To be fair all last season a LOT of people here and elsewhere were screaming for Romo to "just throw it up" to Dez in double coverage. It was wrong then and it is wrong now. We have a lot of weapons and they actually were being used and getting open. Tony's poor reads and decisions and the Murray fumble negated that.

The end zone pick was the biggest head-scratcher to me. For now I have to believe the Romo-was-rusty story and that his field vision and quick thinking were impaired as a result.

I do know historically that Tony bounces back after games like this and plays much smarter and controlled football. We'll find out in the next couple weeks...

Good post.

It's not just the mistakes but his inability to throw lasers in tight coverage anymore or the deep ball without receivers having to stop and wait for the ball. By Game 5 we shall see...

I'm sure we will, what I saw was a QB being indecisive and just making poor reads. As for deep ball he was holding on to long before releasing the ball which is why the WR has to stop. If he releases it sooner he can then put the ball out front. You say game 5 I expect Romo to play well this coming game.

Lest we forget, last night he was surrounded by arguably the best offense (talent wise) in the NFL, at the very least a top 3 unit. Soooo.........

But those guys won Super Bowls and made the playoffs. Their great games outweigh their poor performances.

No those guys didn't all win SBs. And that's a strawman and not the argument I was making. All QBs have some sucky games. Most athletes have some days that are very subpar for them. Injury, illness, hungover, yada all account for some. Others are just the bounces of the ball and some are just Alexander's very very bad day or combinations thereof.

I don't know if it was his worse game, but it wasn't good.I still think the last time we played the 49ers in 2011 was the best game he ever played. The one where he broke a rib, and punctured his lung, that was impressive.

Considering that he is 35 and our team is much more than any QB away from winning a Super Bowl I would have to agree with you. In fact we will never win a Super Bowl with Witten either. Not because of either Romo or Witten but because we are not close enough to worry about a Super Bowl. We have many things that need improving to even worry about doing any damage in the playoffs.

So, that was a topic in your thesis for a Masters, huh?

Statistically, it wasn't his worst game.

However, from watching the entire game it was by far the worst that he's ever looked although the stats won't speak volumes to that.

It was the first time I felt that he wasn't JUST making boneheaded mistakes, but that his talent was also diminishing before our very eyes.

I remember Troy throwing 5 picks against the Giants once. Can't remember the year, but do recall he was throwing to no name receivers.

What a crock, the line was awesome until Romo over and over, put them into one dimensional no win situations with all of his ill conceived throws. Murray averaged over 5 yds a carry and his single turnover was forced by the pressure of 3-4 guys colliding with him. He made amends and got tough yardage nearly every down thereafter. Tony on the other hand, made devastating un-forced errors series after series, serving up his top receivers in the process.

Tony singlehandedly lost a winnable game.
So Murray didn't give the niners 7 of their 28 points? I understand you're basically ignoring the first scoring play of the game, but I can't. The first job of a running back is to NOT fumble the ball.

Romo stunk. I'm not arguing that. I do think the majority of the offense had some level of hand in that stinkfest out there. Smith had a couple of penalties and a sack that was him getting his feet tangled on a stunt. Witten had his normal false start. Harris ran a couple of wrong routes and nearly fumbled two punts. Romo was the main culprit but pretty much everyone on the offense had a hand in it.

Well he does have a history of padding his stats against lesser opponents so there's always that.

Yeah, I'm 100% certain that you can't find anything factual to back this up.

All QBs tend to play better vs "lesser opponents" than they do vs better opponents. Show us that Romo's variance is greater than that of other QBs.

That's a job for the stat nerds to quabble over bucko...
