If we start the season with Selvie, McClain, Melton and Crawford healthy, get Spencer back in the lineup by week 3, Lawrence back by game 4 and the rest of the young kids stay healthy, then yes, the defense can be better.

If McClain pans out at LB, then the defense can be better.

We cannot afford another loss in the secondary. Carr, Claiborne, Wilcox and Church have to be on the field.

If all of these things happen, then I think we will have a better defense. For each failure of any of the above to happen, the chances get exponentially worse.

This is still a vastly deeper group of defensive linemen than those hobos we ran out last December.

Looks very similar to me honestly. Melton = Hatcher. Selvie = Selvie. The rest of it all = what we had in here en masse.

I just want to know why Ben Bass has not exerted his dominance yet .

And Scandrick isn't out for the season just the first four non divisional games.
Wilcox will be better then Heath.
McClain should be better then Hayden.
Lawrence should be able to equal or better Ware with only one good arm and leg.
All of the same guys from last year should benefit from another year in the scheme.

I don't know a lot will depend on overall team play. Offense as well. Last years unit played poorly but did create turnovers something Marinelli defense seem to have a knack of doing because he teaches it, works on it and constantly stays on players about stripping the ball and going after the ball. As for this group I think many things are up in the air in terms of who starts. I think Melton will start outside of that I think there will be some battles for jobs alone the DL and LB. Does Durant get the job or does McClain show himself as the real deal and the reason he was selected 8th overall? As I said I don't expect top 10 I do expect better than last season, not because it can't get worse but because I think these guys are better than a bunch of street FA who were being signed off the couch in the middle of the season.
