at all. He just can't stay on the field long enough to deserve the emotional investment. He's a whipping boy around here, I think, for other reasons that aren't related to his ability to play football.

Might not have been the title of the thread but it was a post that got it rolling. It might have a been a thread about not taking center or oline. Maybe I can search it out

Look I get the human compassion story and how it is an accomplishment for the Cowboys to reach, I mean, draft him

I don't.

I always thought these boards were about men talking football. This guy can't play, was a terrible pick and has only hurt the Dallas Cowboys. He shouldn't have been on the roster.

Don't mistake 'not being a jerk' with compassion and sensitivity. They're very different.

And I agree, I do also feel for every Cowboy hopeful who gets cut. Nobody typically disrespects them anyway, so I'm not sure the point is relevant, but I'd agree with you that there's no reason to treat those players badly, either.

The only reason this poor wretched hopeful gets the defense that countless similar circumstances have not is because of the profile. He was drafted and the team had an uncharacteristically high amount of patience with him. Danny Coale was drafted. Yet nobody cared when he was cut, mainly because there was zero hype. Johnson for some reason got adopted. Primarily because nobody, not the front office nor fans that rubber stamp every decision they make, was ready to admit a mistake.

Oh, no need to find it. I believe it happened. I just don't think that's why we get so much Johnson hate.

Well, I always root for any young man to live out his dream of playing in the NFL (preferably with the Cowboys), but I think it is time for Mr. Johnson, and the Cowboys organization, to come to the realization that playing football in the NFL (at least for the Cowboys) is not in his cards. This is beyond bad luck, this has reached ominous, paranormal heights...this is crazy!

He has some responsibility though. Obviously he was doing something wrong. If he were not, he would have done more than have a couple of practices and a series of exhibition football on his resume after three years. Crazy is right. I have never seen a case like it.

I don't think anybody will care all that much when Johnson is cut, either. But that's not what we're talking about.

Also not the point. You guys are really struggling with this for some reason.

Nice appeal to manliness, though. Though the boards are for Cowboys fans of both sexes.

I'm not struggling with anything. I'm just not interested in any compassionate plea for Matt Johnson's feelings.

There hasn't really been anything worse said about this guy. You're being overly sensitive either because you were one of the guys touting the guy or you have soft spot for adbutcher who is acting like he is his brother. I do remember a thread not long ago were many here railed on me because I said the guy wouldn't make it out of camp, and was a reach in the draft.

You may be on to something.

Johnson was one of those " oh...so you know more than the team?"...guys.

Yes. Apparently we do.

I don't hate the guy. I'm just tired of the Cowboys wasting space for a player that's always injured. I wish him the best but it's time to move on.

This is pretty much it. I'm not sure why a bunch of guys are making it about themselves rather than about the team or the player in this thread, but even if he goes on to become a great player in the league, it shouldn't be here. He's had ample opportunity to succeed and prove himself and has not done it, and it's time that we go in a different direction.

There are greater areas of need (or tryout) on this team than S. LB, DL.

Why is This guy still on the team. Sean lee is always hurt but proves when he's on the field he's dominate. This guy has a cult following almost and hasn't played a snap. Cut him and move on.

It is his metrics from school and/or the combine just like EVERYONE else that we're taking about. They had amble opportunity to see him here as well so it's not as if they have zero idea what his metrics are. Perhaps you're confusing that with stats.

I'm not interested in any conversation about him being useless since I've avoided that topic.

If you haven't played a real game in three years, you have no metrics any longer. If you can't go 3 days in a row without getting hurt, you have no metrics any longer. That's the point.

Looks like he and Lee can form a LLC or something. Lucky guys to have made it this far, but time for us to move on.

I heard it was a hammy, if that's all it is he should bounce back before the cuts. The kid has talent but he has to stay healthy.

Football is a rough sport most here talking trash about a player's injury status would not last a day in training camp during a full padded practice.

I pray for health and a speedy recovery for all injured players no need to ridicule.

I wish the best for him but has been dealing with hamstring injury each year. For his sake I hope this is minor and he can get going this week at practice. Cowboys do not have to make any cuts as of now so there is no need to cut him just yet but if this injury lingers then I think Dallas should move on.

He's Justin Beriault all over again. Was supposed to be the next Darren Woodson.....only to get injured and never take the field.
