I thought for sure last year there's no way it can be this bad next year but it just might. I think this will still be a bottom 3 defense this year.

I would kill for Ware and Hatcher right now.

It's not that serious.

D will depend on Crawford and melton.

If Melton is what he was and if Crawford is legit, they'll be better than last year. If they aren't who we need them to be, then your looking at all time worst.

Reminds me of 2003, when we had 2 good DL(glover and Ellis) and about 10 average games from Willie Blade and they finished in the top 10 on D.

For me fans that dismiss what Ware could add to this defense this year or say they are glad he is gone have no credibility.

Every time I see your user name I think of this video clip:

With a Germanic Accent: "She has the tawney color, and a mane... but also the hooves. The Pony-Lion also does tricks... like this one!!!!!!!!! Look at it!!!! Look at the trick!!!!"

That's obscure, did it take you long to google videos that mention the word Tawney to come up with that sick burn?

Not only were Glover and Ellis a much better combo than Melton and Crawford, That D also had Newman, Roy Williams, Woodson, Coakley and Ngyuen.

This defense is nothing like that one.

This defense has some young players who will emerge.

If I had done that then it wouldn't make sense for me to say every time I read your user name I thought of that, now would it?

No, I saw it a while back on tv.

It is a super spiffy moniker though.

Oh I see, yeah no way you could have just made that up for your super sick burn. Kudos.

It isn't that big a stretch of the imagination to think that someone watches tv.

As a matter of fact you should probably do a search for Tawney to even see if that vid comes up. I seriously doubt it does.

Goodnight Tawney

Looks very similar to me honestly. Melton = Hatcher. Selvie = Selvie. The rest of it all = what we had in here en masse.

I just want to know why Ben Bass has not exerted his dominance yet .

Perhaps he is saving up.

I think the difference is that collectively they'll be able to put together a supporting cast that far exceeds that cast of misfits we watched late last year. And with Spencer, Lawrence, and maybe Brent on the come, there's hope that this could evolve positively as the season moves forward.

Pretty much says all I need to know--you don't know what you're talking about.

I'm sorry, but are you freaking simple? I mean seriously...
2013 Jason Hatcher. tackles-41. Asst. 5. Sacks- 11.0.

Henry Melton's Career Tackles- 89 Asst -16. Sacks-15.5

And Melton is coming off an acl tear.

Hatcher also did it on a team where he was the main play maker on the d. Melton played with studs all around him and didn't draw much for double teams.

"Studs all around him"? On the dline? You mean a declining Peppers? Just like Hatcher had a declining Ware?

1. Melton is 5 years younger. 5!
2. Jason Hatcher never had more than 4 sacks in a season until last season, when he had 2 sacks after Thanksgiving. Melton's 15.5 in three years is .5 less than Hatcher had his first seven years total.
3. Melton is significantly cheaper and his contract is structured so that if he doesn't recover this season, we really don't take any significant cap hit. If he does make a full recovery, he is better and younger than Hatcher, creating a vital building block instead of yet another stop-gap. Hatcher is already hurt again and will never see the end of that contract.

I know what you were saying, but Hatcher's 2013 was so far from the median it's clearly a farce and is honestly incomparable because Melton could have very well been just as good or better had he not been hurt.

If we are talking one year rentals at guaranteed production equal to a players best season, then sure, I will take Hatcher. That's just not even close to realistic though.
