Cowboys cut punter

Mandell had a distinct advantage when it came to distance but his consistency was lacking. Seems like we could do better than what we have in Chris Jones but evidently, we have enough serious problems to make this look relatively trivial in comparison.

It not punting that keep jones here, it's the fact that he is baileys holder

32.1 avg over the career or on Thursday?

On Thursday.......

In 2013 he regained his starting job and in his first full season finished with a 45-yard gross average, a 39.1-yard net average and 30 punts inside the 20-yard-line.

I've always thought we could find someone better.

20th overall in ave last year - that stat is deceiving though. Another yard per punt and he's in the top third.

He's a decent punter who does a nice job holding on FG. I don't see an issue here

Regained his starting job? Makes it sound like he lost the job. He didn't. He tore his ACL

As I have posted before - his stats are not bad. He won't lose you a game. The difference between punters is only a couple yards. He does a pretty good job of pinning opponents down with some decent hang time.

I have no issue with sticking with Jones. We did a terrific job last year on special teams overall. The FO deserves the benefit of the doubt in that area, and I'll give it to them. They've earned it, in my opinion.

***? Has to be a comfort thing between Jones and Bailey on kicks, because Mandell was 3 for 3 inside the 20 yd line in the preseason game, and hit it longer than Jones too. Head scratcher here.

I didn't hear Jones' name called last year for screwing up so as far as I'm concerned we're good there.

He only punted twice. The first was from the SD 48, so it's not going to be a long punt. He kicked it 31 yards to the 17, which is exactly what he's supposed to do. The second punt traveled 46 yards, but SD had a 13 yard return. Jones is no Shane Lechler, but he's fine, and he's the holder, which is huge.
